Bossier City Marshal's race getting a lot of attention

The race for Bossier City Marshal is getting a lot of internet and media attention, and that will only intensify in the next four weeks.
The Times has an article on the Opinion Page this morning, and the Northwest Louisiana Tea Party Alliance has been into it in depth, featuring interviews with the candidates and examinations of their financial disclosures.
Two Tea Party blogs also discuss the race.

Will marshal's office continue fight against online predators?

WOW! The mystery man looks completely different in that picture! Wonder why he is so absent?

Anonymous said...

Yes, makes you wonder why he does not put a new picture on those signs. If I was going to vote for him he just lost it. Be who you are, don't try and be who you were twenty or more years ago.

I'm a newbie to Bossier City and want to make an educated vote. As for Lynn Austin, he's given me nothing to vote for. I know nothing about his past, but it seems like he's hiding something if he refuses to participate in discussions.

three months, one election.three candidates to concentrate on. the national trend has become one of change. new faces , new ideas and morals. in its own way this marshals race is as important as any we will have in the future. three months to look at a candidates past, present and future performance. education to meet todays demands, age to see if he can sustain the demands that will be placed on him, and the moral fortitude to stay the course with honesty and integrity.a new course for political folks to consider. now i can make an inteligent decision i hope .with all thats been said. about misuse of city computers, lying and smear mail-outs austin gets a third place. with a questionable past not wanting to keep the predator task force or send it to the bpso.and does not appear to be mentally or educated to go forward i give richard second. with experience in law enforcement,a masters in business administration.a working knowlege of technology and an apparent spotless back-ground i give wyatt a first place.always remember past behavior is an excellant indicator of future performance.go vote its important to you and your children.

Anon at 6:15 - I get your point, but I think you could phrase it in a better manner . .

prediction - austin 55, richard 27, wyatt 18 - tv and radio will carry the day - i have seen more on My Bossier than the radio and tv for richard or wyatt - where is their campaign?

Anonymous said...

gee im sorry but we have been busy talking to the people in person---now dont be shocked they vote not the signs

Evodna Springer said...

Anon @8:10 Would you like to put some money on those predictions?

Others: Can you please tell me if Austin is running radio spots on KEEL during the Moon Griffon program?
I'm at work at that time and can't always catch his program. Thanks!

Consider this about Sam Wyatt. I know him, and he is a fine fellow. But he left public service to chase big bucks in private industry. Now he wants to come back in the lucrative position of city marshal. Apparently his dedication to public service has a high price tag.

Anonymous said...

On the other hand, Carl Richard has dedicated his entire professional life to serving the marshal's office (first in Bossier and now in Shreveport.)

As far as Lynn Austin, he appears to be a genuine snake-oil salesman.

Anonymous said...

Sam was presented with a job opportunity he couldn't refuse. Anyone in his position would have done the same. His heart has always been to serve the citizens of Bossier. Nice try.

Anonymous said...

Seems to me that it's a good thing he has experience working in the private sector.

NotSammy said...

I don't begrudge anyone leaving a government job for private sector. It's the government jobs which are breaking the budget, while the private sector pays the toll.

Good for Sammy for doing what he wants.

Anonymous said...

@6:39 - If Wyatt's opportunity to leave public service for the private sector was so great, why does he now want to be marshal?

@7:10 - If you don't begrudge Wyatt for leaving a government job for the private sector, do you now begrudge him for trying to get back on the government payroll?

NotSammy said...

Being elected to City Marshal is slightly different than being a deputy. The opportunity to run an organization is a much different experience.

I don't begrudge him running either. It's a non issue.

Of course you could turn this around and say that Lynn Austin has only worked in the public sector and now collects multiple pensions paid for by you and me. Now he's going for another.

notlowalker said...

Why would anyone fault him? His private sector job is in security, that's his background. He's a good fit. You've got the right string but the wrong yo-yo - how about the background of the other two?

Anonymous said...

Its not government jobs that are breaking the budget. Its government spending. Its government spending and government handouts that are breaking the budget. Case in point, Lo Walker is building another CNG gas station on Barksdale blvd. Down by the CTC. We dont need it and the citizens have told him we dont want it but he built them anyway.

Anonymous said...

thats exactly why we need to clean house with new faces

Anonymous said...

@notlowalker -

I am not faulting him. But in his Tea Party interview, Wyatt said Richard left Bossier to serve the citizens of Shreveport while he stayed to serve the citizens of Bossier. I think this is hypocritical since he left his service to the citizens of Bossier to go to the private sector for a big salary.

I was just pointing out comments from a few posters that didn't make sense to me. One said Wyatt left the police department for a great opportunity. According to his website, Wyatt took that job in October 2009. So a little over a year later he wants back in. It must not have been that great of an opportunity after all. Another said he didn't begrudge Wyatt for leaving the police department for the private sector. Using that logic, that poster should in turn begrudge him for trying to get back into public service.

Anonymous said...

At least Richard and Wyatt both gave the interviews unlike Austin, who seems to think that a lot of thunder from Mt. Vesuvius will send the peasants to the ballot box to vote for him.

Anonymous said...

True, Austin seems to be content to sit back and allow his political influence to bring him victory. He doesn't even use a picture that is in his likeness on his billboards. Wonder what else he has to hide, besides questionable donations and an email controversy. The biggest effort we have seen from him is a smear campaign on who Wyatt is or is not related to.

Anonymous said...

Richard said in his interview with the Tea Party that he QUIT the Bossier Marshal's Office to accept "more money and better pay" with the Shreveport Marshal's Office. Now he wants to go back? Hmmmmmm... Now why is that? Must be the bucks!!!

notlowalker said...

At the very least I think there will be a runoff. Austin hasn't done anything right, and he outright lied about the emails. People notice that stuff, I don't care who you are.

Anonymous said...

According to the Tea Party website, Austin received a campaign donation from a company out of Arizona that received a multi-million dollar sewer contract in Bossier City and another from the Teamsters. (Yes, that's what it said, the Teamsters made a campaign donation to a Bossier City marshal candidate.) And from this forum, I read where he had a controversial fundraiser at a place called Telecoin (or something like that).

Any thoughts from the masses on that?

I wish sam and carl wayne would get to campaigning instead of blogging allday

"It's a piece of cake until you get to the top. You find you can't stop playing the game the way you've always played it." Richard Nixon 1974! Austin, Austin, Austin!!

Anonymous said...

Looked through campaign finance reports...funny how Carl Richard's own relatives donated to Lynn Austin's campaign. I guess they know Richard the best!

Anonymous said...

I didnt believe the last comment about Carl Richards family donating to Lynn Austins campain so I looked and not only does he not have family supporting him(sister and dad) but his other family is supporting Lynn Austin. But so what we all have family that doesnt like us right.

Anonymous said...

That is something about his family. But the thing I am upset about is Mr. Richards out campaigning while on duty in shreveport what will he do in Bossier if he is elected.

Anonymous said...

There are a lot of claims posted with no evidence to support it. That makes your comments nothing more than a gossip column in the grocery store tabloids.

Anonymous said...

Yep, about as much credibility as grocery store tabloids that are spread out to keep the mud off the floor.

wow - the failed campaigns will do whatever they can to drag austin down - looks like they would make fine leaders

Anonymous said...

Anon @ 1:15 -
To my knowledge, "fine leaders" do not use city property, dodge public questions, or commit ethics violations in order to run a "winning" campaign. The tide is turning in Bossier and many are excited to see the Good 'Ol Boy network being exposed for exactly what it is - fraudulent! See you at the polls!

Anonymous said...

Watch and see. I'll predict the winners:

Austin
Edminston
Whittington (in run off)
Hannisee (in run off)
Adley
Smith

Anonymous said...

arent you the same folks that predicted 1) all school board members would lose; 2) going to have new city council at large; 3) predicted lo walker would have legitimate opposition; 4) chubby knight was "set up"; and on and on - one thing about complainers - they dont organize behind anyone - they dont get out and walk and knock on doors - they dont contribute (look at poor wyatt's pitiful campaign fund raising efforts) - life blood of politics is an organization with some money - this blog does serve a useful purpose - however - if gives the couch potatoes a place to spew their hate - but that is all they ever do - oh - they also promise to deliver at the polls - but then again - they do that every election - and never get it done - good luck to the ill informed - the good ole boys will carry the day again and again and again because the good ole boys are doing it right and for the right reasons -

Anonymous said...

on the predictions - only one i think has legitimate problems is adley - the rest go in as listed above

Anonymous said...

Adley voted for pay raise and against Stelly Repeal, I think. Anyone know for sure?

Anonymous said...

yeah i hear the gatti attorney is gearing up to take him out as well as another lawyer. i would think he will have several opponents i got polled a week or so ago and you could tell it was a gatti poll, although it mentioned richy jackson's name as well. the pollster asked "do you think he should be re-elected?" I would love to know the percentage that said 'no"

Jim said...

Adley voted for the pay raise that the governor vetoed after saying that he wouldn't veto it. It would have tripled their pay.
Buddy Shaw wanted total repeal of Stelly, if I'm not mistaken Adley wanted a compromise phasing it out. If I'm wrong correct me.

Anonymous said...

Could someone give me a flow chart as to who is the good old boys Im losing track here.

Jim said...

Good ole boys = that other bunch

Anonymous said...

Jim -

Would you post the Tea Party info on the Austin fund raiser at Telecoin

thanks

Anonymous said...

With all of these contested races it would seem that money will not be as plentiful and fundraising will be hard. Many of these races will cross over. I cant see how anyone would think that incumbents will rule the day. There will be a surprise or two in this cycle.

Anonymous said...

i agree adley should have opposition. he has done nothing for this area. the other representaives did what they could but he did nothing

Anonymous said...

I agree that jane smith will win shaw's seat with little or no opposition. I also think adley is doubtful for reelection. if he gets more than two opponents he has trouble.

Anonymous said...

Adley is sitting on over $250,000. Anyone that takes him on can match the money and unfortunately it is all about the money.

Anonymous said...

adley will re-elected easily. He's been in there for decades--

Anonymous said...

How in the world OR why in the world would a senator needs over 260,000.00 in a campaign account that a job that pays 20,000 per year? That reeks of sumthin. Whose been giving money to Adley?

Anonymous said...

I am giving money to Adley - cause he is gonna win and is gonna clean up Bossier Parish -

Good luck with trying to beat him

Anonymous said...

Dear Mr. Austin -

Please continue to run your television commercials. Sam and Carl need all the help they can get

If only Jerry was in your commercial

Too of a kind - LOL LOL LOL

Anon at 9:06 3/10

Adley has been in office since 1977 (34 years) --- please tell us how he has cleaned up bossier. Our state is broke, he's been in Baton Rouge for decades. maybe you want us to beleive he is going to clean up bossier if we just elect him again?

Anonymous said...

adley has been in office too long. if he, or anyone, can tell me what he has done that has made this community a better place to live i would sure like to hear it

Anonymous said...

He just used 16 million plus in funds from the state to build a communitity college in Webster Parish-- the same webster parish that already has too many classrooms and its shutting in schools. Could have just bought/rented a buliding from the WPSB.
But he got his name in the paper!!

Anonymous said...

ms. dorge did more to get the trade school than adley did. she has worked on this for years
