Candidate Forum: Martha Peace Reyenga for Police Jury District 3

Martha Peace REYENGA
District 3
Police Juror
Bossier Parish
“Hometown Girl wishes to serve her community as District 3 – Police Juror”
After much thought, I have decided to become a candidate for Bossier Parish Police Juror – District 3. I am dedicated to bringing change to this government body.
Raised in the country (Benton) and educated in Bossier Parish schools, my mother was the late Rona Clements Peace, lifelong resident of Benton. My husband was the late Ralph Windell Reyenga of Benton. I have three daughters who attended Benton schools (Mary Moore Wilks, Rona Moore Durbin, and Winde Reyenga Chambers) and a stepdaughter and stepson (Leslie Reyenga Matthews and Matt Reyenga). My grandchildren currently attend Bossier Parish Community College, Benton, and Legacy schools.
I was employed with the St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company prior to my employment with the United States Postal Service. My career with the USPS consisted of 31+ years, rising through the ranks to retire as Postmaster, Shreveport, in June 2010. I was responsible for over 350 employees--managing a 30+ million dollar operating budget. I graduated the Advanced Leadership Management Program, Potomac, Maryland.
My Postal career revolved around being a servant to the public. I want to continue that tradition by serving the residents of Bossier Parish as Police Juror. You deserve a determined individual, hard-worker, and a servant with strong values!
You will find that my strongest attributes include: an extensive leadership background, managing within budget constraints, maintaining a proper work ethics environment, and being honest.
I will support and work for the residents of District 3--bringing a much needed change to our government body!

  1. Got my vote! We need new blood on the PJ with new energy. I like her public servant attitute which will be a pleasant change from what we have now. I wish her the best and I know she will represent District 3 well.

  4. Just curious about something. Why does Martha think it is so important that her kids went to a Benton school? And if it is important, then consider this...it is not 100% true. Yes they all attended but Winde was pulled out at the end of her 8th grade year and was sent to Plain Dealing Academy, along with several other children from Benton, for their high school years. This is not hearsay but factual. Winde was in the graduating class of '96 at PDA. IMO it shouldn't matter, but she seemed to make a point in saying this in her candidate profile. Just saying.

  5. Yeah, let's manage every element of government just like the post office.

  6. Anonymous@ 9;31pm, the woman should certainly know where her daughter went to school, and she says in no uncertain terms that she went to the school in Benton. Now one of you is a bald-faced liar, and it seems to me that the mother ought to know where the daughter went to school.

Mrs. Reyenga stated in her post that her children "attended" Benton schools. I don't see anything stating that her children graduated from Benton High School so I'm confused as to what exactly your post is infering. It appears that you're intending to call Mrs. Reyenga a liar but I'm not connecting the dots on how exactly you reached that conclusion if indeed that was your intent. You yourself stated that "Yes they all attended" so I'm not sure what exactly the reasoning for you post is

  8. Really? I honestly do not care where Winde, Missy or Prissy went to school...My main concern is how well Martha would represent district 3!!!

  9. Well, I am concerned about it if the woman is a bald-faced liar who deceitfully tells half-truths about where her children went to school. But I doubt that it is true that her child went to PDA, because a grown woman who intends to be taken seriously as a candidate for police jury simply would not do such a foolish thing as trying to be a caricature of a deceitful politician by blantantly telling a half-truth about where her daughter went to school. The teenaged girl herself might do that, but the mother simply would have better sense even if she did not have better morals.

  10. Yup! Matters to me, too. NOT!

  11. I wasn't saying it matters. AND from what I know about both Martha and Lucy they are both good people. But here is the point here. And no I am not a liar, I know for a fact that Winde Reynega Chambers graduated from PDA class of 96. And no I am not implying Martha lied. It isn't a lie because they did go to Benton. But my thinking on it is that she wants people to know she supports the town and wants people to know she always has. But either way if people are going to scream about Lucy posting in all caps then this should be considered in Martha's post.

  12. You guys are really getting petty with the all caps and where the children went to school. I'm concerned with the issues and really would like to see some new life in the district. wanda Bennett has been a figure head way to long and I think it is time we elect someone new and focus on what these two candidates plan to do if elected. I have two concerns with the two running for this position. One, Reyenga is a registered Democrat and I have never voted across party lines but am seriously considering such in this race. Cooper has a history of fighting with the Jury on personal interests and seems to be only in this race to retaliate on an issue she fought for and lost against years ago. Cooper also sold one of her local businesses to a foreigner wwho has no vested interest in the community. This is America and people can sell a business to whomever they choose but one has to question their values, in the community, when one sells a lucrative convenience store to someone who has no local ties, no intent to better the community, and possibly send American dollars overseas. I am truly opened minded but I must consider ones motives when they sell a business to a person that POSSIBLY, and I use the word POSSIBLY sincerely, to someone that could have ties to a terrorist organization. Then have the nerve to question our own governments interest in our military base. My post is not to offend, but to expose the facts as I know them. Please respect my comments as they are merely nothing more than objective comments. I welcome anyone to question myself or anyone else in this blog with a sense of respect and honesty.

  13. I think we need to find out if Martha Reyenga prefers her toilet paper to be placed so where it rolls over the top or be pulled from the bottom. It matters to me!
Geez, how ridiculous do some people have to get? When the damned Parish is falling apart because of crooks stealing from the tax payers, we have people worried about there a candidate's daughter went to school. GET A LIFE!

  14. meant to say, "...where..."

  15. It was the candidate herself who brought up the matter of where her children went to school. She says that they went to school at Benton, and if for some reason it is shown that the candidate was deceptive and was telling a half-truth in this statement, that demonstrates that she is a liar and should not be elected to a government office. Now if she deceitfully claims to install toilet paper with the sheet coming over rather than under, or vice-versa, then that would very definately become an issue. I don't care which way she puts the roll in the holder, but I do very much care if she lies about it. Don't we have enough politicians that are bald-faced liars already?

  16. Anon @ 8:20, It seems you're so up tight enough over the issue where Martha's daughter attended school that you could crack pecans with your buttocks. How much would you charge to crack a bushel?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous @ 9:51pm, you can just get your filthy mind off of my buttocks.
The only reason I want to know where the woman's children went to school is to know before the election whether she tells the truth or whether she is a liar.

    ReplyDelete
  18. My toilet paper holder is vertical, so how it comes off the roll isn't an issue either.

  19. Here is an idea for those of us who do care about if the candidate is telling the truth, and the whole truth. Go to google, and search for Winde Reyenga Chambers. See all the reunion websites such as myreunion.com, myclassmates.com, etc pull up her and associate her with the '96 PDA class just as the previous poster said. I agree with the person who said it bothers her about it being a half-truth. If you are going to tell only part of the truth on one subject you certainly would on something else. OH but wait, I guess that is the whole point of being a politician in the first place.

  20. Your high school vendetta with Ms Reyenga's daughter does not interest us in the least bit. What concerns the voters is Ms Reyenga's politcal platform. I'm sorry you weren't part of the in-crowd. I wasn't either, but I got over it. A little self esteem goes a long way. Try it.

  21. I think the point was her children "attended" not necessarily "graduated" Benton schools.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'll answer for the uptight one, "No it's not! No it's not! No it's not!"

    ReplyDelete
  23. The point is whether the woman is honest or whether she is a liar. We already know how the liars parse out their lies and half-truths when someone brings it up. As a famous former president said "It all depends on what your definition of 'is' is". Maybe you have to be a liar to be a politician. Maybe most people enjoyed being deceived.

  24. Bottom line is we need new blood on the BPPJ. Ms. Reyenga seems to me to be the best hope we have for decent representation on the BPPJ for District 3.

  25. Anon @ 9:32,
Ok, you said your piece. You're like a broken record player saying the same thing over and over. Haven't you noticed that nobody has sided with you on this issue. Give it a rest.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon @ 5:32,
There have been at least 2 other posters who have made comments similar to mine, including the one who first stated that the statement about children attending schools in Benton was less than fully truthful.
Apparently you are someone who likes for the politicians to lie, cheat, and deceive. That is your priviledge, every citizen gets one vote. But by what authority do you tell those with whom you disagree to "give it a rest"? Have you never heard of the First Amendment?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ome other person agreeing with you is not a political movement. You and your fellow protestor have move the poltical landscape with this non-issue. Yes, you do have the protection on the First Amendment to spew your tripe. I have the same right to be bored with it and rebut it, which I am. Good grief, if you don't like the woman and think she'll be a bad choice go BPPJ, give us something else other than where her daughter went to school.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Meant to day have not moved the political landscape.

  29. Martha Reyenga stands up for what she believes in! I've known her for 35 years. She is hard working, honest and won't be swayed against her beliefs. She will be a breath of fresh air on the Police Jury! GO MARTH!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, I told you by what authority I have made my political comments, The First Amendment, but you have not told me by what authority you are trying to squelch me. Are you trying to rebut my comment and claim that the woman was honest and straightforward in saying that her children went to school in Benton? Your last comment says that it is a rebuttal, but that is not what you are saying. You are just saying "shut up" like a spoiled child.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Like I said before, you're up tight. How about cracking a couple of bushels of pecans or walnuts? It might help you to relax.

  32. I lived in Benton from 1967 to 1984and I am proud to say that Martha Reyenga was a good friend. Martha would make a great Police Juror and would represent the people of Benton well. I don't live in Benton anymore, but if I did, I would definitely be out campaigning for her. She is honest and she has great character!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, I have now had time to read all of the posts and I am somewhat disturbed by all that is being said regarding where Martha's children went to school. Also, I am disturbed by everyone posting their comments under "Anonymous". I am proud to say that I am a friend of Martha's and I am proud to say that I feel she would be an excellent Police Juror. By the way, I may not live in Benton right now but I plan on being back within the next couple of years and I look forward to seeing Martha and helping her in any way that I can in her new position!!!!!

  34. Nancy, the reason some people post anonymously is that's the only way they can voice their opinions. Some people, because of conditions of employment are forbidden by law to make public statements, so they do it anonymously. These people sacrifice their freedoms to protect yours. Please don't begrudge us what is vertually our only avenue to express our thoughts and beliefs.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 8:37pm, what do pecans or walnuts have to do with the election of a police juror? Speaking as a voter who is trying to decide which candidate is best, your comment is distintly irrelevant and unhelpful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The "crack" about pecans and walnuts is probably more informative than, "Her daughter didn't go to school in Benton. I have my right to say it. Waaaa!"

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have personally work with Ms. Reyenga. You dont get selected to the positions that this lady held by being as you say half truthful. I wish her the best and it will only be the PJ's loss if she is not elected.
