Bob Barr announces for President

Don't want to vote for John McCain or Barack Obama? Former congressman Bob Barr of Georgia has announced his candidacy for president as a Libertarian.
Make your vote count without favoring the evil political establishment.

  1. Um, no thanks, Jim. My memories of Barr on the House Judiciary Committee during Clinton's impeachment hearings simply cannot be blotted out. I understand that he's had a conversion of sorts, but no, I don't think so.

  2. I wish I had a big smiley face to put here for you Mimi.
I do think that Bob Barr will be a great alternative for Republicans who are disaffected with McCain. I doubt that he'll get many Democratic votes, unless by some miracle Hillary pulls off the nomination. In that case, there will not be another anti-war candidate running and Barr may actually pull some support.
Yes, I know Hillary has 'turned' against the war, but where was she when we needed her?
Obama, although he was just in the Illinois Senate at the time, did go on record against invading Iraq.
I was a lifelong Democrat until last year. I will only vote independent now, and if that keeps me from voting in primaries, so be it. The country elected a Democratic House and Senate in '06 to deal with the war. They have done NOTHING but enable George Bush.
I will qualify my independence by adding that I am a 'yellow dog' independent. I would vote for a yellow dog before I would vote for a Republican.
    How's that for a rant?!

  3. Jim, that was an excellent rant. I hope that Barr takes a few votes away from McCain and none from Obama.

FWIW, I believe that a yellow dog independent of your kind is a far better thing than a blue dog Democrat. I'm furious at my blue dog senator and representative for voting for torture. I have given them campaign money in the past, but I simply could not do it after those votes. I know Charlie Melancon personally, and I was greatly disappointed in him. I will vote for them, but they won't get my money.
