The Old River Road is reporting that out of the blue Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden made a strange admission in a bond hearing this week."When we did the St. Paddy's parade, the Chief Engineer here said, "Mayor, don't run those floats across the Perkins Overpass." And I bowed to the pressure of the people who said, "man you have to run this thing or else a lot of people are going to be upset".... But I had to overrule my Chief Engineer, but I was praying to God every second that I wasn't a big dummy. Because that bridge was in some of the worst shape of any bridge in this whole parish."
Repairs on the structure began last month.
