Great Lakes Boot Camp Graduation April 16, 2010

This is one of those times when a personal post is mandatory. These are the pictures from boot camp graduation at Great Lakes Naval Station on Friday.
My 19 year old grandson Tyler was among the graduates. My daughter, son-in-law and Tyler's girlfriend Courtney went up there for the big event.
(You can probably catch more about this ceremony at Mean Ol' Meany - Paul's son was there too!)
I think Tyler was trying to look tough in the picture with his parents, so I put one of him and little brother Cody so you can see what he really looks like. Needless to say, I'm a proud grandpa.

  2. Jim,

Being retired Army (dog face), and I can't help myself, so please indulge me. "SQUID!"

    Ok, I feel better.

Now the real message. Congratulations to Tyler. I also want to welcome him to the brotherhood, and sisterhood, of the military. I pray the best for him.

  4. Jim, Fan-freakin'-tastic! I know that you are very proud of your squidly grandson!

I know that I am! As one who never served in the military, I have great admiration for those that do/did.

Please give Tyler our love and thanks!

btw: The Mrs. was looking at the photos. She said, "Wow...he looks just like his Momma!"

Congrats to your Tyler on a job well done! It's gratifying to know that smart young folks (who could do pretty well anything they want to) continue to enlist in our armed forces.

I know Grandpa must be bursting with pride for the boy. I know that feeling (not the Grandpa thing, though...I'm not REAL OLD like you yet).

  5. Andy, he does look like his mom. I think she was trying to look tough in the picture too.
As for the grandfather thing, you'll be tripping over grandkids in a few years . .

  6. Dunno Jim...about the grandkids thing...

Long stories, but it's not really likely, even though many/most of my schoolmates already have them...or have them on the way.

Yep! I'm old enough. Just raised boys that don't seem to be nearly as eager to be a Poppa as I was.

    I probably screwed 'em up.

    Or, maybe set 'em straight...

It'll probably happen one of these days. But I'm not pushing any of 'em.

  7. Congratulations to Tyler. It is a big thing to graduate and enter the military. I was so glad to graduate basic training. Jim I know you are proud of Tyler and you should be. Go Tyler.

  8. I am actually IN pictures one and two. In the second blue square from the bottom, there is a rather large guy in a blue golf shirt. I am the guy to his right wearing the brown shirt. This was a great ceremony and I have many photos and movies, shoot me an e-mail if you want some.
