20 Year Old Juvenile? What?

Local authorities are on the lookout for a fugitive who fled last week after a supervised visit with his family.

Deangelo Lovett, 20, escaped from officials with the Office of Juvenile Justice on Sept. 10, while visiting with family at Pierre Bossier Mall in Bossier City.
Atkins is a black male, who stands about six feet tall, weighing about 170 pounds.

At Pierre Bossier mall, are you kidding me? If he is a prisoner, what was he doing at Pierre Bossier Mall?  Is that really the place for a convict to have a supervised visit with family?
A six foot tall, 170 pound, 20 year old - juvenile?  We try 15 year old kids for murder, and this 20 year old is in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Justice?
What am I missing here?

  1. He was probably convicted as a juvenile and is serving his time. If I am not mistaken, in court terms, a juvenile life sentence ends at the age of 21. It is not uncommon for someone over the age of 18 to still be under supervision. The problem is obviously the officer that was assigned to watch the offender, That is the real problem. I have been in Law Enforcement for sometime and have yet to meet a competent juvenile probation officer.

  2. He was obviously convicted of a lesser crime that murder. He is probably still on probation from another offense as a juvenile. I would probably research a little more before putting up a post, just a suggestion, makes folks think that law enforcement consider him a juvenile.

  3. Law enforcement does still consider him a juvenile. He can be held as a juvenile until he is 21 if he is convicted while a juvenile. Don't know what he was convicted for, but was pretty serious if he is still serving his sentence.
If he was on probation, he would not have been on a 'supervised visit' with his family. Probably was in a halfway house or something.

He was a "prisoner" on a home visit. He was not escorted by a probation officer. You may have been in law enforcement for many years, but obviously have no understanding of every law enforcement agency. If he was in secure or non secure custody within that department,he was being escorted by either a prison guard or a group home employee. Probation officers don't supervise prisoners. They supervise probationers or parolees. Once they are placed in custody, the probation officer's role ends unless they are released on parole. You might want to educate yourself before you make yourself look like a fool. Just a thought.

  7. Adult, juvenile, supervised, unsupervised, who friggin' cares? The real problem here is a criminal was being coddled instead of being behind bars where he belonged, but now he's on the loose. This liberal feel good crap has gotten innocent people killed because of stupid crap like this. The real shame here is that as a society we allow stupid crap like this to take place.

  8. G.R., you're exactly right. He is a prisoner and shouldn't have been out under any circumstances.

  10. The more I think about this the angrier I get. The same liberal idiots who pushes for policices to let criminals out of their cells to visit their families amongst society are the same idiots who are pissed off because I have guns LOCKED UP in my safe.

  11. I hear that he was captured today in Shreveport. My source says that K-9 Mico took another bite out of crime in the process . . .
