Buttermilk Pie

No, it doesn't taste like buttermilk, any more than buttermilk biscuits do.  Of course, that wouldn't bother me, I love a glass of cold buttermilk with some warm cornbread.
No, Mrs. Andy made this for me.  It is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life.  If you have never had one, find a recipe and try it out!
Look at that, had my name on it!

  1. I love buttermilk pie! I'm a bit jealous now. And wondering how best to get in Mrs. Andy's good graces :-)

  2. Donna, I've been living with her for 31 years, and she's been my steady date for 34 years.

And, I still ain't figured out exactly how to get there. But once I do, I'll let you know.

  3. Have y'all ever added coconut to the recipe in making buttermilk pie? I love buttermilk pie, but the coconut makes it even better.

  4. Anon, I'm gonna run that one by The Mrs. BTW, she was VERY disappointed with the crust. She usually just uses the frozen ones, and hadn't made her oil pastry crust in years.

But, she tried it, and said, "I've lost my touch!" But, ours is gonna get eaten up anyhow...in fact, I'm already half way there.

  5. I think the crust is great, you can't replace that homemade taste.
I was actually impressed by the fact that she made the crust!

  6. Yeah, Jimbo...you're a nice guy and all...but she's right.

The crust is tough. At least I think it is...in fact, I KNOW it is.

    Because she says so.

Hey Dude! Happy Thanksgiving to you, and yours...and all your good readers, too.

  7. Yeah Jim, go ahead, tell us how great the pie is, when we can't even have a piece.

Sort of reminds me of the scene in the movie High Anxiety, where Cloris Leachman is eating the fruit cup in front of Harvey Korman. SLURRRRRP!

  8. G.R, if you talk real pitiful to Mrs. Andy, whine some, you'd probably get some buttermilk pie.
Short of that, park in front of Andy's house for an hour or two at the time and they'll get the hint.

  9. What is your age and marital status, GR?
I am a 56 year old widow, and I know how to bake pies, cakes, and cookies.

  10. Gwen, I am flattered. I'm in my early 50's, and I'm married to the love of my life.

Jim, I'll just have to live without some pie right now. Ever since I got out of the Army (even though I still exercise just not as intense), I've noticed the Levi's and other companies are putting shrinkable waist bands on their pants.
