I am instituting comment moderation on the blog, this means that I will have to read and approve any comments that are left before they go up.
I am doing this because a lot of unnecessary comments, some bordering on slander, some silly and some just outrageous, have been left lately.
You will still be able to fully express your view, support your candidates, and discuss your agreement/disagreement with any candidate or their platform. What you won't be able to do is make accusatory remarks that can't be substantiated.
Let's see if it improves the level of our discussions.
If you are indeed worried about comments bordering on slander, you should have started reviewing comments quite some time ago!
ReplyDeleteI have tried to keep it as open as possible for the last 3 years. It reached a point that it was time to do something.
ReplyDeleteJim, I think that is the only honable thing to do! My impression of MY BOSSIER was just people that Love Bossier talking about what is going on and presenting bits of good old fashioned thoughts or comments on the subject at hand! Not to be a He said She said risque choice of words or statements! I appreciate your stance as I am sure others share the same thought! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI am sure Carl's Aunt loves that you are NOW moderating comments that question her nephews background
ReplyDeleteGood move Jim. If someone is that unhappy, why don't they run for office. I like this blog and hope it will be for informed spirited dialog.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 7:16 I would like to chime in if I may! To dignify
ReplyDeleteyour ridiculous accusative remarks would be pointless! you are on a
disturbing crash course of Character assasination,yours-
Thank you 7:52 a true Patriot!!
ReplyDeleteI made a comment that I hope you don't only post things you agree with. Since it wasn't posted you kind of answered my question without saying anything.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember it at all. I'm having an issue getting email alerts on comments, think I'm going to have to disable that, isn' working too well. Be patient, I'm new at this moderation stuff. And to answer your question, if you have read my blog for any period of time you know I wouldn't do that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim! No candidate should be subject to irresponsible -slanderous comments, and false allegations, regardless of who they are, what race they are in, who their friends are, or who they are related to! And they wonder why it is hard to get good people to run for office! Why would anyone want to run for public office?
ReplyDeletePeople run for office I suppose for one of two reasons. Fame or they want to make a positive change.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Jimbo...
ReplyDeleteIf you want to go through the trouble of comment moderation, it's WAY COOL with me.
But, I personally hate it. I'm too lazy to look at comments, and decide what to allow or not. Of course, I don't post anything controversial any longer, and only have 12 hits per day. So, that makes it easy.
I do understand WHY you're giving this a try, though. With all of the ANONs that pass through here, there is not much accountability, and I can get inside your head on it.
There's lots of room in there to roam.
Just sayin'...
Good luck Jim. I think it is the right thing to do. Our blogs are like our little babies and we had an idea of what we wanted it to look like when we bagan them and sometimes we have to exercise a little tough love to keep them on the right track.
ReplyDeleteNot to change the Subject, but what is the status of the Sheriff race? Is there any new info on the persons actually vying for the Office?
ReplyDeleteWho do you think the Good old boys want in the Sheriff Dept.? I see the office backed Austin, but I don't think they have always agreed on the candidates or that it was agreed on by all???Split support was shown in the past!!!
ReplyDeleteBetween Larry Dean and McConnell Larry Dean by 90 percent. McConnell has no chance and by no means the funds to support the race.
ReplyDeleteHey Jim - I completely understand; however, it's probably going to get a little hectic for you. Here are a couple of things you might consider:
ReplyDelete(1) Allow all comments but reserve the right to edit/delete them if you deem them out of line.
(2) Add a couple of other "trusted moderators" as editors to the blog simply to help with the comments.
Note to all the anons: Remember, this is a "private" blog - meaning Jim can do as he pleases with it. If you don't like it, well then start your own. That's one of the beauties of the 'net.

PS: Yeah - I'm getting back into blogging again.
Well, I'm glad to see Rex back on the grid. Just sayin'...
ReplyDeleteSo, this is comment #18 on a post about comment moderation being undertaken by the most influential globber in Bossier Parish.
Now, that is CHOICE! The irony of it all...
Jimbo has to moderate 18 comments about whether he should moderate condiments!
Seriously here...Jim, I've seen dozens of globbers go with comment moderation, and I really have never understood why. They stick with it for a week or two, and then just go back to standard comments. When the odd slanderous comment slips through it is easy enough to just put it in that virtual trash can, and disclaim it as pure dog dookie.
And, just to finish off this sterling (moderated) comment, it's pretty cool that something entirely unrelated to the BP Sheriff's Office/Race can end up on a post about comment moderation on MYB.
Is this a great country, or what?
Andy, I'm glad to see Rex picking up the pace too. During normal times I'm sure I won't use comment moderation. I do think some of the stuff in the marshal's race was getting out of hand so I decided to try it, and the marshal's race is a Sunday School picnic compared to the sheriff's race that is coming up.
ReplyDeleteWho are the "Good Ole Boys?" If a majority of voters elect a person with that label, does that mean that maybe they are not the "odd" group? - maybe the blogger is the odd one.
ReplyDeleteI hope no one bites my head off, But! I do not know the rules or guidelines for politics, but just a question. I use the parkway everyday and I have noticed that Austin has a sign just behind the fence in the yard of the city of Bossier lot that houses trucks and equiptment for the City, I really have two questions? Does this property belong to the city? and if so can a political sign be on this property?? Just curious! hope it doesn't bring out that mean guy! an innocent question!!nothing more-
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteIf you want self-moderation, do away with ANON. Let's see who wants to be big boys and girls.
I could do what the Times and the TV stations do - require a name. Then you end up with anons named "Bo Bossier" and "Crazycat". Might as well just be anonymous.
ReplyDeleteWhile we are on the subject, people love to blame the blogs, but the mainstream media is much worse. There are remarks on The Times and the TV stations websites that never would be allowed on My Bossier.
ReplyDeleteI read recently that for the first time a majority of people go to online sites for their news. People just don't sit and wait for the 10 o'clock news any more, they want it instantly.
Common Jim,
ReplyDeleteLet's have fun on "post sunshine week. Let's see who wants to show how much they really know. We can at least recognize the cowards or the truly informed. I'll play! It will be fun!
Anon March 20 @ 10:20, I saw it too and was wondering WTH!
ReplyDeleteAnother mistake I suppose.
Is Marty Carlson Austins' Campaign Manager?? She is the Secretary for Who? and What Dept? So much for fair and balanced opinions!! She should be ashamed making false statements and using her personal opinion to advance her candidate. Almost two decades of training for this direct office that has the same basic tasks, the same legal obligations as all City Marshals Offices. To actually twist the words of a statement and present her misinterpreted version into, Oh! let me see, Richard has trained and worked deep into all aspects of the system for over 18 years and has deep understanding and expert knowledge of every function of the City Marshal Office yet her article implied Richard said; he doesn't know the City Marshal Office in Bossier-GIVE ME A BREAK!
ReplyDeleteEverybody loves the Forum, Most Always Fair and Balanced, even Wyatt and Richards'constiuent love and read the Forum and being the great Americans they are, will still Love the Forum! Marty has a right to her Opinion, and we the readers have the right to disagree and challenge the authenticity and motive!Live in Benton but Love Bossier, Respect Lou's opinion and the Forum!!!
The only articles I read that Marty did were balanced, they pointed out what she thought were the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate.
ReplyDeleteIf you are referring to her remarks about the internet task force, Richard said that he will keep it going, so that wasn't a slam at him.
If you are referring to a different article, please comment again and put in a link.
Go pour a glass of wine, close your eyes for a few minutes, and then go back and read the article again.
Jim, Article in reference to was in the issue;
ReplyDeleteThe Forum/March 23, 2011
OPINION; Bossier City Marshal
A Look at the Candidates
By: Marty Carlson
Thanks, but I drink Beer!!and it still reads the same but I only had one Beer!!
to get a different prespective would take a case?? ha-ha
Thanks Anyway!
I went back and read it again. You have to consider that Austin is older and has more experience to talk about. That's both a plus and a minus. I thought she was fair to the other two, however.
ReplyDeleteDrink another beer and think about it. . . . .
Jim, My intention was not to upset you, I really thought you had not read the opinion! If you truly do not see that one candidate was favored in the article then I do offer an apology to you and Mrs. Carlson especially since you are an expert on comments and opinions, I am just a reader and must be mistaken, Sorry! I do respect your view and how you stand up to the radical comments it must be my imagination since no one else has commented on the article but me, you won't hear from me again! Thanks for your time, and what is your obsession with the alcohol and it clearing up my view of the content of the opinion???
ReplyDeleteI'm no more an expert than you are. Lighten up and have a good time!
ReplyDeleteWho does Marty Carlson work for?? I thought she was just a reporter or columnist!!
ReplyDeleteWhat does that have to do with anything? Have you discovered something so dark and secret that it calls for multiple punctuation??!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, it's a big secret, don't tell, but some people have day jobs too.
Jim, Been gone most of the day, but did pick up a Forum to see if it appeared different to me than viewing it on line, well after reading the Opinion again I am going to stand with my comment of March 22 5:20. I do aplogize for my Apology, but do thank you for your interesting comments and opinion. I will delete MY BOSSIER from my favorites so you can get back to business and referee the site! It's been Real! Thanks
ReplyDeleteJim, did you not get my comment about 1:00?? I did not say anything that could not have been posted immediately! Just in case there was a computer glitch, I will repeat my comment, good thing I waited to remove the site from my favorites! My comment said; I did pick up a Forum at the news stand and thought it may read different in actual print? But it did not, so I want to apologize for my Apology and stand with my March 22, 5:20 pm comment. Please disregard the March 22, 8:34 comment in it's entirety. Thank you for your Time!
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't get the comment. I never accepted your initial apology so you don't have to apologize for tendering it. You are as of right now unforgiven and apparently, unrepentant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking in.
The article I read by Marty Carlson sounded fair and didn't seem to lean in favor of any particular candidate. I enjoy her articles. She always does her homework before writing.
ReplyDeleteWe all know which side our bread is buttered, and who can fault a person for that? Right Marty?
