Times endorses Richard for City Marshal Post

The Times this morning endorsed Carl Richard for Bossier City Marshal.
"Richard is most focused on the city marshal's primary mission. And with a combined 19 years as a deputy city marshal — five in Bossier City followed by 14 in Shreveport, he would require little on-the-job training."
They go on to say "He also wants to Bossier City's and Shreveport's personnel commissioned so they occasionally can team up on a warrants roundup or the like."
Read the entire endorsement here.

  2. That is where I get all my "how to vote" news for Bossier City...from the Shreveport Times. LOL! If the Times endorses someone, be sure to vote for the other candidate.

  3. Just like to thank the Shreveport Times for helping me here in Bossier haha

  4. 2:02 Give it up, how sad!!

  5. That's so sad its funny. Shreveport telling Bossier how to vote. They want us to support a candidate with a arrest record, under bankruptcy protection because he can't handle money, arrested and booked into ccc for forgery, had run ins with Shreveport Police Department over one of his business ventures.

  6. I thought this was Bossier City's election not Shreveport. Did we have a say so in the shreveport mayor's election? This is Bossier City and my vote goes to Sammy Wyatt. Take some time and read who the real man for the job is. Bossier needs a change. VOTE!!!!

  7. I didn't read the entire endorsement, nor do I really know anything about Mr. Richard. But, if The Times endorsed him, I will certainly vote for one of the other candidates.

I can't remember being in agreement with their editorial staff on ANYTHING pertaining to local (or national) elections in a coon's age.

He might be a great guy, but with me a Times' endorsement is the kiss of death.

  8. Wow! You guys are a bunch of divisive idiots! The Shreveport Times is the largest written publication in this area and does not reflect just Shreveport, but the entire area. If Barksdale had that same attitude where would this area be? What if students refused to be educated at BPCC because of Bossier? This area will never improve as long as this arcaic behavior exists! Attack the man because of his politics. Don't make it personal. Further, don't use the S'port Times to justify your position when you know that you would not vote for this man in the first place. Last, grow up!

  9. Thank You 8:44 They have just lost it! That was the Best written no good of no substance endorsement I've ever had the pleasure to read. Nice!

  10. hahahahahahahahaha the times

  11. Most of the people the Shreveport Times endorses lose! So will Richard!

  12. I quit subscribing to the times due to the fact that they fail to do their homework.

  13. Let the times endorse who they want. There is not but one candidate in this race that has served Bossier and its citizens his entire working career. There is not but one candidate that has worked in joint projects with the marshal's office. One candidate that has ever been "the boss" and knows how to get the most of his employees. One candidate that created the SRO program still used in our schools today. One that has ever written teenage curfew laws still used today. One that has started the truancy program. One candidate that is going to reduce his salary by 40 percent. One that is backed by the Bossier City Marshal's office and its deputies, and know one knows the office better than those deputies. That one candidate is Lynn Austin. Lynn has more experience in areas of law and administration than the others put together.

  14. I have to agree, the times endorsment is the kiss of death. This is a two man race now. Lynn or Sam, either way we get a good Marshall.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Who would want that endorsement? It cost you votes.

  16. Let’s see! There is only one candidate who was involved in police layoffs in 1988! There is only one candidate who was involved in police layoffs in 2009! There is only one candidate who was partly responsible for losing 6 million dollars of city funds, then suddenly finding it after 66 city employees were laid off. No city employees have forgot about this! Fire, Police, or any other city employee! There is only one candidate who as CAO, failed to review the budget, and realize an $800,000 shortfall in the cities portion of police retirement. There is only one candidate who has two public retirements, and never in those positions, or as CAO did he take a reduction in pay to help prevent layoffs! He has made $110,000 a year for the past five years as the CAO and never took a pay reduction! And shame on Mr. Austin for forcing the deputies to participate in the commercial! No candidate should place them in that position! See you at the polls!

Since the Shreveport Journal (for those of you who remember) stopped publishing The Times is the ONLY large written publication in this area. To listen to only one media opinion is not in anyone's best interest.

    Excellent article by Jeff Sadow.

  20. Anon 9:21 The times did a decent job of picking winners in last fall's school board elections.

  21. Anon at 10:52 I would ask how many Marshalls were layed off the last time, do you know?

  22. you people just kill me. you act like a bunch of spoiled brats. i have been a life long resident of b.c. and if it were not for shreveport and bafb, this town would shrivel up and blow away. we depend on sport because most of us work their, shop their and eat their. you act like the british towards scotland... if you aint brit, you aint sh**! Grow the hell up and use some common sense.

  23. andy, i hope you are not being serious, i mean even a broke clock is right twice a day.

if you consider what is involved in actually running the marshall's office, one could pull just about anyone off the street with a business background and effectively run this office. the idea that any of these candidates are much better than the other is far-reaching. i mean the last marshall was a hair dresser in his previous occupation, and ended his position by a self-induced drunk driving accident, and the previous bossier city chief of police was a pest control salesman with a GED from parkway, so spare me the major importance of what they take credit for in their most recent experience.

maybe it ought to be important that we elect folks that have some integrity in office, and i think Austin has shown his true colors in this department already.

  24. Sorry, he seems / looks lazy, can't vote for him!

I read the article by Jeff Sadow mentioned in the post above yours and it is very enlightening. Maybe if you read it instead of pretending you know what everyone at LSUS thinks of him maybe you will learn something...maybe.

  27. Every attack on this thread against anyone but Lynn Austin is one of character assassination and degradation. None of the arguments have substance or factual basis.

We should lump all the commenters by who they support, Lynn, Sammy, or Carl, the ones with the most vitriol seem to support Austin. Coincidence?

  28. I know the "creator and manager" of this blog is a good friend of Sammy Wyatt and that Sammy Wyatt has been a contriuting editor of this blog. Your reporting has been obviously slanted and I am not sure if it is even ethical for you to be monitoring this blog, but allowing profanity and implied profanity does not have a place on this blog. I would think that even with the comment being anti-Lynn, you would not allow that comment to come out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1. " know the "creator and manager" of this blog is a good friend of Sammy Wyatt and that Sammy Wyatt has been a contriuting editor of this blog."
I met Sam Wyatt a total of one (1) time. I suppose that constitutes 'good friend'. Last September (before Johnny Wyatt died) I asked Sam to contribute 2 articles, one on the MPERS board on which he served and one on civil service. That is the extent of his contributions.
    2. "Your reporting has been obviously slanted and I am not sure if it is even ethical for you to be monitoring this blog."
I don't 'report', I blog. A blog is made up of my opinions and anything else I want to talk about. I don't have to be 'slanted' - I could be outright partisan if I so desired. As to monitoring the blog, it's my blog so I will monitor it when needed.
    3. "allowing profanity and implied profanity does not have a place on this blog"
I suppose you are referring to S*** from a commenter at 9:30. Had he said shit I probably would have still allowed it. This isn't a children's blog, it's for adults.
    Thanks for your opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jim, excuse me. I will correct myself. Your "blog" is obviously partisan. I realize that this blog is for adults, but not adults appreciate the use of profanity. It really shows stupidity in not having a large enough vocabulary to choose other words. I see that must include you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You may be a tad oversensitve if s*** bothers you.
Please, give me some examples of my partisanship, get specific please, you know - quotes and such. Since I'm stupid, as you say, I'm sure you won't mind explaining it to me in simple terms.

    ReplyDelete
  32. if all of this bothers anyone go hide before the sheriffs race
    starts.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think I'm going to wait to see who the Minden Press Herald and the Monroe newspapers endorse before I make my mind up!
And everyone lighten up on Jim! Good grief, it is HIS blog, after all! Start your own if you don't like his...or better yet, just don't read it if it "offends" you. I do not agree with him on everything but it is HIS.

    ReplyDelete
  34. jim, i am sorry if i caused you grief with my profanity. i spent a little time in europe and i guess i should have used quotations and said, "if you aint brit, you aint sh**!" is it better now?

p.s. i didnt know nuns read your blog.... congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thank you. You 'get it', some people don't. I put it out there and then the discussion starts.
That's why I like to blog on local politics and events, it draws people in to express their opinions. If someone disagrees with me they are welcome to air their views. If someone finds that too painful to handle they really shouldn't read the blog.

  36. To the commenter who left comments with the links to Channel 12 stories:
If you will also put up the links that state he was not prosecuted on any of the charges I will publish your links.

  37. For those who take issue with The Times, presumably a Shreveport-only publication, telling us in Bossier how to vote, how do you feel about Chief Deputy Rick Ware, a Shreveporter, telling us how to vote?

And I just got an Austin mailer signed by all the deputies in support of his campaign. It turned me off just about as bad as the mailer he sent out to make sure everyone knew Sam was not related to Johnny. I find it impossible to believe ALL the deputies want Austin to be the marshal.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Maybe Carl can get a job at The Time as a police beat reporter next week.

    ReplyDelete
  39. All of the deputies are not supporting Austin! They were pressured to do the commercial and the mailer, and were scared not to do it! So says several marshals! All they want is to be able to keep their job and support their families!

    ReplyDelete
  40. All the current deputy marshals DO NOT support Lynn Austin, they were made to endorse him....not very ethical for a man who is suppose to work for the public

    ReplyDelete
  41. I work with all the deputies and I can assure you the endorsement is for real!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have a friend who knows a deputy. He said the deputy told him he is hopeful one of the non-Austin candidates gets elected, but he is having to publicly support Austin because of pressure from the top.

    ReplyDelete
  43. IT SEEMS MR AUSTIN HAS NOT ONE DROP OF INTEGRITY. PUTTING THOSE DEPUTYS IN THAT SPOT IS NOTHING SHORT OF CRUEL. BUT ETHICS APPERENTLY DOESNT APPLY TO HIM WITH EVERYTHING HE HAS PULLED IN THIS CAMPAIGN. MAYBE THE VOTERS CAN GET HIS ATTENTION.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I hope this puts an end to the rumor mill about the deputies. Here is the truth. NOBODY IS FORCING IN DEPUTY TO DO ANYTHING THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO!! You are right about them fearing for their jobs, but not from Lynn. Obviously Wyatt and Richard have leaks in their corners and they know jobs have been promised. If they are publically promising to not fire any deputy and new deputies can't be hired without city approval, there who are they lying to?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good try! Austin offered Richard the Chief Deputy job if he would drop out of the and Richard told him no.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good April Fools Joke! Austin offered Richard the Chief Deputy job if he would drop out of the and Richard told him no.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lynn offering Richard a job is the most absurb april fools joke there is.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The offer is a known fact, Lynn did offer the position to Richard and he did say NO, everyone knows this but you few! It was a joint effort by the Austin supporters to eliminate the playing field. This OFFER was of public knowledge, where were you? It went on for weeks almost on a daily basis prior to qualifing,Probably will go down in the political archives as the first Candidate that stood up to the Regime, and just simply said, NO! As Glenn Beck said check it out don't take our word for it. SEE YA AT THE POLLS!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well it is the Day after Aprils Fool and it is no joke, the offer was made, fact of record. Austin's campaign offered Carl the Deputy Marshal position if Richard would drop out of the race using unethical unorthodox means of persuasion presented by numerous players of their team on a several occasions.
The answer to the numerous proposals was a definite, without hesitation "NO"

If indeed this is news to anyone, where have yall Been???

    ReplyDelete
  50. @April 2, 2011 1:49 PM...just because something is said on a blog doesn't make it true. I guess somebody could get on here and say Carl promised Lynn the same thing if he would drop out. Sammy and Carl could have had the same conversation. The only thing I did hear and know to be a fact is that Sammy told Lynn he was NOT running and then turned around and ran. I've heard BOTH of them talking about that. We will see in a few hours how the voters of BC feel about the candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Austin was never seen as a threat for Richard, to even suggest such a thing is ridiculous, Carl Wayne believes the American way, anyone wanting to vye for any office should do so with no reservations. Richard ran his Campaign on presenting the facts and letting the Good people decide, no gimics no allusion just following through with almost two decades of planning and achieving special training and educating himself to be the best he can be, to serve the citizens of Bossier City to the highest degree they deserve. He is ready, the time is right and God willing he will fulfill his lifetime Dream. Nothing more nothing Less!

    ReplyDelete
  52. God wasn't willing.

  53. Ask the people of Shreveport how well they like their own marshall's office. We don't like them at all. Pitiful. Congratulations to Bossier for making a good choice.
