It's official - Dempsey not running

Now we're back down to a two man race.  Julian Whittington will announce his candidacy next Tuesday.  We'll have a profile on Whittington in the next day or so.
Next week we'll have a profile on Mike McConnell.
It's only starting folks, who knows what could happen next?

  1. Smart move for Dempsey. I hear there are a few men from BCPD trying to decide if they want to run.....I still think it will be a 3+ candidate race.

  2. Think Mike Halphen will jump in?

  3. I was leaning toward Whittington, but if he made any kind of deals with Dempsey to keep him in a high position in exchange for not running I will support someone else. Whittington needs to address this early in his campaign.

  4. Could be that Dempsey wasn't going to get the support he expected from the Sheriff. Again, speculation.

  5. Jim- I don't think Halphen will run. I have heard rumors that Bill Grumble is thinking about entering the race, but as I said that's just a rumor. What is the qualifying deadline? It's usually July.....that's along time and the race could drastically change before then.

  6. I think it's in August. A lot could happen between now and then.

  7. Others are definitely interested. Halphen , ken weaver, even Marvin has an interest

  8. I can see Kenny Weaver running for Sheriff. He wasn't always in agreement with Deen. As far as Marvin, he has it made where he is. He is well suited for DA and is doing a terrific job. What about the Viola's??? Anybody heard if they are thinking of running?

  9. I heard that Kathy viola might run. She has experience there and would probably do great

    ReplyDelete
  10. Violas? Please give me a break! They drink way too much to be Sheriff! They are legends in their own mind!

  11. Kathy Viola is a good woman and is excellent in her capacity at BSO. I'm not sure if she would run against Whittington. I do see Whittington promoting her to Chief of Corrections with the BSO. Kenny Weaver held that position before he retired. She is the only high ranking female at BSO and worked hard to get that rank.

  12. Doyle Dempsey is an honorable man with more integrity than all the others combined. That's why he's getting out of the race!

  13. First I have never understood why someone would hold a meeting to tell everyone they are not running. I think Dempsey and Whittington have something going on. I Don't trust them. The fruit does not fall far from the (Deen) tree.

  14. Dempsey saw the light and was right, it would have divided the department and he being on the losing end of the deal! His decision was only made for self preservation, I promise you. Whittington may have made a deal but Dempsey will not remain number two. As far as Dison, Halphen, and any other Bossier City candidate thinking about entering the race, do not! Whittington will garner the support of the department which is 300 hundred strong and he is an honorable man. He will clean up the administration by getting rid of the dead weight and promote equally. Bossier Parish citizens are fed up with the politics of old and are ready to welcome someone new in.

  15. "She is the only high ranking female at BSO and worked hard to get that rank."

Not everyone at BPSO has worked long and hard for the ranks they have achieved. It's no secret that Deen plays favorites. Look at the pay scale. Why is it that Dempsey makes well over $100K for only 6 years work? Why does Deen's secretary make over $100K, but the street cops make far less? Why do some Sgts make more than some Lts?

Not saying there aren't some who work hard for their rank, but Deen has thrown traditional merit-based promotion out the window.

  16. Well, it looks as if some bloggers were right about Deen and Whittington only acting as if they hated each other. Dempsey would have to have Deen's blessing to align himself with Whittington if the fued were true. Only in Bossier Parish. What is it going to take to get this family out of office....

  17. Doyle will leave the BSO for the LSP or the FBI in the next 2 years.....watch and see!

  18. Hey everyone, Heckler is now online!

Dude, who saw the news??? What's up with "Loyal" Doyle? Bet he's made some dude's mad at him!

You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out, you do the hokie-pokie and shout, "I'm OUT!"
    BaaaaaHaaaaaHaaaaa!!!!!

  19. Dempsey may not have been financially able to run a successful campaign against Whittington. Did anyone really think Deen was going to turn his war chest over to Dempsey???? Really?? Deen is too greedy to do something like that.... Rumor is Deen will run against Jindal for Governor....

  20. Heckler, that is the funniest thing I have ever heard.

Didn't somebody blog that Deen and Whittington broke a long time ago and that Whitting resigned because he hated the things that he was doing. Looks like blood is thicker than water and it also looks like Deen hates McConnell worse than his cousin. Looks like McConnell is a threat to the Deen-Whittington impire. My my my.

"He will clean up the administration by getting rid of the dead weight and promote equally."

If this is so, what's been keeping from doing so for the last 20 years?

He's a "yes-man" and without anyone telling him what to do or how to do it, he's lost.

  22. All this stupid stuff concerning "Forehead" Whittington, "Loyal" Doyle, and "The Man" McConnell is enough to make my head hurt.

    Damn, I need a snow-cone!
    (I don't drink.)
    BaaaaaaHaaaaaaHaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Do you really think Whittington could have undone anything Deen wanted done? Would you quit your job because you didn't like the way your boss was running things? Whittington did.
    He will be elected.

Hate to tell you this sweetie, Whittington has been Deen's right hand man for about twenty years with a paycheck of over one hundred thousand for as many years. If he wanted to impress anyone, he should have left years ago. You fool no one.

  25. Dam I sure hope you're a woman calling me sweetie.

  26. Dude, that's a good one!

Too bad I didn't come up with it.

I am a retired educator and it is "damn" (sorry for my OCD), and excuse my language. It is not dignified for a woman of my age to use it.
    Smoochies

I am so glad. Nice speaking with you, it is time for me to retire.
    Good night.

  30. Ok, so all we know is McConnell is running unopposed until sometime next week when Whittington comes out. My question is this, the good ol boy money is not backing Deen because he is retiring. So that means for them to stay in power they have to back someone. My money is on Whittington.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Halphen, please run!!!!
    Everyone needs a good laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The only thing that has been constant through this whole race has been McConnell. Everyone else has been flip flopping. This is getting silly.

  33. Mini me will not have a chance - i am glad he is running now so we dont have to keep hearing about him - he will not draw 25 percent - it will a complete A-- whipping - but i will give him this - if he had not chosen to run - i believe Deen would not have bowed out - i have been saying for years that Deen was a paper tiger - he has so many skeletons that are so easy to figure out - if you had just a little bit of money - he would have been crushed. Julian is a good man - he is easy going - and I just hope the power does not go to his head. Dooley and Deen in the end were victims of pride - felt they were untouchable and started doing really crazy stuff that ultimately led to their demise. I wish Julian would be who he is and not what he can become - just keep it simple - scale back the fiefdom - cut out some of the more laughable programs - Exodus for example, and just protect the citizens of Bossier - hire good men and women - provide sound leadership and stay out of the folks way he hires to do the jobs.

  34. In the real world, people that have been in positions for shorter periods of times make more money based on performance, not on "length of service". In government its all about tenure, as opposed to impact.

Government and Unions tend to be the only place this sort of misguided practice takes place. So although I disagree with a secretary making over 100K, the fact that Dempsey has moved up the ranks quickly, or other men/women in positions that don't "outrank" certain positions make more money, does not seem out of line in and of itself. Government positions with all the entitlements and tenure tend to produce the "do just enough to get by" mentality. So in my view when someone comes along that exceeds expectations they should be rewarded with higher pay and faster promotions.

Whittington and Dempsey are both fine individuals. The fact that Dempsey did not run does not automatically mean there is some sort of conspiracy. Whittington will have my full support.

You are talking in circles. If Whittington knows where the skeletons are then he should have done the right thing years ago and done something about it instead of living wih his $100,000.00+ a year job. That is true greed. And, why the insult to Mr. McConnell's presumable stature. I must say that it takes a very big man to take on crooked government and have to deal with immature people who can only attack him on his size and not his platform. It looks to me that he has been able to answer all of the tough questions that every moron like you have thrown at him and he make more sense everyday. I was not a fan of his until he began to speak on this blog. It is a true stature of a man to take your darts and still answer your questions. I truely belive that people like you are making him look better all the time.

  38. The only Viola liked in this town is Jim. I think he is quite content farming and drawing his retirement from BCPD. Kenny and Virginia both have way too much baggage for the sheriff's job. Not to mention, they could never raise the money necessary to run.
