Sit Down and Shut Up

KTAL Channel 6 ran a story last night with a video of some of accused triple murderer Charles “Copperhead” Needham’s neighbors.
"He is a good dude in the community a lot of people say stuff about him, but around here he a good dude," said Akili Wyatt.
"He's passed out money, would help and he would give you his last," said Carolyn Wyatt. "That's the type of man I know."
I haven’t seen anything in any of the stories about Copperhead’s profession, or where he is employed. If he goes around the neighborhood passing out money, he must have a very good job indeed. Maybe one of the media outlets will investigate this and publish his resume` so that we can see where he acquired the riches that he uses in his philanthropic endeavors.
Akili and Carolyn Wyatt said Needham didn't commit this crime.
"The police and the detectives need to look for a motive and intent," added Carolyn. "I don't think "Cop" (Gerald Needham) had either one of those."
Despite a lengthy criminal past Wyatt said Needham shouldn't be in jail for past convictions.
"And not hung out to dry because of his past record," said Carolyn. "I know that happens and I know most people are tried on their past records."
"What kind of evidence do they have on him," asked Akili. "Hear say stuff doesn't work on everybody."
By all means BCPD, if Akili and Carolyn down in Jack's Quarters say that the man didn't commit the crime, you should release him forthwith.
She’s probably right, just because he has numerous convictions resulting from charges of Unauthorized use of a movable, Simple Escape, Simple Escape, Possession of Cocaine, Battery of a Police Officer, Battery of a Police Officer, Battery of a Police Officer, Armed Robbery, Possession of Marjuana with intent to sell, Possession of Schedule II with intent to sell, Attempt to smuggle Contraband into a Jail, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Battery of a Police Officer, Resisting an Officer, Battery on a Corrections Officer, Simple Possession of, Marijuana & Resisting a Police Officer, doesn’t mean that he committed this crime, nor does the fact that he has been a suspect in another multiple homicide.
The Police Detectives who worked this case probably wrote down the name of 30 or 40 convicted felons and just happened to pull Copperhead’s name out of a hat.
Are you freaking kidding me?

  2. Jim, I am so glad you printed what those two people said about the accused killer. I heard their replies last night and I was hoping someone would shine a light on what they said. That is how drug dealers and criminals work they pass a little money around to keep everyone happy and shut them up. It has worked well in Shreveport and in Ringgold where they stand on the street corner and sell their wares.

  3. Copperhead is well known to area law enforcement. Has been for the last 20 years. Is anyone really surprised he was arrested for this offense? Sure he's a great guy giving away all that money. The only problem is, it's not his money. And what do you expect of his local friends? This is a population of people that are "entitled" and have never worked a day in their life for anything but don't have a problem living off the rest of us. May you burn in hell Copperhead. It's about damn time.

  8. Jim,
Armed Robbery (armed with any type of weapon other than a gun) in this state holds a manditory sentence of 10-99 years. Armed Robbery with a handgun bumps it up to 15-104 years. If he would have been convicted in 2007, this crime would not have happened and he would be in jail for at leasst 15 years with no probation, no parole and no suspension of sentence.

  10. Anon@11:17 I almost stood up and broke into hallelujahs and applause when I read your comment. That SOB deserves the chair. He is an evil, evil soul who's ruthless ways have come to an end. I think he needs to change his nickname because the snake is dead. Jim, your sarcasm oozed like sweet music all through this blog. Great job.

  13. He'll let him plead to 2nd degree murder. He'll say it cheaper than a death penalty case. I think he should listen to the people on this one. The citizens are going to want the death penalty for this guy.

  14. Unfortunately the freedoms hardworking, deserving folks enjoy in this country are extended to people like "cops" neighbors who don't deserve to breathe my grandchildrens' air. But what irritates me the most is the television news stations allowing them to be heard. I can understand the little reporter fresh out of community college taking the video, but shouldn't there be a responsible editor or producer back at the station to prevent them from airing the garbage that came out of their mouths?

  15. Channel 6 is always doing things like that. Everytime the police arrest a high profile individual, they always try to make the suspect sound like a victim and the police the bad guys. This is why they are last in the ratings around here in news coverage

  16. Skill eyatt's criminal history reads similar to Needhams. Battery on officer, resisting arrest, drugs, burglary, theft, and in 1998 he was involved in a murder in the same neighborhood. Shocking isn't it?

  17. Akili Wyatt.. Sorry

  18. ya'll are so right. how ignorant of those neighbors to simply jump to the conclusion that this guy is innocent. i mean, we haven't even had a trial, and they're ready to exonerate him!

judging prior to seeing the evidence, that's outrageous. good thing it's only these sorry welfare queens (anon at 11:17, you hear me?) who commit that offense.

  22. I just got back in town and am learning about this a bit late. Even tho I have never been in law enforcement, I have heard of this jerk from people who are cops.

Those jokers who are defending this career criminal sound like a complete waste of flesh, just like copperhead.

What is bad is these idiots are voters. Wonder if they might support the liberal candidates who will take from the producers and give to them?
