Harvey vs Hanisee: Part Two

Larry Hanisee
Call it the battle of the good guys.
In the closest local election in anyone’s memory, Larry Hanisee won the Special Election for City Council District 5 in October of 2011. The seat had been vacated by ‘Chubby’ Knight, who has since passed away.
Of 2,320 votes cast, Hanisee won by 2 votes.
Tommy Harvey
Now it is time for the regular municipal elections, and Tommy Harvey can’t resist. He qualified yesterday at the Clerk of Court’s office in order to give it one more shot.
I will note that in addition to being one of the closest races we have seen, it was also one of the cleanest. I expect no difference this time.
The advantage to an incumbent is that, well, he is an incumbent. The disadvantage of being an incumbent is that he also has votes on record for the last two years. We’ll see if there is anything in that record with which Mr. Harvey will take issue.
That, and of course turnout, will be the theme of this election.

  1. Looks like I am batting 1.000 on my predictions so far.

  2. Not so fast! Bossier City real estate agent, Mischa Angel, qualified Friday for the District 5 race!

  3. She will take that one. Never saw that one coming!

  4. I don't anything about her. Anyone with information?

  5. This is going to be some very fine entertainment.

  6. I agree. She gets the women vote and the "none of the above" vote. The two guys basically ran a tie and the turn out shows that neither have much of a following. She will win this one. Nice and smart to boot.

  7. All the naysayers - walker in - majority of council in - hall stays / guess folks in bossier are pretty happy as they should be

  8. I wish she would have run against Montgomery.

  9. I see where Harvey wants to run an interstate across Barksdale. Did he get the okay from the Dapartment of Defense? We have been waiting on I-49 for how long, and it does not even cross a Base? What a joke!

  10. Not to mention years and millions on environmental impact and wetland lands issues.

  11. Calm down. He just said he wanted our stated and federal lawmakers to start looking into it.
Beside Angel has filed for bankruptcy and her granddaughter is married to Tim Larkin's son. I guess that explains why she didn't run for an at-large seat

  12. You can ask state and federal lawmakers to do that as a ordinary citizen. Wonder why he did not make that call years ago? Will not happen in his lifetime.

  13. It's something that's been mentioned before by the mayor. They've talked about completing that interchange before at I-20 and I-220. The real issue is Tommy Harvey isn't your guy so you are just trying to discredit him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not true. Mr. Harvey, you don't know what you are talking about. Never discussed as a pass through by anybody. That kind of dialog without the Department of Defense iniative is reckless. You don't play that fast and loose with a $750M economic impact, just to get elected, Master Sargent. Stay with boxes and packing peanuts.

  15. Believe what you want to believe. Tommy Harvey will make a better city councilman than do nothing Larry. He is a nice guy but he does absolutely nothing but occupies space on the city council. The same way Scott Irwin does. Mike Beam is south Bossier's best bet as well.

  16. Based on previous comment on Larkin's son beign married to Angel's grandaughter just makes one wonder how this little family group will all stick together when decision time comes ocrucial votes affecting residents such as taxes/fees. May be something to watch as to how they vote especially if it comes down to one vote one way or the other on some crucial issue. Family usually sticks together on these matters.

  17. Chief Harvey,,

Did you know that the Fed took that path off the books long ago and you can't get funding. Go back to packing peanuts, you are embarrassing yourself.

  18. I remember the mayor and current city council talking about finishing that intersection when the Cyber Innovation Center was going to create a population explosion in Bossier. Talk about an embarrassment. They are still calling it a trying to call it a success. They even plan on building more buildings out there. Just what kind of innovations are being done out there? Tommy Harvey wants to simply look into possibly building a road but the current group of idiots want to build an empty "research park". I call them an embarrassment.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tommy Harvey will never look at building a road to anywhere unless he extends his driveway.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree. Bossier does not need Tommy Harvey.

  21. Wow, last election everything was civil. I guess they wasn't expecting Tommy Harvey to be a factor. This time the old regime is ready and on the attack. I can tell because of their argument that he shouldn't be city councilman because he simply wants to build a road. He only needs to change two people's mind and he has already done that so be afraid old regime. Be afraid.

  22. That is how smart you are. Not just a road - a road across the base that they want no part of and a road that the feds took of the chart so there would be no funding. I am involved with Barksdale support groups and the Chamber and his ill prepared comments ran many of us off.

  23. I will vote for Hanisee. He started off well(voting indifferent than the established normal) and then seemed to go to and still in coast mode.

Maybe he will shake it up after the elections.

Some folks' conventional wisdom says a jolt now and then makes the ride a little smoother.

  24. Harvey already scared. Throwing and throwing stones.

    1. Doesn't sound like Harvey is scared.....Maybe J.R...still watching out for his meal ticket!

  25. As we all know people don't always tell the truth. Those kids are not married as a previous poster reported. I taught both of them in school and know them personally. Why don't we just stick to the issues and people who will enhance our city.

  26. Mrs Angel will be a yes person for Tim Larkin, which along with all other council should have had opposition due to the rediculus settlement in the U.L> Coleman situation which stinks to high heaven. No wonder you can't hire policemen or give them a raise, we settle out of court, thanks to Mr. Hall and the city council, and pay attorney's out of Baton Rouge to handle the whole stinking mess. When is Lo going to wake up and get rid of that guy.Back to the district 5 race, Mr. Hanisee hasn't done anything in the 2 years he has been there but vote how David Jones told him to. Now that David's gone what now, the only choice is Tommy Harvey.

  27. Harvey is making a lot of promises that he cannot deliver. He will tell you exactly what you want to hear no matter how big the lie. I checked on some things he told me and he is either a good liar or just dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Obviously you must mean Hanisee because Harvey is a retired Master Chief Sgt. For sure not a liar or dumb!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Harvey needs to tell the people he wants to raise taxes. That is the only way he can do the tings he is promising. Tell them Harvey that taxes are part of your plan.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why is the only way have to raising taxes? How bout stop all the wasteful spending? Quit spending taxpayer dollars on private businesses. Stop that and there should be plenty of money without having to raise taxes. Did you think about that Ms. Angel? Your the last person who needs to give advise about finances seeing you had to file bankruptcy twice.

    1. Mr. Harvey, surely you know the difference between the General Fund and capital improvements funds. Come on taxing Tommy, tell the people the truth. You want to raise taxes or you are lying to the people with false promises. Tell the truth Taxing Tommy!

  31. Where is all of this change that posters have been predicting. The most change looks to be 1 and possibly none. Seems like the malcontents are the minority.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mr. Harvey can't raise taxes, without the vote of the public, and he hasn't said anything about raising taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He must want to propose to raise taxes to do the stuff he is promising.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 3:57,
Ms. Angel you must be getting desperate. Telling people that candidate is going to raise taxes when they can't raise taxes is pathetic. How you worry about your bankruptcy then you focus on politics.

  35. Taxing Tommy has spoken. Got your number Cheif. Can't get your head out of the public trough.
