ReplyDeleteBossier is not broke. These bloggers could not read a city budget if it hit them between the eyes. The general fund is maxed and that is based on taxes we pay. The other funds are flush but what idiot would spend one time money in the general fund. The only people crying broke are a small handfull of cry baby cops that want more. Go find it. Bossier property taxes that fund the general fund are at a thirty year low. Wanna pay more. Maybe the cops should push for a tax and let's see what the people really want.

Coleman debacle in south Bossier. $40 million on a parking garage. The Benton Road overpass was built with local money but should have been built with state money instead. So I would watch who I call idiot. Your an idiot for voting for these local people too.

Very nice statement 4:54. A point to ponder also. Some new candidates might be trying to relive some glory days. Not that this is a bad thing. But some one ready to shake a rattle, create a bump or three and awaken the sleepers might not be such a bad thing.

ReplyDeleteI would just like to see improvements to our day to day lives. Why can't the street be repaired on Shed Road West of Benton Road where the railroad tracks USED to be. Why can't the traffic signals be set to where if you do the speed limit you would make all the lights on Benton Road, Airline Drive and Barksdale Blvd? The bridge on Benton Road is spilled milk and we should just leave it alone until someone wants to name it the Lo Walker Memorial Bridge. It should have been an underpass but that would have saved too much money. And we'll make up the money on rent of the Cyber Space building about the same rate we pay off the Superdome. Will we ever have a train station in Bossier? The large parking lot between Bossier High and the Horseshoe Casino belongs to Bossier City. Pretty soon Dallas will have a train station at DFW airport. How neat it would be to catch the train in Bossier and ride it to the airport. A lot cheaper than driving, paying for parking or buying a plane ticket to shreveport.

ReplyDeleteNo underpass because the water table is at about 8 feet. A train station - really - it would take 6 hours with the mail stops and if it was a good thing the casinos would be pushing for it. Thank God you are not in office!

The train taking 6 hours with mail stops--evidently you haven't been to Dallas on the train. It leaves Marshall at 7:50 and gets to Dallas at 11:30. Thats only 3hours 40minutes and it costs only $36. How many days of parking do you think you can get at DFW for $36? At 200 miles from Bossier City to DFW at 20 MPH, that's 10 gallons @ $3.52. WOW you saved 48cents driving yourself before parking fees!!!!! Glad you're not in office and making things up as you go.
ReplyDeleteEver wonder why the underpass at Hamilton is always wet? Ever wonder what it cost to add rail service. 1 million for the train station - all public knowledge. Want to catch a train on Hamilton and leave you car in the rail yard? I have gone to listen in the public meetings and I don't want my officials spending that much money for a handful of people. If you can't afford the gas or parking - can you really afford the plane ticket? Why not take the bus and save even more?
ReplyDeleteAnon 3:34 PM The bus is what takes about 6 hours to get to Dallas because of all the stops between here and there. You switch between time tables to economics. The only thing consistent is you don't want a train station. One of the things big corporations look at and decide on locations is whether there is Amtrack service to the area. Stay on your agenda of not doing anything to attract business to the area and not let Bossier thrive so we will always be in the dark shadow of Shreveport. We fight every year to keep Barksdale and one day it is going to disappear. Then what? I don't want Bossier to wind up like so many other places where our children have to move away to find a job. If the FAA closes the tower at Shreveport airport you will have to drive to DFW or somewhere else to catch a commercial flight. We need to quit putting all our eggs in one basket. By the way, went under the tracks on Hamilton Road toay, NO WATER!

No correlation, but for what it is worth, The Water Treatment Facility is doing very well and is a cohesive self contained
very well run and productive managed entity. One of the few departments that runs well in the city.
Accolades to that crew. Besides sales and property taxes the water plant works well with what crew has to work with..... Income to the city.

Anon @ 6:45AM IT'S A DEAD ISSUE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE BUT THE CITY WANTED TO SPEND THE MONEY FOR AN OVERPASS AND THEY DID. NO REASON TO DO AN UNDERPASS NOW BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE FOR A LOT LESS THAN WHAT THE BRIDGE COST. THE POINT IS THE LACK OF VISION TO INVESTIGATE ALL POSSIBILITIES AND UTILIZE THE ONE MOST COST EFFICIENT AND STILL GET THE JOB DONE.

ReplyDeleteThe only thing that you are going to build on a state highway is what they want you to build. But I guess you did not know that because you just want to gripe. There is a ditch and a LOT of pipe in the ground there that CANNOT be rerouted unless you want to deprive everybody west of Benton Road of water and sewer.
ReplyDeleteI have watched these post with amazement.Some things right a lot wrong. The facts are in 1997 Aillet, Fenner was hired to work with the state to determine how to address the crossing and what would DOTD approve. The overpass design was the cheapest. An underpass required geometry that would force the road to go so deep that it would have to go under a ditch, pipes, utilities. That would require the purchase of every property from -porters to the edge of krogers on both sides of the road. So contrary to the griping posters belief, there was a process. Sorry you were not invited 11:17. Public meetings occurred for 1 year.

ReplyDeleteI get a thought that would separate the educated from the uneducated, the truly experienced from the truly uneducated, the using public safety fear tactics of true needs like infrastructure to the tactics of completing the needs of infrastructure.
Police and fire Depts. are doing pretty good with what they have to work with. Other short handed departments are not.
Debates would be of interest. I would like to see a challenge.
I meant to say the truly experienced from the truly in experienced in my above post. My bad. I am not that experienced or educated. Just a tad skeptical of the way things are going.

Veteran officers leaving for higher paying departments and rookies who were rejected by other departments. That's all we can hire is bottom of the barrel. Just askingbpeople to wake up thats all. ReplyDeleteBecause its not maxed. In 2009 the tax was renewed and rolled forward. That gave and extra 3 to 4 million to the fund. We are working with less officers and firemen now than we were back then. The dispatchers are making more money than the officers. This is why veteran officers are constantly leaving. There is no need for a new tax. Just new councilman that don't hate us.

I guess he got his information from the finance director who at one time said we were 6 million in the whole then a few months later said we had a 6 million dollar surplus. Don't tell me my information is bad when that was the information that was put out there. I personally don't think you really know what your talking about Genius.
ReplyDeleteAnon at 9:39 if you are truly a police officer, you are not presenting your case very well. Most departments in Bossier City are very short handed and under paid. The rest of the city's departments absorbed layoffs and firings and loss due to attrition and cushioned first responders actual allotted position in the cities projected budget. We are all working harder and taking on more daily duties.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the cities departments are truly taking on more responsibilities and still taking on the sucker punch a few years ago when the city leaders finally admitted they did not have more money than God.
First responders have continually received the annual increases that the city council changed the wording from annual raises to "merit raise"that all other departments have not received until this year(%2) when the FICA tax hike(%2) actually reduced the take home pay.
There is currently a so called hiring and wage freeze. There is promotions and hiring going on almost daily. I would like to challenge the city leaders to quit hiding behind their own financial mistakes and declare the financial crises is over.
No more resolutions needed to hire. Let the department heads do their job. Ridiculous.
Pay the meat and potatoes of the inner workings of the operations of Bossier( the best asset they have),,, employees a livable wage. Also certain PD personal(so they claim) keep posting crime rate is going up when actual reported crimes are going down.
Quit blackmailing the public under the guise of public safety.
Jim, you apparently carry a little weight with your blog. How about that blog about the other departments lower tier employees being under staffed and under paid. Maybe stirring the proverbial kettle at election time might reveal some truisms instead of the constant Bull****.

This maintains your Bond rating so you can borrow money cheaply. People have eaten all the donuts in the other boxes and are headed for the last box. They are told if you start into this box we are headed into a donut deficient and we must not eat the last six. Surplus mandated - eating toward it deficits. Hope the donut thing helps.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who knows, there will not be pay increases for at least several years without a tax and maybe not then. The only other possibility would be to farm out public service to the sheriff to get away from the police pension. Nif one cop is hired at 38 k a year, his pension cost another 11 k a year. More and more cities are just contracting with the sheriff. Happy golfing!

Any chance of a dog park in Bossier City. Dog owner's votes would cancel out the BCPD Vote, the Reality Vote, The long term politician vote. Rover needs a running trail. Keep it in Bossier.
ReplyDeleteI was going to ask the same thing. My guess is Shreveport would have to do it first. Then Bossier will do it afterward and rant and rave about how progressive they are. I don't think it would be that expensive. We have plenty of unused space in our parks that could be fenced in. Don't hold your breathe 10:15. Our leaders are not as progressive as they claim to be.

This my uneducated guess why Shreveport and Bossier has no official dog parks. Lot's of lawsuits around.
You need to be worried more about an honest Mayor than a dog Park. The lawsuits that could pile up against what could be corruption against the BCPD could far surpass a dog bite. Shreveport will get their dog park, this blog is called My Bossier.

ReplyDeleteThere is a statute that covers municipalities from lawsuits from injuries that occur in city parks. I'm sure our city attorney doesn't know about it. But he should because on the positive for him if somebody sues he can call his buddies at the law firm and ride it out for 4 or 5 years then it'll be thrown out but his buddies get rich. We get a dog park and he and his buddies get rich. Win win
Why don't we just wait and see what the owner of Margarita Ville thinks about a dog park. He, just like the people that owned the Funny Bone are the people that get what they want. Right Lo. Anyone can fake getting two torn ligaments in their shoulder, happens all the time, in Bossier City.
