Parkway Principal Caught up in a Whirlwind of Controversy

Parkway High School Principal Nichole Bourgeois has been sued again, this time by the former school nurse.
Parkway’s football team is having an explosive season, but they won’t be able to host a playoff game at home because the High School Athletic Association has sanctioned the school as a result of the handcuffing of Live Oak coach Barry Musemeche last year. Bourgeois said that “when he would not leave the field after several requests, I requested that the police officers take him off the field”
According to the lawsuit filed by Musemeche, the Parkway band was not supposed to take the field until 7:45. After the Live Oak Band decided not to go on the field, Musemeche says he had an agreement with the Parkway coach and the head official to keep his team on the field warming up until the Parkway band was due at 7:45. At 7:35 Bourgeois ordered Live Oak to leave the field. When Musemeche did not comply, Bourgeois asked law enforcement to escort him from the field.
The LHSAA agreed that this was improper, and sanctioned the school. Unfortunately, that also keeps the football players from playing on their home field in a playoff game.
I truly hate this for the players, but appeals were exhausted in March, and this week after reconsidering, the executive committee of LHSAA overwhelming voted to uphold the sanction.
Although I seriously doubt that it will have any effect, there is a petition online that you can sign onto asking them to reconsider again.
Musemeche has sued the School Board, Nichole Bourgeois, Bossier Parish Sheriff and the City of Bossier. He says that he is not seeking financial gain, but only to restore his good name. "I'm 49 years old and I've never been handcuffed in my life and I never thought that 20 minutes before a football game warming up my team would be the thing that would do it”, he said.
Now to more serious matters.
There have been multiple suicides in South Bossier, some involving Parkway students. Jessica Morton sued Principal Bourgeois and the School Board after the suicide of her daughter, Danielle Cox, alleging that the school and the principal did nothing to protect Danielle.
Now that claim has been reinforced by the latest lawsuit, brought by Lori Rayborn, who was the school nurse at Parkway. Rayborn’s lawsuit is available online at the KSLA website. She alleges that her concerns about Danielle were ignored, and that the school failed to provide Danielle and other Diabetic students with mandated care provided by the Americans with Disability Act.
KSLA’s story about the lawsuit and the entire situation is here.
Eighteen year old Jason Thomas is going on trial in December on a charge of criminal assistance to suicide in December in Danielle’s case.
In April some band members were involved in a hazing incident that simulated a sex act. You can read about that case here.
Now a Facebook Page 'Fire Nichole Bourgeois' has been started.
A lot is going on in South Bossier that has a lot of people upset, and Principal Bourgeois is right in the thick of it. We’ll see what, if anything, happens as a result.

    2. You must know a different Nichole Bourgeois. Sure, she has probably had her good moments in life, but as a former student of Parkway High School who was picked out by her time and time again, I must disagree. She knew I suffered from clinically diagnosed depression yet she chose to pick at me until I snapped and ended up in the local mental hospital. Does that sound like she cares for her students?! If she did not like you, even if it was over the smallest, pettiest thing, she let you know and would do whatever she could to bring you down. However, she did have her favorites who she was an angel to, and they saw no evil in her. Does she have the potential to be a good person? Yes, I believe so. Early on in my high school career I was punched in the back by a boy and she got him the punishment he deserved. Even though that made her a better person at the time, what she did to me a few years later changed all of that, and I think she needs to be taught a lesson. I still have nightmares where I am trapped in Parkway and she is chasing me. Not even kidding. That is the extent of the psychological impact she had on me.

    3. She is a horrible leader of that school and not a good person. She has a very liberal agenda and is pushing it on our kids. Lets not discuss her abhorrent lifestyle. She is a dictator.

  3. It is sad that the LHSAA felt it necessary to punish those who had nothing to do with the causes of playoff ban that were created by a couple of people.
I am greatly saddens me to see people who don't see other way out of a temporary situation other than a permanent solution and truly wish that there is a way to convince them thing do get better. For some growing up is a confusing time. Remember, "But for the grace of God go I." Prayers for those who left us and for the loved oned left behind.

  4. as a parent of a child who attends parkway that has been bullied by their peers and by the staff! Nichole Bourgeois did nothing about it. She completely supported her staff and everything was turned around on my child. even when she was given the proof of the actions of her students and staff. What is it going to take to get her removed?

  5. I don't believe or codon bullying. I also don't believe its a principals job to coddle students. School is tough. The real world is tougher. I believe in standing up to a bully. Come on parents. It's time to be parents and stop blaming school and school officials

    1. But what about when the principal herself is the bully? Or other faculty members? It IS their job to NOT bully their students. Especially students with addressed mental health issues.

  6. This principal does not care about our children, all she cares about is her title of Dr. Bourgeios. if you make an attempt to show any kind of respect & call her Ms. Bourgios she's quick on the draw to correct you & tell you she's Dr, not Ms, Cut the kid a break at least they're making an attempt tpo show respect.

  7. Nicole is a fine lady - i have known her for more than 25 years - anyone believes she does not bleed red, black and white is not informed. Could not have a better advocate and leader for that school. Naysayers here are either the ones she got rid of or the uninformed. Nicole - keep up the good work. And when the mighty Panthers win the championship at all those away games - they will have no excuses.

    1. She must have "gotten rid of" ALOT of naysayers then. It seems to be well into the hundreds, and if she ever were to catch you calling her Nicole instead of Dr. Bourgeios, she would spit venom. I am informed enough to know that.

    2. Fine? On what planet? She is a hateful, liberal dictator who tried to get rid of FCA when she was sill an assistant principle. She is pushing her personal liberal views and lifestyle on the employees and children at that school.

      Delete
    3. Oh, okay, so I assume all these people coming out and sharing their stories against her are making it up? She is very prideful in her school, yes, but she is NOT FIT FOR A POSITION DEALING WITH TEENAGERS. I am trying to restrain myself because I am so mad right now that you think she is doing good work when there are children that were bullied by her into dropping out or EVEN DEAD. So don't even start with the victims because you will lose big time.

    4. I find your comment about the mighty panthers winning the state championship VERY OFFENSIVE. This is about children being bullied. The mere suggestion that Bourgeois will be vindicated if the football team wins the state championship is STUPID and OFFENSIVE.

    5. FCA is alive and well at Parkway High School with Dr. Bourgeois as the biggest supporter!

    6. Only because she was told she could not touch it. I was there when she tried to get it taken out of the school.

    7. Nichole is not a supporter of FCA which goes against her liberal agenda.

  8. Nichole Bourgeois is a fine principal and a very stern leader of her school. If she wasn't then Parkway would be like some of those Shreveport schools. I'm all about providing help to people with real or serious mental illness but nowadays it seems everybody is on some type of medication for depression or bi-polar disorder. Grow up people.

I have dealt with many people over the years that insist on being called Dr. instead of their given name and almost without fail they are the most shallow and self-centered people on the planet.

    3. Okay that is it I am very mad. MENTAL ILLNESS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN JUST "GET OVER." You will never understand it until you or somebody you love experience the darkness that is mental illness. She is a stern leader, yes, but mainly a BULLY and you should be ashamed for telling people with mental illness to grow up.

    4. This "fine" principal is about to be liable for not doing the right thing when students are being bullied. It is her JOB to take care of the situation. You obviously are very uneducated and ignorant to make such a heartless comment. Lives are being taken because people think you need to "grow up".

  13. 11:02,
Not only do I have kids in Bossier schools, I attended Bossier Schools growing up. When I attended Bossier schools, they weren't the daycares that they are today. I can remember 4 people committing suicide when I was in high school. It was sad and tragic. At no time do I remember parents wanting to sue the school. We also didn't require police officers stationed at the school. It was soon after I graduated when police became common in high schools and everyone became sue happy. Because parents wanted to sue, paddling students ended. In school suspension began. Kids are out of control today and parents are to blame. Keep suing and keep blaming other. The schools officials are in a no win situation. Get too tough and you get sued. Don't do enough and you get sued. For any parent who has lost a child my thoughtsvand prayers are with you. I think we as parents should come up with an educated solution rather than points fingers and file lawsuits.

    1. Very well said. One thing we have an abundance of is kids that never do anything wrong. This used to not be. And our parents didn't jump to defend us. If it turns out we were innocent after being punished...then oh well, we probably got away with something once so now we're even. The school officials are in a no win just as you said! Also, back in the day, the school bullies would usually get caught up with and someone could whoop their butt. But there's no tolerance for fighting anymore. You go to jail and be expelled from school. Then the kid, the school, the principal and the school district get sued. I really don't know the answer but I think I know the problem. I work at a school and deal with this every day. When you call a parent over behavior problems the parents jump to defend the kids. The parents start teaming up against the bus driver, teachers, coaches and principals. It is never little Johnny's fault. I witness this daily. The kids know about this because Mom says "Well I'll call the principal tomorrow and straighten them out!" The kids know this and each day it starts over. (Obviously all kids aren't this way but enough of them) The teachers almost throw up their hands...they get it from every side and just can't win. They rally to fire the principal or the coaches, etc. Parents really don't see anymore how much this babying is hurting their own kids. They get out into society and the work place and they can't take criticism or competition and basically can't even deal with the outside world.

    2. You are absolutely correct!

  14. Allow God back in schools. He will handle up on this nonsense. If the principle has this many complaints on her especially in regards to not truly caring about the kids and bullying. Fire her already. And if she is truly the great principle very few are saying she is, then she will be able to obtain a fresh start at a different school. I graduated from PHS in 2001 and I'm starting to get embarrassed. Focus on the highest interest of the students and all will work out a lot smoother. Take the politics somewhere else. Time to grow up already and take out the trash.

    1. Don't even put "god" back in schools. Fictional characters don't solce problems, remember "seperation of church and state"? It's there for a reason, bud, not everyone relies on non existent sky beings to solve problems, because quite frabkly it all comes down to what you yourself is going to do, each individual, fictional beings don't change that.
Get an educatiin, learn respect for one another, treat others as you want to be treated and things work without "god" if each individual follows. But this day in age, people just don't think that way any more. We all want someone else to handle our problems, soneone else to be responsible. You using "god" as a scapegoat/problem solver/miracle worker gets no where.

  18. I am a former Parkway Student. I also was bullied; yet when my parents went to the school to talk to "Dr." Bourgeois, both her and the SRO told my parents they would not step in until they physically harmed me, and that threats alone were not enough.

Also, I will agree, she has pushed a liberal agenda since I have had the displeasure of her company. Not only did she attempt to have the FCA removed, she has placed unreasonable restrictions on the AFJROTC program, up to and including attempting to have the drill team replica weapons removed, the cadets are no longer allowed to wear flight caps or berets on uniform days, and she attempted to have the ROTC concessions stand shut down my senior year due to the fact that the items sold there were "unhealthy, and unfit for consumption" and that "furthermore, the current administration [Obama] is looking to reform the nutritional guidelines at schools, and we want to anticipate these changes before they go into effect." I'm sorry...but since the Air Force cut the AFJROTC funding nationally, that concession stand is their best source of income outside of the fundraisers, which she also tried to do away with.

Aside from that, there are other instances where she has ruined her students school careers. One instance is a friend of mine who she suspended for fighting, when she was only defending herself from another girl. The other girl who started the fight was not punished at all. Then, when my friend tried to come back to school after her suspension was over, Bourgeois had already typed up a drop-out form for her, and forced her to sign it. Now, she has a son and a low pay job, because in today's world, it it hard to find a good job without a diploma.

I will be signing the petition, and with good conscience.

    1. No one can force someone to "sign a drop out form". And if they did, the parents would be up at school. I'm sure your friend told you this to avoid embarrassment of dropping out. This is just another example of kids not taking responsibility for their own actions. Now her failure upon getting in trouble for fighting, dropping out of school and having a low paying job, and probably even having a child is the fault of her principal.
For your first paragraph, there are reasons behind each of these decisions these principals must make. Funding is one. What the governments mandate is another. I can promise you as a young person you cannot see the justification behind these decisions and the principals aren't going to stop and explain it to each student.

  19. I do like Dr. B. as an administrator. I do know she loves her school and students. I was, and still am, very disappointed at the way she handled some of the coaches when she first arrived but I know that she is just a strict leader. That's fine. Bullying has always been around. It's just as bad now. It's no worse at Parkway than any other school. Years ago someone could whoop those bullies after school and teach a lesson but you can't do that anymore. The kids are so coddled. Lawsuits are everywhere. From my real life experiences (Im sure there are others but) most people who despise Dr B. had kids or themselves with behavior problems and don't like anyone saying anything to their babies!! That is a big part of what is wrong! My kids loved her when they were there....but besides maybe detention for tardies or uniforms they were good students. I wasn't running up to the school throwing fits for someone getting on to them! I let them take their lumps and embarrassments.
Depression is sad and a horrible illness...but I have been around that school at different functions and had my kids go through PHS while she was there and I have never heard of her "humiliating" any kids in front of people. She runs a tight ship and has to as a woman at a high school. We've got to go back to letting our kids learn about life and consequences. Toughen up and be responsible for your actions. Too bad these bullies can't have their butts kicked at lunch break like back in the old days. Parents please stop babying your kids! You're only hurting them. I support Dr. B!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh and let me add....and I know this happens at the other high schools just as well....I hear lots of kids and parents complaining about programs or trips she has gotten rid of. But we have had cheerleaders smoke weed on trips, band members haze and have sex, wrestlers make videos mocking sex acts....to me this is all just part of being kids...BUT between the parents who don't blame their own kids for this behavior...and then having to watch out for coming lawsuits....can you imagine the principals having to be responsible for every students actions?! Then you having parents blaming her and not letting their babies take any responsibilities?! It's got to be the hardest job in the world .Maybe some people shouldn't judge until they consider that.

  22. One of my children was a student of Nichole Bourgeois's when she was a teacher at Airline. When I told her she had been named principal at Parkway, she was horrified. She had never told me the many different things Ms. Bourgeois had said and done while she was in that class, but began to share a long list of unprofessional behavior and comments. It was obvious that she was a man-hating bully at that time and apparently hasn't changed.

  26. You are correct Jim, forgive me for my failure to use the correct word in regards to guilty or not guilty. I guess the question is did she meet the standard required of her position/ office. If she failed to meet the standard required of her position then she is guilty of not meeting said standards and vice versa of not guilty if a jury or Judge decides she fulfilled her obligations as Principal. My point was and is. The suits have been filed. It's up to a Jury, Judge or an out of court settlement to decide if she failed to perform her duties. She should not be put on trial on this board or the court of public opinion.

She may have broken laws and if so than she can be tried in a court of law. We also have the right to freedom of speech. We can and will call state reps as well as the governor. We can and will share our experiences here, it is our right.
