Saints first win ever was in Shreveport

I had the privilege of being at the first game the New Orleans Saints ever won. It was a pre-season game, so didn’t count officially, but it counted with those who were there!
The St. Louis Cardinals came to Shreveport to play the Saints on August 12, 1967.
It was held at Fair Grounds Stadium, now Independence Stadium, home of the Independence Bowl. It was a good bit smaller 42 years ago.
I was 20 years old at the time and got together with a group of friends to go see this new Louisiana team.
It was a great time and a pretty good party too, before, during and after!
Any of you other oldies out there attend this one?

  1. I WAS THERE! Hey man...my Granddaddy took me, and my brothers and sister to that game.

I was 8 years old, and it was ONE MORE THRILL to see real professional football players in person.

I honestly did not remember whether the Saints won, or lost. I just remember that it was a BIG DEAL at the time.

I wondered if anyone was going to mention that. Thanks for doing it.

  2. Ooooops...I was 7, not 8. I turned 8 a few weeks later...it was pre-season.

  4. Jim, I forgot to mention two other memories from that game.

We stopped by on Schex Drive to pick up my buddy Kevin Roy (if you're REALLY from Bossier, you know the stories of the Roy men...nyuk), and we stopped by Cobb's and picked up about a million chopped beef sandwiches for three dollars.

    Good memories. Really, really good!

  5. Oooops...I didn't mean that the stories of the Roy men were funny at all. The "nyuk" was questioning if you are REALLY from Bossier...nyuk!

Sorry if that came across wrong.
