NWLTPA has videos up from the Republican Women of Bossier's meeting Tuesday night. The candidates for marshal all gave a three minute presentation and then answered questions that were submitted by the members.
There are seven videos. I was particularly interested in the Q & A part and worked on compiling a short video of some excerpts. Unfortunately, the gods of videoland weren't smiling on me and I kept having glitches. You can go to the NWLTPA site on YouTube and watch them in their entirety.

I was appalled by the question asked of Sammy Wyatt in reference to Johnny Wyatt and the use of drugs, alcohol, seatbelts, and speeding. I applaud Sammy Wyatt for his response, and refusal to expound on such a horrendous question. I am ashamed that one of our members in the RWB wrote that question to be asked of a candidate. As Mr. Sammy Wyatt said, we should remember Johnny Wyatt for what he did for our children and the citizens of Bossier City, and not one mistake. Great job Sammy! Shame on the person who wrote that question to be asked!

ReplyDeleteIt is ashamed about the Johnny thing, I know many who clearly state that had it not been for Johnny they would be dead from the same illness that claimed his life.

ReplyDeleteThe way the question was worded was unfortunate, and although I can't speak for whoever submitted the question, I honestly do not believe it was intended as disrespect to Johnny Wyatt, who was rightfully beloved by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
I believe that Bossier Police officers and Sheriff's Office deputies must be drug tested, and perhaps the question was intended to address drug testing equity at the Marshal's Office. But I agree, the question could have been more sensitively worded.
As a truck driver, the government requires that I be tested for drugs and alcohol before employment, on a random basis during employment, and immediately after any accident. Well sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. Every law enforcement officer, indeed every person who is employed by the government in any capacity should be subject to the same drug/alcohol testing. And every candidate for political office should pass such a screening to qualify for the election. If we are going to be taxed so heavily to fight a war on drugs, we should go all out to win it, and we should certainly make good and sure that everyone in the government is on the right side of the war on drugs.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, Mrs. Springer does have a clue what she is talking about! All local governmental entities, including all local law enforcement agencies have a drug and alcohol policy, and random drug and alcohol testing. This also includes all city employees!
ReplyDeleteEveryone at the marshals office including the Marshal is subject to random drug testing.They are also required to take a drug/alcohol test if involved in an accident. No changes are need.

ReplyDeleteIve been in Law Enforcement over 20 years and have never seen anyone over the rank and file take a drug test........EVER! They are all a bunch of drunks.

ReplyDeleteYour right about the "old heads" being drunks. I guess it was allowed back in their day. We have Shane McWilliams now and all that is changing. I for one am glad.
