The Times is reporting that Clifford Chase II, who was arrested for having child porn on his computer when he took it to Best Buy for repairs, was convicted of the triple murder of his parents and his brother in 1974.
Apparently Chase completed his sentence, so there is an argument that he served his time so he should be left alone concerning that case.
There is also an argument that if a convicted triple murderer is living in your neighborhood, you have a right to know it.
I was not able to find a lot of details, but with some research online did find that he was still in prison in 1996, training guide dogs for the blind.
I also found these headlines from The Columbus Dispatch.

Ohio must have some pretty lax laws dealing with dangerous felons. If I recall years ago, when I was working for the police department, we were working a child molestation case where a creep forced a young boy to perform acts on him. When the guy was arrested we found out he had done the same thing in another state, and I seem to call it was Ohio, and that state's parole board allowed him to come to Louisiana and didn't notify this state.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be getting pretty laxed around here too. Go spend a day in Benton and watch the ADAs cut sweetheart deals left and right. They do this because they are part- time. Which means the longer they spend in the courtroom in Benton, the less time they have to spend at their private practice. Defense attorneys known this and they use to their advantage. For some reason though we blame the police when a guy continues to get out of jail over and over just wreak havoc on society. Wake up Bossier or we too wil turn into Shreveport or Ohio
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean "turn into Shreveport"? Bossier is just the part of the Shreveport metro area that is east of the Red River.
ReplyDeleteI say we turn this site into My Ohio and fix this mess.
ReplyDeleteYeah I knew it would all end up being the bossier da office fault that this guy murdered people in Ohio 25 years ago
ReplyDeleteThe Bossier D.A.'S office wasn't responsible for what happened in Ohio, but the rate it's going it soon will be responsible for letting someone go who should have been locked up for life. All for the sake of saving a buck or two to put in the good old boys' slush fund.
ReplyDelete8:36,
ReplyDeleteWow you missed the point completely.
The fact of the matter is that there are to many drug cases being prosecuted all over the country. End the "war on drugs" and we can keep as many killers in jail as we need and not have to pay more taxes.
ReplyDeleteYea, that's what I want. A bunch of drug addicts running free. Great logic.
ReplyDeleteHave any of you looked into the details of the crime? The circumstances that led up to the tragedy in 1974 in Worthington OH? Does anyone know exactly what was found on his computer or how it got there in the first place? Don't be so quick to judge others without facts. I am a Worthington resident who was around in 1974 and went to school with the Chase Children.
ReplyDeleteI too was a friend of the Chase family and the situation was just tragic! I am glad that Cliff was able to work with dogs in prison. Didn't know he was out, but spending 25 years there could have twisted him even more. So sad.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the status of his child pornography arrest/trial?
ReplyDeleteI do agree that we should be allowed to know of felons in our area. It is not up to us to judge people for their crimes, lifestyles, financial status, etc., however I do feel that we have the right to the knowledge and we should not have to investigate our neighbor to find out about those crimes. Also, as far as the Shreveport dig... come on... Really? I live in Bossier and strongly prefer it, but I grew up in Shreveport. It does seem much safer in Bossier but we are much smaller. As far as the ADA's office.... again no one should judge those offices because you dont see their case loads and you really dont know ALL sides of the story. Bossier Court House is bogged down everyday with ppl coming in to file restraining orders against their son for beating up their dog, etc... I mean come on!!! No wonder we cant keep a better eye on Sex Offenders or get a grip on the "Drug War". It really doesnt matter because its not for you or anyone else to judge. If you dont like the system, do something proactive to help it.
ReplyDeleteCourt case keeps getting delayed for Chase. It appears to be happening on July 3, 2012. Bossier City Parish Court, Case C110044153732818
ReplyDeleteI knew "Whit", Clifford's younger brother. That household was a nightmare. His parents, both physicians, appeared so normal but were not. His Mom was a child psychiatrist...or psychologist...so perhaps not a physican...but that doesn't really matter. I had heard all sorts of horror stories about what they did to their kids but chose to not believe them. Then, one day, I saw Cliff's father pick their dog up and brake his leg with his bare hands because the dog got in his way while he was walking. I never went to their house again. I don't know what it would have been like to have been brought up in that kind of house but...well...we all know what the outcome was.
ReplyDeleteI, too, heard horror stories about Clifford Chase's parents. That they mercilessly tormented their kids as psychological "research" tools, often locking them in their pitch black wine cellar for indefinite periods of time. I also heard that Whit was actually more psychologically damaged (by his insidious parents) than his brother (& murdered by him because he felt he was too far gone). This is a sad story all the way around. I've always felt really sorry for Clifford. I sincerely hope his computer was used & that he did not do this. His parents were well paid monsters.
ReplyDeleteWhit was so talented. I took classes with him at Columbus Jr Theater of the arts. Just before the murders he appeared in the newspaper as the lead actor in his high school musical. I wish I'd had the chance to call and congratulate him. I was totally shocked at the loss of this wonderful boy.
ReplyDeleteI knew the family socially within the Columbus sailing community and was working in the same department at Ohio State as his father at the time of the tragedy. So very sad....
ReplyDeleteI graduated from High School with the older sis Marta, and was away at college when I learned about the murders. Didn't know about the prison release (yeah, WAY too lenient for a triple murder conviction). Just learned of the Bossier City 'event' today
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing I really appreciate this post.

The case started way back.I was a class mate of Clifford from the begining. 1st 2nd grade and 3rd i believe. I saw him get mistreated in the school by people in charge. I saw him thrown down 2 flights of stair, make a break for getting away from the abuser and running away from the 4 room school house in Orono Maine. I watch them place a dog collar on him because he was getting hurt in a fight and had to bite at the guy he was loosing the fight with. The statement was made, If you want to act like a dog and bite then you will be treated like a dog. He had to stand by the adult in the play ground with a collar on and a dog leash hooked to it. The kids made fun and teased him. I cried because he was my friend and he also was BRILLIANT as a student. It was hopeless for him to get a break and due to the the admin always going after him he was angry allot. He was very guarded about his little brother Whit. concerned about his safty as well as where he was. I have never forgot about him and was shocked when I saw what had happen to him. A person bends so far the SNAP! Enough is enough. I pray for him, I ask God to forgive and understand. I feel God knows and it is a shame he was lost in the system. Then again, the system in my oppion really rots.
ReplyDeleteHis parents were Ohio State University "psych" types & used their boys as test subjects. They used to lock their boys in their pitch black wine cellar when they were still children & it destroyed BOTH of them.
ReplyDeleteClifford killed his parents because they were sadists. He killed his brother, because he was too far gone to function in normal society.
