  1. Great job Julian! We look forward to having you serve as sheriff.

  2. I agree, Julian will do a good job. I think Mcconnell & Matlock are good people, but Julian will win.

  3. I guess I wont vote this time around since there aren't any Democrats running.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Lord knows we want our chief law enforcement officer and tax collector to be a Democrat

  5. I'm just saying, Democrats don't have many options this time around. Most races are Republicans against Republicans.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's because they are all Democrats who switched to Republican because all the cool kids are doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I mean for Sheriff, Lieutenant Governor, Senate, Secretary of State, Tax Assessor, Police Jury -- All of those races have no democrats that I can vote for. The Governor race has democrats but none of them will actually win. So yeah I guess I'll just sit out this election until the Louisiana Democratic Party decides to actually field candidates.

  8. Julian is your man. He will spend, spend, spend, just like his cousin Larry. That's what he was taught to do. I thought when you retired you had to turn your uniforms back in to the department. Some feud huh? Just wondering how he was wearing a uniform in the commercial if he is retired.

  9. Looking forward to serving with this man! Solid candidate for Sheriff and well deserving of the position. Those that know him best, know that positive change is coming. Less spending, equal wages, and same standard of protection for residents. I commend McConnell for his efforts, he is a great lawman. I truly hope he gets back into the business of serving and protecting. As for Mr. Matlock, your a fine person and you've served this community admirably. I wish you well in your retirement!

  10. Good Luck Julian!! I want YOU to be my next Sheriff!!

The Times reported today that Julian is the only candidate that still works for the sheriff's department. That's how he kept the uniform and was able to use the office space to shoot his commercial. What a Liar! He has already begun to be a politician.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Julian is retired and not working for the S.O. The times was wrong... What a shocker! Don't believe me, due some due dilligence! You know what that is?

In other words, get off that thing you are sitting on, drive to Benton, go to the Sheriff's Office and ask to speak with Julian Whittington. Don't just accept that, ask to see an employment roster which list all employees of the S.O.

You will not do that because all you want to do is complain, and accept what people say instead of conducting your own research! You must be one of mini me's two friends!

  13. So, if Whittington isnt working for the SO, but is in a commercial in a SO uniform . . . that would be false advertising!

    Bwahahahahahahah! That's a good one!

One more way to sham the voters!

  14. How come Ol' Whit didnt say anything on his commercial like Mac? Does he sttttutter? or have a squeeky voice . . . squeek . . . squeek . . . squeek . . . .

    Bwahahahahahahahahah!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh, I got it! The less he says, the less he can be held accountable for concerning false campaign promises! Geez, why didn't I think of that sooner!

    Bwahahahahahahahahah!

  16. The only thing he promised was to keep the DARE program. Thanks Julian. Your going to make a great "yes man" sheriff. Very informative commercial by the way. It basically told me nothing. Money well spent. Just like cousin Larry.

  17. Why is it that this site hates the winners? Maybe all of the other voters are wrong and this is a nest of crazy people that don't have the guts to run for office. Maybe they are afraid to find out what people think of them. Probably so....

  18. Just for the people wondering about Julian Whittington being in uniform in his commercial, that is file footage when he was employed with the Sheriif Department, not now there is nothing wrong with him using file footage.

    ReplyDelete
  19. FILE FOOTAGE FROM WHAT??? HE'S NEVER DONE ANYTHING TO HAVE FOOTAGE OF!

  20. He was incharge of the DARE program and he did Public Relation work there go file news footage.

Well, you could ask Mr. McConnell where he got the deputies uniform and Sheriff's unit to take the picture he posted while running for Sheriff! Know this, I know the answer.

How is it that you have to jump on Mr. Whittington and not Mr. McConnell for doing the same!

Mr. McConnell, will you let this type of strategy to continue?

  22. Anon 7:51 and 8:55:

That may be, but when he was in cahrge of DARE and did public relation work there, he wasn't a chief. Check his collar out. That is chief insignia. He didn't make Chief until after his days of DARE and Public Information Officer. Where did you get that info? I'd like to check it out too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I know it's a Chief Insignia and there is nothing to check out. I was just putting a possible answer out there that's all. All agencies do videos for several reasons that the public may never see for training and for future news cast but never were used. That's all I was saying there is nothing to read in to no hidden messages no JFK Conspiracy or Area 51.

"Christ almighty, it's like I'm sittin' here playing cards with my brother's kids or somethin', you nerve-wracking sons-of-b....". hahahahaha What move?

You represented it as though it was fact, that you had seen it under some kind of "news footage" as your second post seems to indicate. Being that I do work here, I've never seen ANY video like that at all for training or any other reason for that matter. This has nothing to do with conspiracy theories. Whether Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK or not is irrevelant. He's still just as dead no matter who killed him, and if there are alien intruders who plan on taking over the earth, they're going to do it whether we have an area 51 or 83 or who cares? You try to cloud the facts by making me out to be a nutjob conspiracy theorist when, in reality, you just had your bluff called and got caught with your pants down. I want to know where the man stands on the issues before I cast my vote for him, and I would hope everyone else would take the time to attempt to vet any candidate before picking who is right for you. It is illegal for him to work here and run for office. If that is what is going on, it should be addressed. I know that's not what is going on though, but I'm pretty sure that those videos weren't made for any other purpose than his campaign. If that's true, then fine, but why is he the only candidate that is granted access to those things since all three of them have worked here. I understand that Sheriff Deen has endorsed him and is backing him, but the fact still remains that I'm not happy with the way that the department is run by Sheriff Deen, and if Julian is going to continue the same policies, I'm not going to support him. This isn't about martians or the guy on the grassy knoll. This is about making the candidates work for our votes. I'm going to question everything about the candiadtes' abilities to do the job the same way that an employer would question any applicant before hiring them. These men are applying for a job. We are the employers and, therefore, the interviewers. If we don't ask questions of them, how in the world are we going to know if we're hiring the right guy?? Would you expect the owner of a business to hire you as his CEO based on the resume that YOU had prepared without ever talking to you about it?? Do you think that they would just "take your word for it"? I certainly wouldn't do that and have never gotten a job without an interview and testing process. Why do people think that this is any different? After the election, we've got them whethter we like them or not. We can't turn back and say, "I sure was wrong about that guy. We better think about bringing someone else in." That would be convenient, but it just doesn't work that way. I'm just trying to learn all that I can about these men before I head down to the polls on Oct. 22, not trying to figure out if Elvis is having lunch with Tupac at the Neverland Ranch with Michael Jackson. . . . What move??

  26. Anonymous 11:48,

Mr. McConnell did use a Deputies uniform to take a photo for his campaign too, so what's the beef?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon October 6, 2011 1:25 PM

There are a number of posters on this blog who posed the question of why Whittington was wearing one in his commercial. The poster I replied to seemed to have an answer for that, so when I asked him where he got his info, just so I could put eyes on it as well in order to form my own opinion, he put it out as though I was a conspiracy theorist and acting irrationally for my question. I chose to reply to his comments for that reason. Quite frankly, the way that they are dressed has no bearing on their abilities as sheriff. I have seen McConnell's photo wearing his uniform also. Its been on his website since day 1. It doesn't seem that anyone has cared too much about it until Julian filmed a commercial in one. Now people are making a stink about it. I think its obvious Julian filmed that footage recently while Mike probably took that photo while he was employed here, but who knows? I only say this because I don't think the sheriff would let McConnell borrow his old uniform back so he can take a couple pictures in it while campaiging against a man that the sheriff has formally endorsed as his successor. I do question if the sheriff is affording Julian special favors that the other candidates aren't receiving, but I didn't have too much of a problem with any of the candidates wearing their former uniforms. The problem I had was when people starting questioning Whittington's reason for still having his uniform, fallacies were posted. When questioned about their merit, I was met with ridiculous comments about me looking for the true JFK assasinators and Area 51 while the poster simply said that they were just offering a scenario, not a fact as they were crawfishing. My beef was with someone who appears to be a Julian supporter not being able to accurately answer questions about him, but portraying to us that they are doing just that. If Whittington would answer his own questions, like McConnell, some of this stuff could easily be quelled, I'm sure. Is this how he is going to address matters with the public as the sheriff?? Let someone else answer for him or just say that he has no comment because it woudn't be in his best interest to answer that particular question?? We don't even hear his voice in his commercial. Why wouldn't he want to take charge and speak for himself about his qualifications for being the next sheriff? If I were running, I would be the first person answering questions and speaking on my own behalf. I think the way he has run his campaign is indicative of how he would run the dept.: very stand-offish, let someone else do it for me, and non- confrontational. That is the reputation that he has here and I see why.

When did it become illegal to work and run for office?

I wasn't aware a person had to step down from their post to seek re-election.

I thought the Hatch Act of 1939 made it illegal for someone who administrates a government agency that is operated solely or partially by federal funding to seek office in a partisan election. At the state level, the Hatch Act states this: covered employees are prohibited from running for office in a partisan election (candidacy in a non-partisan election is permitted),(4) using their official authority to affect the results of an election or nomination, and coercing (directly or indirectly), commanding or advising a state or local employee to make a political contribution. Asking a subordinate to make a political contribution is considered coercion.(5)However, it is important to note that not all political activity covered by state and local employees is prohibited by the Hatch Act. Activities that are permitted for all state and local employees include campaigning for and holding office in a political club or organization, contributing money to political organizations, and attending political fundraising functions.(6) Additionally, any state or local employee may vote in any election, express his or her views on political issues, and campaign for candidates.(7) All of these permitted activities must be conducted in the employee’s capacity as a private citizen, on his or her own time, and not using resources of his or her
    employer.

If he indeed did still work here as a chief deputy, he most certainly would administrate federal grants, therefore disqualifying him from being able to seek office here. Part 7 of the above text would apply to him as it relates to his commercial, also disqualifying him from being able to participate in the election, but only if he were still employed here, which he is not. He did not retire to run, he simply resigned.

That is where I am basing my opinion that it is illegal for him to seek election if he still worked here.

I have no doubt that it will continue to be what it is. I'm not discrediting all deputies here. I'm one of them, for crying out loud. I think there are many outstanding deputies here. I just don't think the department's administration is necessarily outstanding. I'm not even talking about all of them, but definitely some of them.

I'm not crawfishing, pants down or bluffed. You came off as a conspiracy person TOO Me so that's why I said the comments good luck in making your choice.

Thanks for the clarification and, with all the false claims that have been made about this election, I could see where you may think I was another one of the ones that may think Larry Deen knows the whereabouts of Jimmy Hoffa'a body! Yea right! I'm not that big of a nutjob, well maybe a little. . lol! Thanks for the debate and I'll send you a pic of Bigfoot when I catch up with him and the Fouke monster.

  36. Juliannnnnn. Oh Juliannnnn. Has anybody seen or heard from this guy. I got questions and would like some answers. I know you have money but what I would like to know is do you have any changes planned or are you going to maintain the status quo? Nobody seems to know because you seem to be hiding. Is that what cousin Larry told you to do? There are alot of people waitingvto hear from you Julian. It's o.k. don't be scared. McConnell is not scared to answer everyone's questions. Why are you?

    ReplyDelete
  37. What are you going to do about the war wagon? How about the Larry Deen older than God group that is supposed to protect us from terroist attack? How about the club known as the Sherriff's possie which everyone knows that was just another way Larry Deen secured votes. What do they atually do to protect the parish? Will there be any more tax increase meeting where the public does not get to talk? What will be the salary of your secretary? Will it be 100K plus perks? It is very hard for most people to pay their property taxes. Just wondering if the good old boys will continue to draw the big salaries with no job description. Is there a need for the sub station aon the reiver to have Ford King Ranch trucks? Do those $60,000.00 trucks make us safer? Last but not least I want to know how to find out what happens to all the money in Larry Deen war chest since he is not running for re-election. It is my understanding that is supposed to be public information.

  38. Oh, everybody stop it! Can't you tell that Ol' Whit is too busy shakin' hands and kissin' babies to worry with the likes of you wanting your silly ol' questions asked?????

Go to the parish and dial 911. You might get him that way. Or not!

    Bwahahahahahaha!

  39. So what are us deputies supposed to do, I have several questions for Mr Whittington but have no way to know where he stands on these issues. Yes he does have a campaign website with an available email but i do not want to use my email account in fear of retaliation when/if he is elected. Maybe some of the Whittington supporters can shed some light on his views.

What's he going to do about the supervisors that were just handed rank and didn't earn it.

What about not having enogh deputies on evening and midnight shifts with a plentiful number of deputies on days

I think you get the point, it would be nice to know. I'm sure he reads just doesn't comment, maybe you could answer these questions on your website.

Clock is ticking and we would like some answers

  40. You may think the sheriff's office is your own private empire as did Larry Deen, big mistake. The people in Bossier parish are sick of that. Being elected Sheriff does not come with your own private throne. I know I'm voting for the guy who is answering the tuff questions. The citizens of Bossier parish have had it with the same way of doing business.

The guy just explained in a very elementary way about file footage and you have to argue. I bet you argued with your mother and father too didn't you. I know 6th graders who are more mature and less whiney....and by the way, to the guy who made the tombstone comment...that was classic! My sisters kids...hahahahahahahah. That was great. I'm gonna go ahead ang tag my posts with a name so you can differentiate when I'm writing or someone else is. That way you can respond accordingly. I am the guy who has been putting these long posts on here stating facts about BSO that only someone that works here (and is not a good, old boy) could. I'm someone who is looking for equality at my place of employment and this crap isn't it. The things I have posted here are FACT and not "maybes". Why do you think the posters that I have wrote to don't seem to want to repsond disputing anything about the way this place is run?? Let me me clue you in, because it's true! I havem't posted anything since my comments responding to the guy who clarified his origianl post apologizing for being vague when he meant to say that "it could have been" file footage. I responded to him by thanking him for clarification, cracking a joke with him, and thought we were done, but here YOU go.

Why is it that all you Julian Whittington fans can do is attack McConnell for being short, shaving his head, or some other trivial crap. Noone says anything about his stance on the the issues at hand.

Regarding your comments about getting a job at Wal-Mart, that is one of the most famous quotes of the NLCJA cacdemy staff,"Wal-Mart is always hiring.", implying that none of us goofy, uneducated, little old deputies could get a job anywhere but Wal-Mart or BSO. If you think that the only place we could work is Wal-Mart if we didn't work here, then what does that say about your confidence in the BSO Personnel Dept?? Have ya'll thought of how stupid you look by saying that the deputies that work here at BSO aren't competent enough to work anywhere but Wal-Mart as a door greeter if the sheriff hadn't felt pity for us and gave us a job here??

"Probably some democrat loving leftist anti gun, life, all new world order guy...aka (the Bossier Patriot)"

I can also asuure you that I absolutely love the gun I carry on my right hip everyday I goto work and don't give a crap about anyone's political agendas on the right or left or wherever they care to stand. I AM concerned with everyday, real world issues that I face at at my work on a daily basis. This is one time that I actually the opportunity to voice my thoughts and maybe make some sort of an impact on who my next boss is. Maybe this will help to open the eyes of the deputies and others that are reading this blog and they will actually stand up to what they know is wrong and do something about it. If Julian whould come out and offer explanations to the questions being posed to him regarding his ideas and plans, at least I could CHOOSE to disagree or agree, but that wouldn't fit around here would it?? We don't get the opportunity of free choice here to make our own decisions, even regarding some of our personal beliefs. Either go along or move along. . . . right?? This is a good job and has the potential to be a great department, but it never will be as long as nepotism and political agendas run it.

  46. How is it that Whittington is going to win by a landslide if he is not directly talking to people? Especially the current deputies. I would like to hear something from his side besides the video posted on nwlatp.com. where all he says in that video is how he'll abolish the Undersheriff position and that he doesn't think any crimes happen at night while everyone is at home asleep. He also said that he doesn't know how many graveyard deputies are on the road. Well to answer that because I am sure most of you don't know but SIX is a full shift protecting you while you sleep. Please don't misunderstand me I am undecided. If you have positive ideas lets hear them.

  47. Julian Whittington,
Since you seem to us it as resume' material I'll ask you this. (of course I dont plan on getting an answer). You say you graduated from the F.B.I academy. So my question is what did use the knowledge you gained from this experience? What were trained to do? You ran the DARE program and a jail. What was the purpose of going to the F.B.I academy and much did it cost the taxpayers.
Let's get it out in the open. I'm a law enforcement officer and the only reason you got to attend was because cousin Larry afforded you that privilege. Nothing more or less. How many other deputies that were not Larry Deen's hand picked minions got to attend the F.B.I academy? You saying you graduated the F.B.I academy is more proof that you have earned nothing. You were given job, ranks, and priviledges because of you cousin Larry. Now you hide and expect the public to give you the election. Your a disaster waiting to happen. I for one can't wait.

In two weeks we will have the election. Mr. Whittington, you have been on the campaign trail since last winter. When will you tell me what your plans are for my taxes and my parish??? Your silence is unsettling. If you decide that now is the best time to come out with your thoughts, it may be a little too little and a little too late. Dammit, man, speak up!

  50. Regular Guy,

The Walmart line hit close to home. When I was a deputy they would tell us if we weren't happy they had a stack of applications from people who wanted our jobs. I finally had enough and let one of those applicants have mine. It was just too crazy up there. Nothing made sense. Everything we did or didn't do was for the benefit of the sheriff's political standing. Folks would be blown away if they knew about the waste and the privileges given to many who have very little to offer the taxpayers in return for their law enforcement dollar (but that's another story for another day).

I have spoke with Julian a few times during the campaign, and I am encouraged. When Deen took over he realized he would have to make being sheriff his career. Whittington will need two, maybe three terms, to make his, so hopefully he will concentrate more on a well-organized and efficient department and less on political strategy to be sheriff for "way too long."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Come on whittington we want to know what's going to happen to our future (deputies and citizens). What's your problem, why can't we know your plans. Should we just gamble our vote and choose you and hope you do the right thing

    ReplyDelete
  52. The politics will never be taken out of the sheriff's offices in this state, so I think we are just stuck with the status quo.

In a luncheon I once heard a popular sheriff of a large department criticize all of his "feel good" programs that he admitted did nothing for the safety of the citizens of his parish, then that very night he was doing a news interview touting all of his "feel good" programs.

That's what you get when you have politicians running law enforcement agencies.

    ReplyDelete
  53. For Pete's sake what is J.W. going to do besides move into the courthouse. Don't we as the ones giving him a job deserve to know.

    ReplyDelete
  54. How much money does the sheriff make from the jails? How are the contracts awarded to vendors that they buy from? Why does it cost so much for an immate to make a phone call? Does Jerry Juneau get all that money or does a portion go to the sheriff's office? Who gets the money from the work release program? Best I can figure the sheriff's office is a money making machine. Taxes, jails, inmates, work release, phone calls, jail stores, etc...... So why cann't they lower our taxes? Big money is being paid on salaries for just clerical positions. This office needs a good cleaning... I'm not sure who to vote for. No one is giving us answers. We are talking about major bucks being spent. I am so tired of the good old boys system.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I want to see a budget and a plan for the money paid to the parish. The sheriff's office is accountable for all the parish taxes paid, money made from the housing of inmates, work release programs, phone calls made by inmates, store in the jail. Does Jerry Juneau get to keep that money or how is it divided? How are the vendor contracts awarded? Will the big salaries still be paid for clerical positions? This type of good old boy way of doing business has got to stop. Who ever heard of secretaries and a deputy who is the parish photographer making over $100,000 a month. Since this is true why cann't our property taxes be lowered? Then you have the misuse of funds for that so called war wagon and all those parish sub stations. This parish's new sheriff needs to be held accountable since it is obvious Larry Deen was not. Please chose who you are going to cast your vote for very carefully.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Good post 7:41, but the high salaries are not just limited to clerical and secretaries. From the outside looking in the department is rank-heavy; with a lot of rank comes higher salaries. And there are many clerical and non-law enforcement deputies who are given cars to drive back and forth to work at taxpayer expense. There are even a few part-time employees who have cars assigned to them. Truly a waste of taxpayer monies.

And what about that cabin cruiser that the department has on the Red River? Does that keep us safer in the parish? How much does it cost the taxpayers to run and maintain that beast, not to mention the salaries to the deputies to operate it and that big building to house it.

As far as the secretary making 100K plus per year, what baffles me is no one has asked why. My favorite line from THE GODFATHER . . . "keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

    ReplyDelete
  57. Who is the sheriff accountable to?
