Duke Lowrie receives major endorsements from Business, Oil & Gas Groups

NORTHPAC, one of the political action arms of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), has endorsed Duke Lowrie for District 8 Representative.
The PAC, which represents business interests across North Louisiana, also sent a $2,500 contribution to Lowrie’s campaign.
LOGPAC, the political action committee for the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association, has also endorsed Lowrie. LOGPAC, in their endorsement letter, said that “the business climate is constantly changing and the oil & gas industry is a constant target for lawsuits, environmentalists and politicians looking to make a name for themselves and to bring down the industry. LOGPAC believes you have the ability and desire to stand up against those who wish to do harm and that you will provide support to our industry in your district, parish and state.” With the Haynesville Shale action, the oil and gas business is a major economic force in the area.
Bossier City Firefighters Association Local 1051 has also endorsed Lowrie, who himself is retired from the Bossier City Fire Department.
Both the LABI and the Oil & Gas Association endorsements are big deals. Apparently they looked at the field and decided to go with the person who is actually a businessman and not the lawyer who has tried hard to assume that mantle.

  1. You might say hes already bought and paid for.

  2. You must not know Duke. He is not bought and paid for. He is what you see and hear. He is unlike his opponent who tends to shy away from letting the public know he is a lawyer/want to be career politician.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thats an interesting quote from LOGA I thought they endorsed Jeff. Why have they now endorsed Duke?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thompson says on his website that they did endorse him. I put a link in the body of the blog post to the letter of endorsement of Duke.

    ReplyDelete
  5. As you can see, I added copies of the other endorsement letters also.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Looks like the lawyer just took a punch in the gut from LOGA and Duke.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks Jim for publishing the letters. That was going to make for alot of uncessary confusion.

    ReplyDelete
  8. ok I'm calling BS on Thompson. Just saw a commercial he said he is THE business candidate. He is a lawyer, he doesn't even own a business.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Talk about bought and paid for: Thompson is the choice of those running Bossier (parish and city.) Jane Smith was their lapdog and they want Thompson to be their next one. They're hoping Thompson wins the house seat and Smith wins the senate seat. These people know they can blow smoke rings up Jane's wazoo and she'd do a tap dance for them, and Thompson would too.

I will agree with you. Anyone that knows Duke knows that he says what he means and does what he says. I rest assured that Duke Lowrie has not been bought and paid for. He has put himself in this position through a lot of hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't think you can claim a lawyer is not a businessman. An independent lawyer is the definition of a businessman by having to get clients, pay staff, pay bills, and all the other costs associated with it. On the other hand, a fireman is the definition of a public employee, a government employeee. Apparently Duke has a crawfish farm and his wife runs a mortgage business, but claiming thompson is not a businessman on its own merit is not accurate whereas the other candidate has been a governement employee for most of his working life.

I will give Duke credit for what seems like he is outworking his opponent on the campaign

    ReplyDelete
  13. LOGA probably endorsed and paid for both candidates like any good corporate bagman.

Lowrie doesnt seem to have a problem with talking about his experience why does Thompson not talk about it. He has littered my mailbox with "I'm the business candidate in this race." yet he never disclosed he is a stinking lawyer. To be perfectly honest I feel he has attempted to hide it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Calling Lowrie a business man is Orwell doublespeak. He was clearly a public employee the majority of his life. I agree with anon at 9:03 Thompson is the clear business candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Question to ponder? Are we voting for some one to run a business in Baton Rouge or to be our public servant in Baton Rouge and do the right thing for the citizens and taxpayers. Seems like Duke has had the interest of the public for many years prior to running for office.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Calling Thompson a business man is as well. He clearly was a trial lawyer the majority of his life. I agree with 1041 he has tried to hide it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. we need someone to stick up for the land owners/mineral owners. these pac endorsement are clearly against in interest of the citizens. Who is going to stick up for the landowner?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm sorry, but someone seriously needs to relook at this race. Duke was a public servant - a fireman and paramedic. Have people forgotten what they do? SAVE LIVES not take advantage of them. Secondly, Duke has at least been forthcoming with his professions. Out of the 100 mailers and ads Thompson has put out, not one of them mention his business is being a TRIAL LAWYER! Why not be honest and forthcoming on that unless you are trying to hide it? If you have a chosen profession why not be proud of it unless you aren't proud of what you do. If Thompson can't openly defend himself, why would any of us vote for him?

    ReplyDelete
  20. "Can't claim a lawyer isn't a businessman?" Um... yes, in comparison we can. If Duke owns four businesses to Thompson's one, Duke wins. Additionally, Duke tells us what his businesses are, Thompson apparently purposefully omits his. Conclusions are simple in this one, Duke has substance and Thompson gives us lawyer speak.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Let's not forget Jeff Thompson had "other" people place fliers on peoples doors saying "sorry I missed you". Hell yea you missed me. He wasn't even there to begin with. That's what I have a problem with. Duke walked my neighborhood. I actually spoke to him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Duke walked my neighborhood too. He personally knocked on my door and spent a good amount of time listening to me. Other than a letter saying he was sorry he missed me, I haven't seen Jeff any where near my door.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I met Mr. Lowrie and was very impressed. I have seen Thompsons TV ads and am very UNimpressed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anon 5:38

Of course you're unimpressed with Thompson. Any of his commercials could be run anywhere in the country and still apply. If you look at most of his issues, they have little to do with the job of state rep. In fact, I think he is still running for congress against Fleming.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Duke,

You have disappointed me with the mudslinging poster that I received in the mail today. I was going to vote for you but not now. Why do politicians belive they have to sling mud. I am disappointed in you. I thought you were better than that!

    ReplyDelete
  26. It seems to me if Jeff is unwilling to tell the public who he really is, who's responsibility is it?

I believe it is duke. Having received his mailer as well I can say it wasn't mud at all, simply the facts that Jeff will not disclose.

The mud in this race is Jeff trying to make people think he came to their door when he was never ever gonna knock on their door. Oh and let's not forget about the old glory letters.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Duke will lose! Thompson beats him 2-1.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You're dreaming. If it is 2-1 it will be in Duke's favor. More like 52-48 Duke.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Duke is going to be beat worse than Jimmy Hall on the My Bossier blog!!! blahahahahahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think so, Duke is running FOR District 8 while Jeff is running AGAINST Barack Obama. Jeff may think that's a safe move (along with running away from being a lawyer), but it is a little too transparent for the voters.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If Duke is so popular why is he having to finance his own race? He has raised very little money! Most of his campaign funds have been from his own pocket.

I have spoke with many, many people about this race. Everytime, I am told that Duke was a radical on the Fire Department, unruley, and a hot head. If that is true, that is the last thing we need in Baton Rouge. Our state has enough problems without electing another politician who is all about themselves.

My vote goes to Mr. Thompson.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If you think someone who would speak truth to authority is a hothead, that is EXACTLY what we need in Baton Rouge.

    ReplyDelete
  33. A radical how? You mean he wanted the bosses to follow the rules everyone else had to follow? This going along just to get along is why we are where we are. It's why the current politicians spend money and do some ofvthe outrageous things they do now. Jeff Thompson is more of the same. Go Duke

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was a firefighter who worked with duke and I hope the truth about what took place at bcfd does come out. Duke was the only man who stood up and I respect him for it always.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lets be honest. they are both businessmen. You could say Duke financed any business he ran/owned while a fireman or after with public $ since he recieved his publicpay/benefits/retirement that surely helped or enabled him to run his business. As far as I can tell all firemen are businessmen (lots of builders, lawnservices, contractors etc.. either current firemen or retired on the public's dime much earlier than anyone else gets too. As far as I know, Jeff runs his business without any other public $. But, if you think that way, you could claim his whole business is about taking insurance companies $. This "businessman" issue is really just a lot of bunk- depending on your idealogies you have a basis to rail against either one as a "businessman"

I'm pretty sure that duke doesnt draw a pension he is to young.

    ReplyDelete
  37. before throwing stones at thompson, reseach who he represents. He represents local businesses and families. A trial lawyer would NEVER be elected as Chamber president. That would be a coup. Jeff served as president and did a great job.

Jeff wins 62-38. Calling Jeff a trial lawyer to inflame people will only backfire. Everyone knows Jeff is not a trial lawyer.

My research shows Jeff represents businesses. Cheap shot by Duke. Will cost him alot of votes, if he would have lost gracefully, he would have been considered for something else, now not a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  38. How is it a cheap shot to call someone a lawyer if that is what their "business" is? OR, IS BEING A LAWYER THAT BAD OF A PROFESSION? None of you are asking why Jeff Thompson has avoided telling voters what his "business" really is. If you aren't going to be straight with voters, don't expect them to vote for you.

    ReplyDelete
  39. If you engage in litigation, as Thompson does, you can rightfully be called a 'trial lawyer'. There is no disgrace in it, so why hide from it?

    ReplyDelete
  40. David Duke and Duke Lowrie. Sounds cool. I have not voted for a Duke since I voted for Former State Representative David Duke for Gov., so I guess I will vote for future State Representative Duke Lowrie. I like them both. They appear to have a lot of the same ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's a weak stretch there . .

    ReplyDelete
  42. You've got to be kidding me. Really? Someone went there? Gee Duke has a same name... By that logic Jeff Davis - Jeff Thompson... Gee, same ideas as the head of the Confederacy??? How can people post such stupidity??? What, is someone going to use the "hitler" argument next?

Look, both Thompson and Lowrie make the same claims in this race. Both support less government, lower taxes and want to bring jobs back to Louisiana. The difference is that Thompson claims to be a business candidate yet won't tell us what his business is. He claims he "missed us" when he and his campaign were walking the neighborhood, but none of us have seen him at our door.

On the other hand, Duke was a firefighter for 20 years and owns four businesses. According to reports, he has personally hit 5000 doors walking during one of the hottest summers on record.

I appreciate some caring about their candidate, but let's get rid of ridiculous personal attacks and get down to REAL issues.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wait! Duke's real name is Michael! Wow, that's the same name as Michael Moore! The next thing we are going to see are his opponents trying to convince us that Duke is a Cuba loving, Wallstreet hating, Hollywood parasite!

Watch out Duke! It looks like they've got some "REAL" ammunition against you! LOL! What a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jeff Dahmer, Jeff Thompson - just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 5:37

You didn't research very well. Seems I recall not to long ago seeing personal injury advertisements but then we don't want the public to know the truth do we. Your saint isn't exactly the poster boy that you think. For your information he has been taking cheap shots at duke for months now because he gave me one of his lines about him. In fact I respect duke for calling a spade a spade and making sure the public knows the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  46. we can concede both are businessmen, with thompson having a more "educated" background, but I would rather have a guy that is willing to pound the pavement (duke) and show some enthusiasm while being ethical in office. Someone said duke was seen as radical, maybe that is true, and im kind of thinking at this point in time with everything going on in the US we might just need someone "radical" to shake things up a little bit, makes some waves, and get away from the same old bs thats gotten us into this disaster we call the United States of America.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Duke also has a degree. Being a lawyer certainly doesn't mean your smart. I work with them. As for Duke using his own money. How can a candidate in these hard economic times ask people to continue to give hard earned mooeny. Thompson has the backing of the good ole boy system who controls everything including having money. It is a sad day when money buys our votes and controls our politicians. And the thing about his "nickname" is a low blow. So don't talk about Duke trash talking Jeff "Dahmer", oh excuse me Thompson. One of America's favorite actors, John Wayne was cslled "The Duke". Really, Duke didn't name himself. Where he got the name only his family knows. If it such a issue ask him. At least he will tell you up front.
If a canidate brags about the amount of money in his coffers then he doesn't respect or represent all of his constituents in his district only the ones who have money to give.

    ReplyDelete
  48. just thinking this through, how is walking neighborhoods a transferable skill for being a legislator? Wouldn't it show more legislative skill to bring groups together in their neighborhoods for meetings. I know jeff has done that.

What degree does Duke have? where is it from? I don't see it on his info sheet anywhere?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anon at 1:44 it may be a strange concept to you but some still believe that government belongs to the people and not the insiders.
Jeff is the insider and Duke is not, plain and simple. While Duke was going to them Jeff was seeking to have them come to him. That's the difference between a servant and a master. You may want to review this again as I can understand the concept may be hard to comprehend.

  54. I know how im voting now, The times just endorsed Jeff.

    Duke you got my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I just got Jeff's mailer on Duke claiming he lied. The only mailer I got from Duke about Jeff is the one claiming Jeff's a lawyer. Does anyone know how that's lying?

On the other hand, I got a letter from Jeff claiming he walked my neighborhood. Never saw him.

Looks to me like the dirty politics has begun.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thompson has crossed the line. Is this the professional business man he proposed himself to be. Wow ! Lowery will gain more support from Thompson negative tactics .

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thompson is endorsing Lowery and it didn't cost a dime--- Thompson must have changed his mind because he just committed political suicide!
    Duke were with you

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jeff, your latest attack does nothing to help you. You obviously have to prove you have the inside good ole boy network informing you of Duke's disciplinary action at the fire dept. He wasn't fired. He retired. He stood up to the good ole boys at the city and got punished for it. Us of those that were there know the truth. Duke I'm sure would have gladly given you the info you needed. He is not ashamed of his actions. Tried to expose the wrongdoing that had been going on for years.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I get sick every time I see Jeff Thompson's face on television.
Ever since he called my house and demanded that I removed Duke's sign from my yard, I stopped being a casual Duke supporter and now I am rabid.
I'm sure that bullying works in the legal world. Maybe this is even Jeff bullying as a response to something in his childhood. Either way, it isn't right, I don't appreciate it and I hope... more than anything... the Jeff loses so badly that he never dreams of running for office again.
    BLAH

  71. So, I have been at the LSU game this weekend and I just go home.

Jim, PLEASE do a story about Jeff's sickening mail from either Friday or Saturday (I left early Friday for Baton Rouge, So I am not sure).

Seriously, "VOTER ALERT"... can we say cheeseball? This is HORRIBLE! I am voting for Duke, but I feel like I should offer my professional design skills to Jeff just to save embarrassment for Bossier.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I will be blogging more about this race in the next day or two.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't see that duke has said anything about Jeff not getting those endorsements. As for the louellen case I read it, and it appears to me that this was another one of burchette's outrageous cases. Probably why he wasn't reelected.

It really goes to the point of who will do something to help small business a trial lawyer who feeds on the businesses our a business owner who has been fed upon by them?

    This seems clear to me.
All this is another attempt to, as Jim said, to character assassinate duke.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  82. I will try to get the facts and lay them out in the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Those aren't laws, they are fire department regulations that Chief Halphen alleged were broken.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Quite surprised you'll allow the Anonymous October 10, 2011 6:24 AM comment to stand attacking a deceased judge who is obviously here no longer to defend himself and you take credible yet critical information down. Not surprised however to see Lowrie and his supporters stoop to that level.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I haven't taken down any credible nor critical information, only personal attacks.
As for the comment about Judge Burchett, it isn't that egregious.

    ReplyDelete
  86. But egregious nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  87. No, I don't think it is, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Duke was suspended without pay for violating civil service law. It is public record. Duke is a good guy just made a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  89. He didnt make a mistake, he was standing up for something he knew was right and should be fixed

    ReplyDelete
  90. This is directly related to Dukes claims of endorsements:

Duke sent a press release to media outlets which claimed that LABI and LOGA had withdrawn endorsements from Thompson and given them to him. Not true.

Here is a direct quote from the press release: "LOGA originally endorsed another candidate but have now opted to endorse Duke Lowrie"

    See: http://geauxpolitics.com/2011/10/08/duke-lowrie-misleads-on-endorsements/

    ReplyDelete
  91. Jim:

What Brad Wing LSU punter) did on Saturday was not egregious.

To secretly remove a comment that explained how Judge Dewey Burchett ruled against the Lowries while allowing another commenter to take a pot shot at an honorable man is egregious and shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I didn't 'secretly' remove anything, I think I was pretty open about it. I did allow a post about the Louellen Smith incident, I researched it and answered it. Point was made, no need to rehash it over and over.

    ReplyDelete
  93. From: http://geauxpolitics.com/2011/10/08/duke-lowrie-misleads-on-endorsements/

"When it happened once, one could plausibly claim that maybe it was just an honest mistake. Now that it is a pattern, it seems clear that Lowrie is intentionally trying to mislead voters into thinking he is the only choice of LOGA and LABI. The truth is that both of these organizations co-endorsed candidate Jeff Thompson as well as Lowrie in HD 8, giving both candidates the same stamp of approval and giving both an equivalent contribution. In other words, they did not make a choice between the two in the HD 8 race."

"There is no polite way to say it: the statement in Lowrie’s press release is a flat out distortion. If this candidate will not adhere to basic standards of honesty on the campaign trail, what should we expect from him in Baton Rouge?"

    ReplyDelete
  94. Jim, you have lost your objectivity in this one. You've removed posts less egregious than those that are still up. Compare Oct. 9 at 1026 and 1030 still up vs. post you removed Oct. 10 at 205. You've VERY OBVIOUSLY made your choice. That's ok but don't be a hypocrite and pretend you are being objective in your censorship. You are NOT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Jim I had a lot of confidence in you being objective until you removed the post regarding Lowrie and his wife with the mortgage company blatently not paying an employee. I outlined the case with absolute PURE FACTS, nothing subjective at all. If you disagree with this, please simply state the reason.

People know you have opinions and you are entitled to them. However deciding which posts are worthy of being on your page and exluding material that is FACTUAL about someone who you clearly support (Duke) puts your OWN integrity and perception of being unbiased in total jeopardy.

I would think someone of your intelligence would not stoop to "playing politics" and would keep these posts on a level playing field...in other words they should have some transparency.

Up until today that is how I perceived your commentary, but now its clear to me you are pushing your own agenda.

Im very dissapointed in you Jim. I hope this is not how you are going to handle things in the future. If it is, ultimately you are doing the community a huge diservice-and that is something you will have to live with.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Duke has not said anywhere that he was the only one to get the endorsements. If the fact that he does not mention that Jeff got them also is the standard then Jeff is misleading as well because I don't see him mentioning duke having received the endorsements in his ads. But this is a double standard and an attempt to mislead and distract.

And since we are talking about misleading how about that misrepresentation by Jeff saying he is A rated by the NRA when he is not. You neglect to notice or say a word about that. But then only one candidate resorts to name calling in this race.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Duke will lose! Two weeks left.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jim, thank you for proving to me you are a complete fraud!. You are clearly removing posts that reveal the truth about Duke. I didnt realize you were the bitch of a short bald hot head.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Duke claims on his billboards he is the REAL Conservative Republican. Does this mean he is a right wing conservative Republican, or is he implying Thompson is a Democrat disguised as a Republican? Sounds like another one of Duke's misleading ad campaigns.

Just what we need, another politician that misleads the public.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Was Duke Lowrie a member of the KKK? This is not a slanderous statement that should be removed, Jim. It is a legitimate question that quite frankly ought to be answered if someone is asking for my vote, saying what a great public servant they will be and offering their truthfulness and veracity to me as a reason for voting for him. I don't want haters and mean spirited people repesenting me and, therefore, i want to know if Duke was EVER a memeber of the Ku Klux Klan?

    ReplyDelete
  101. if he was he wouldnt admit it, and if he was there would be no way to prove it really, so not sure where this could ever go

    ReplyDelete
  102. I have decided to allow all of these comments to stand since they reflect the mud-slinging style that the Thompson campaign has adopted. Just as the flyer that he mailed out is turning people against him, rather than helping him, these comments will do the same to any undecided readers of My Bossier.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh please! Do you honestly think Duke would run for public office if he had been involved with something like that. He has a brother still working for the Fire Dept. in Bossier City. He is honerable just like his brother. To call Duke racist would be to call his brother that also.Do you think he could still be working there. To call him racist is a far fetched, evil thing to say. If and when the election is over I hope Duke finds out who is attempting to slander him with this accusation and he will sue. He is not and has not ever been a member or the KKK. I hope this puts this to rest Mr. Thompson and your cronies. I thought you professed to be a Christian, (Christ Like). But your actions and your followers don't show it. Stick to the political issues instead of character assasinations, attempts.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I dont think people around here care if someones been in the KKK or not. Heck, David Duke a former grand wizard carried Bossier Parish in a runoff with Edwin Edwards. It might even behoove Lowrie to come forward if he were associated with the KKK.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Jim, I hope you pay little or no attention to the posters who say you have removed facts. I think those posters are a bit touchy. Both candidates as far as I know are good folks. I am so tired of people being cutting to someone just because of some grudge. Hatred is like cancer...it only hurts the person himself. I dont always agree with you, but I do respect your opinion, and more importantly I respect you. You have done much to inform, to expose, and to validate feelings where there is a need. Keep up the good work, and thank you for being you.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Thank you, I appreciate that. And I appreciate the people who come on here to have a discussion. I don't mind hard facts, but personal attacks are not necessary.
    Again, thanks.

  107. Jim,
Thank you for being a calm voice in the storm. It is ridiculous and sad to see some feel the need to go to such lengths at ad hominems and personal attacks. We've seen it against Duke in this post and in other topics on your blog.

As for the race itself. After receiving Thompson's attack on Duke I wanted to go out and vote as soon as Early Voting opened up. I wasn't able to do so, but was able to get my ballot cast in the end. Early voting is easy and quick. In fact, I think it is quicker than on election day. I encourage all Lowrie supporters to get out now, go to the courthouse and cast your ballots. Get your friends to vote too. Blogging is nice, but voting matters more.

  108. Wow! People, get a grip. I will say this again, Duke and Jeff are both good people. I do not believe those who are putting negative comments on this site about either party is from the others party. Poking fun at all candidates is one thing, making racial accusations is completely wrong. I know Jeff and Duke personally and I don't see either one of them making or allowing anyone from their campaign to make these type of accusations.

    This is absolutely horrible.

  109. Just because there are two people in a race does not mean one or the other is a criminal or disreputable.

Both Duke and Jeff are very good Christian people.

  110. CO-endorse!!!!! Read the letters again. Duke is CO-endorsed along with Jeff Thompson. Duke has misrepresented the facts! Jim you need to take down this blog point...

  111. The letters say nothing about co-endorsing, and that may indeed be what happened. I have no idea. Why would I want to take this down?

  112. Jim, the Labi letter says co-endorsement but since when did it become the opposing candidates responsibility to advertise for his opposition. I would point out that the oil and gas people did endorse Jeff, early on and then at a later date chose to endorse lowrie. Jeff can call lowrie what he wants but his assertion is not correct.

  113. You're right, it does say co-endorse, I missed that.
