The Shreveport Bossier Tea Party has come out with a statement opposing the sheriff's proposed increase in the property tax millage.
Every Bossier Parish resident appreciates the fine law enforcement afforded by the Sheriff’s Office. Local families are struggling and tightening their belts. It is time our governmental agencies did the same.
The newly-formed Shreveport Bossier Tea Party is strongly opposed to Sheriff Larry Deen’s tax increase. It’s time for Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office to start cutting the budget. With an annual budget of $35 million, there’s bound to be plenty of fat to trim off this piggy.
Last month, Bossier City raised taxes, this month Bossier Parish raises taxes. The Federal Government seems to raise taxes every month. Enough is enough. Our elected officials don’t feel our pain, and with tax increases during a recession and double-digit unemployment, they don’t care. It’s time to say no to higher taxes and say yes to less government spending.

I wondered if the Tea Party would speak on this. I think they made a sane, and respectful statement. But, I do kinda wonder who "they" is.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I think the statement is correct. It just kind of puzzles me to see a statement from a "movement." I'm sure there are a lot of tea partiers that might not mind the increase...may even be in favor of it.
I won't even say that it rubs me the wrong way. It just puzzles me.
We voted on this last month. The Shreveport-Bossier Tea Party probably should have released a statement sooner when they had to chance to sway voter's opinions. Now it just seems like they are crying over spilt milk.
ReplyDeleteI am torn on this issue. In one respect I feel sorry for Sheriff Deen's deputies and his dictatorship ways of running their lives and feel most of them earn every penny they get.... On the other hand I feel that BSO has ALOT of over paid flunkies who serve at the disposal of an insane man and are only there to kiss his a$$ and could care less about the people of Bossier Parish!!

ReplyDeleteState law requires that the tax increase must be announced no sooner than 30 days after the public hearing.
The Shreveport-Bossier Tea Party is a newly formed organization, and is a separate entity from the Red River Tea Party. Three of the members of the Shreveport-Bossier Tea Party coordinating team, including myself, were present at the hearing today. I even said a few words in opposition to the proposed tax increase.
