The X Factor

X Factor Definition: a hard-to-describe influence or quality; an important element with unknown consequences.

Everyone was set for a re-match in the District 5 council race, when at the last hour of the last day of qualifying, the X factor entered the equation, in the person of Mischa Angel.
There wasn't much doubt that Tommy Harvey would give it another go; losing by 2 votes in the special election was just too much to bear, and Larry Hanisee would probably have been surprised if he hadn't. One thing that people in politics don't like is a surprise, and Angel's entrance into the race was a surprise.
I hear that she has some support lined up and this race is now truly up in the air. It will be interesting when the first contribution reports are filed a month before the April 6th election to see who is supporting who. That might give some insight into Angel's decision to enter the race.
Everyone was impressed last time by the clean race that Hanisee and Harvey ran, but with the x factor at work here anything can happen.
Michael Beam is challenging Scott Irwin, and promising openness and availability in District 1. I look for a very clean and straightforward race in this one.
Jeff Free only had to announce for David Jones' seat and is in like flint, as he has no opposition.
The Mayor and the other councilmen all are automatically re-elected without opposition.
Race to watch: District 5, I think everyone was prepared for another nail biter, but a third candidate will definitely make waves. The only bet I will make at this point is that it will go into a runoff that will be decided on May 4th.

  1. How many times has the "x-factor" filed for bankruptcy? When that comes out I'm sure she'll no longer be an "x-factor".

  2. Anon @ 5:28 - not that I doubt your knowledge of this (though I hadn't heard it) - do you really think local politics will even let something like that make much of a wave? honest question - no attacks if it's posed in any way like that.

  3. Health bills, Mr. Harvey

  4. Medical bills? Lots of people have medical bills but don't go bankrupt. Sound like poor planning to me. We have enough poor planners on the council already. Your in-law Larkin is one of them.

    1. J.R. You should really grow up and get to work in a positive way....the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Everyone knows how you operate. You do things to make it look as if someone else did it or said it! In order for you to look good!

  9. Did some research and found out that Mrs. Angel has organized and raised over $300,000 for local charities in the Shreveport bossier area, raised money and participated in the building of five habitat for humanity homes in our area. Thats giving back over half a million to the local community. Looks like a real genuine person to me.

  10. 1:26,
You did some research? Nice try. Either your M. Angel or a relative. Explain your reasons for filing bankruptcy. You don't have money to pay your bills but you have money to campaign? I think thisvdeserves an explanation. And by the way, this isn't Tommy Harvey.

    1. Obviously the last race was a clean race.....only one thing has changed...the "x" factor.....that is where all of the negative mud slinging is coming from! Harvey and Hanisee I must say are both way above the tacticts of the "x" factor and her family!!!!!!!!!

  11. It is a known fact Mrs. Angel was put in the race by Mr. Larkin, they are soon to be in-laws, this will only guarantee Mr. Larkin another vote on any of his pet projects. She will vote how he tells her. I am surprised all councilmen didn't have opposition due to the Coleman settlement, which stinks to high heaven,no wonder the city can't hire policemen, they settle out of court for hugh sums of money, due to Mr. Halls incompetence, he paid a hugh sum to attorney's in Baton Rouge. There should be an investigation.

  12. Thank You 7:40. I've saying that for 4 years now. Jimmy Hall has been doing that for years. He ties up every lawsuit against the city for years only to settle it out of court because he knew all along he couldn't win it. I personally think he gets a kick back from that law firm he uses. The Phillip Vernon matter was a prime example. There was no reason that case should have taken 3 years and go all the way to the La. Supreme Court. Why everyone is so scared of this coward is beyond me.
