Primaries tomorrow

First of all, the special election for Mayor of Benton will be held tomorrow.
Interim Mayor Wayne Cathcart is running for the office along with challengers Patrick Harrington and Ken Shiflett. My prediction is Cathcart.
Rick Santorum is expected to win the Republican presidential primary. If the polls are accurate, Santorum should walk away with 9 more delegates, Romney and Gingrich 9 between them and Ron Paul working for 2.
At this point I think it is a foregone conclusion that Romney will have the nomination. He is halfway there already, and if you look at the remaining primaries he should walk away with the bulk of the delegates.
Whether that will be enough to cinch the nomination remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, for the most part, I'll leave the national stuff to Pat, she's into it!
I'll concentrate on the judge's race that is coming up and on the congressional race if it appears that Dr. Fleming will have an opponent.
In the meantime, we may peek around the corner into next year and look at the Bossier City elections. That one will be interesting.

Expect long lines in Bossier/Shreveport today

Many were there early to avoid the anticipated long lines.

Dixville Notch NH results: Obama

The voters of Dixville Notch, a small unincorporated town in New Hampshire, are known for being the first to report in each presidential election since 1960. The voters gather at midnight in the ballroom of The Balsams resort and cast their ballots. The polls are closed one minutes later, and the results are generally broadcast around the country.
This year, for the second time in history, Dixville Notch voted for the Democrat. In 1968 they supported Hubert Humphrey.

Bossier Clerk ready for election day

After having problems with the reporting system set up by the Secretary of State in the October 4th election, Cindy Johnston said that she anticipates no problems Tuesday evening.
She will, however, be posting results on the clerk’s website so if you have a problem getting Bossier results, you can go there for the latest.
Also please note that the clerk's office is closed to the public November 4th for the election.

Another Irish President?

Yes, I know Bossier and St. Tammany are the only parishes in Louisiana that have more Republicans registered than Democrats.
That's why I love to do this to you.
So here goes, stolen from Grandmère Mimi who stole it from Fran who stole it from God knows where.

McCain & Palin on SNL

If you didn't see Saturday Night Live last night, this stuff is really funny. I don't know that he did himself any favors, it seemed to me that they were almost conceding the election, but maybe that's just me.

Don't Vote!

If you don’t know Justice Ginsberg from Judge Judy, please don’t vote.
If you don’t know who the candidates are and what their beliefs are, please don’t vote.
If you have never read the constitution and don’t understand the powers of each branch, and if you can’t grasp the importance of the separation of powers, then stay home.
If you don’t believe that the protections of the constitution are inviolable, please don’t vote.
Why do we think it is wise to hold massive voter registration drives to enlist ignorant people to vote? They know they have the right, and if they don’t have enough sense to get themselves registered, then why do we think that they will be informed voters?
It’s such a fuzzy, feel-good thing. Every TV anchor in town will be telling you to be sure and get out to vote.
If your reason for voting is that the guy on the tube said you should do it, by all means please don’t vote.
I know people will tell you ‘if you don’t vote, you can’t complain!’.
Ignore them, of course you can gripe. That is one of those rights spelled out in that constitution that you don’t understand.
By the way, if you believe that neither candidate is fit to serve, and if you believe that neither will fulfill the duties incumbent upon the office, then don’t feel that you have to cast a vote.
If the powers of government are indeed derived from the consent of the governed, and if you don’t want either of these people to have that power, then why consent?
Just food for thought.
Watch the videos below, they are enlightening.

Plot to Kill Obama

UPDATE: Feds skeptical about plot
From NBC Investigates
Senior federal officials tell NBC News that the Feds are skeptical about whether there ever was a well-conceived plan to attack Sen. Barack Obama by two alleged neo-Nazi extremists in Tennessee. The officials say that there is no evidence at this early stage of the investigation that the two men, Daniel Cowart and Paul Schlesselman, had ever taken the plan beyond the talking stage.
Federal officials arrested the men Thursday in Tennessee, and unsealed an an arrest complaint about them today.
According to the court documents, Cowart, 18, and Schlesselman, 20, are white supremacists who met on the Internet a month ago and began discussing a violent plot to kill African Americans, including Sen. Obama.
Investigators say the men admitted to discussing "killing 88 people and beheading 14 African Americans." They wanted to generate money for their plot by robbing houses and a local gun dealer, to get weapons for a "killing spree." A law-enforcement official says the two described themselves as Nazis and had swastikas and other Nazi-related symbols painted on their car.
The men were in possession of a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, the complaint states. And they had discussed using a .308 cliber rifle "to facilitate their attempt to assassinate Obama," the document adds.

Bobby in Benton

Governor Jindal held a short Town Hall meeting at the courthouse on Tuesday afternoon; he said a few words, got on the news and had pictures made with a group of students.
It is not his first visit to Bossier's Parish seat and won't be his last. Bossier Parish, after all, is one of only two parishes in the state with more folks registered as Republican rather than Democrat. If you would like to see the registration in each parish here is a link to the Secretary of State's website.
Here are Bossier's numbers:
Total Voters 66,331
Democrat 24,359 36.7%
Republican 25,264 38.1%
Other Party 16,708 25.2%
While I have hardly been a Jindal fan, I believe that John McCain did himself a disservice by picking Sarah Palin over Bobby Jindal as his running mate. Jindal has a much better grasp of the issues and is a better communicator.
Frankly, he comes across as smarter than Sarah Palin.
In any event, he is headed to Iowa next month. Policiticans don't visit Iowa by accident; it is a clear sign that he is looking ahead to 2012 and is starting to develop his prospects.
A lot of blogs and commentators are already mentioning Jindal for President in 2012. Don't look for a Palin/Jindal ticket, however. He isn't going to play second fiddle.

Colin Powell endorses Obama

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for president on Sunday, criticizing his own Republican Party for what he called its narrow focus on irrelevant personal attacks over a serious approach to challenges he called unprecedented.
Powell, who for many years was considered the most likely candidate to become the first African-American president, said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he was not supporting Obama because of his race.
He said he had watched both Obama and his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, for many months and thought “either one of them would be a good president.”

John McCain Addressed ACORN Rally in 2006

"What makes America special is what's in this room tonight."

John McCain recently said that "The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, “must be investigated.”
“No one should corrupt the most precious right we have. That is the right to vote,” he said to applause.
His campaign later issued a statement highlighting Barack Obama’s past legal work for the group, saying “he has a litany of concerning associations that should be fully examined.”

Well, let's examine those associations, as well as McCain's.
Above is a picture of McCain giving a speech at an ACORN rally in Miami in 2006. Below is a video of the meeting.

George Obama should not be ashamed: Barack should be

Shame on you, Barack Obama

Barack, you who speak so eloquently of education, why don't you help your 26 year old brother obtain an education?
He lives on $1 per month. If it would stretch your budget too far to send him $100 now and again, at least offer to subsidize his education so he can be productive.
Your brother is ashamed of his circumstances; when asked if he is related to you, he answers no. Oh, he is proud of you, he is just ashamed of himself for being destitute. Your father died when he was 6 months old and he has had no advantages in life, and he asks for none.
What kind of man offers no help to a brother who is in such circumstances?

The Italian edition of Vanity Fair said that it had found George Hussein Onyango Obama living in a hut in a ramshackle town of Huruma on the outskirts of Nairobi.
Mr Obama, 26, the youngest of the presidential candidate's half-brothers, spoke for the first time about his life, which could not be more different than that of the Democratic contender.
"No-one knows who I am," he told the magazine, before claiming: "I live here on less than a dollar a month."
According to Italy's Vanity Fair his two metre by three metre shack is decorated with football posters of the Italian football giants AC Milan and Inter, as well as a calendar showing exotic beaches of the world.
Vanity Fair also noted that he had a front page newspaper picture of his famous brother - born of the same father as him, Barack Hussein Obama, but to a different mother, named only as Jael.
He told the magazine: "I live like a recluse, no-one knows I exist."
Embarrassed by his penury, he said that he does not does not mention his famous half-brother in conversation.
"If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed," he said.
For ten years George Obama lived rough. However he now hopes to try to sort his life out by starting a course at a local technical college.
He has only met his famous older brother twice - once when he was just five and the last time in 2006 when Senator Obama was on a tour of East Africa and visited Nairobi.
The Illinois senator mentions his brother in his autobiography, describing him in just one passing paragraph as a "beautiful boy with a rounded head".
Of their second meeting, George Obama said: "It was very brief, we spoke for just a few minutes. It was like meeting a complete stranger."
George added he was no longer in contact with his mother and said:"I have had to learn to live and take what I need.
"Huruma is a tough place, last January during the elections there was rioting and six people were hacked to death. The police don't even arrest you they just shoot you.
"I have seen two of my friends killed. I have scars from defending myself with my fists. I am good with my fists."

Do they Hate Obama?

Just as the Jeremiah Wright issue is quieting down for Barack Obama, Father Michael Pfleger steps into the pulpit to deliver the coup de gras. Obama's ex-pastor made some inflammatory statements that offended a lot of people.
Although his political foes tried to make the most of it, it didn't seem to do major damage to Obama. The Obama campaign realizes that they have a problem with white blue-collar voters, a traditional Democratic constituency and are attempting to address it.
Along comes Roman Catholic Father Pfleger as a guest speaker at Trinity United Church of Christ and delivers a huge gift to the Republican Party. You would assume that Father Pfleger is not a stupid man, and he claims to be an Obama supporter. He cannot be unaware that we live in a YouTube society and that his remarks would be sensationalized. He cannot be unaware that his remarks will be used against Obama. Perhaps he just wants his 15 minutes of fame.
As the old saying goes, with friends like these, you certainly don't need enemies.
UPDATE: Bayou Buzz has an article on this in which they point out that Fr. Pfleger was on Obama's Spiritual Advisory committee.

Coulter will Campaign for Hillary if McCain is nominated

This is too good to pass up; I thought everyone would enjoy this. Ann Coulter gave Sean Hannity the shock of his life last night when she said she would not only vote for Hillary over John McCain, but would actively campaign for her.
