Saturday Roundup

Luttrells not married?
A bizarre twist in an already bizarre story. Ed Walsh at Channel 3 is reporting that the sister of murder victim Ernest Luttrell is claiming that he and wife Loretta were never married. Loretta is one of the three people charged with his murder.

People of the Tea
Bossier School Board Candidate Barbara Rudd knocked on the door of Matt Sciba.  Matt is a coordinator with the Shreveport Bossier Tea Party.  She told Matt that she is in favor of the roll forward in the millage rate that the board is considering.  Needless to say, this didn't sit too well with a Taxed Enough Already organizer.  Matt's reaction?  "A candidate running on tax increases during a recession? Crazy."
Rudd is running against incumbent Lindell Webb.

Rock Solid/Calvary coverage
Meanwhile, back to KTBS, the peanut gallery is loud and boisterous on the Rock Solid/Calvary story. If Rock Solid and Calvary had been forthcoming and open on this by having a meeting with all of the involved parents last week before this story hit the headlines, they could have stopped a lot of this before it started.
KSLA, who was the first local news source to come out with the story, has taken it off their website. As far as I can tell, KTAL never had anything about it on their website. Perhaps they don’t think that the molestation of an eight year-old by a 14 year-old at a local day camp held at a prominent church and the subsequent attempt at stonewalling and coverup is newsworthy. In their minds it doesn’t rank up there with stories such as the lightning strike at the Sonic in Benton, the cancellation of a movie by SPAR and the Robinson film Center and the burning question of seat belts in school buses.
The comments on the story in The Times have degenerated into a name calling exercise between regular commenters. Very little energy is being expended on the issue at hand.

Iguana present you a mystery
Back in April, I did a story on State Senator Buddy Shaw's bill about disclosure to folks who are buying an Iguana.  Suddenly, I am getting viewers from all over the world (Israel, Sweden, UK, Spain, Poland, Guatemala, Australia and the US) viewing that story and I can't figure out from what source.  When I check their referral status in my stats I just get this.

Great Blogging in Northwest Louisiana

I haven’t done a blog roundup in a while, and it is about time. Northwest Louisiana has a number of great blogs with a diversity of opinions.
I’ll start today with Pat Austin over at And so it Goes in Shreveport. It’s a conservative blog, prolific and very well written. Pat has also joined in on a cooperative venture, Potluck, with a few other bloggers from all around the country. Check it out.
Now I have an ulterior motive in picking Pat as my first mention today. For the first time in the history of the world, My Bossier has rated higher than And so it Goes in Shreveport in the weekly influence ratings at Blog Net News. This week I’m tied for 5th Place and Pat is LOWER in the ratings. Of course, in the 12 week rating she is #6 and My Bossier is #12, but I am enjoying my moment of glory! It will probably never happen again. If you aren’t signed up for this site you should give it serious consideration. I believe that they have about 60 or 65 Louisiana blogs and each week they rate the top 20. I hope all of our local bloggers will get on board – even if you consistently beat me. Let’s stand up and make Northwest Louisiana be counted!
My newest blogging bud and fellow Bossier Blogger Andy is a really funny guy. He can be serious too, and writes some really good stuff, but his sense of humor keeps me going.
Chicken Fried Gourmet will make your mouth water every time you click onto the site. Great food and recipes with pictures. It is a real credit to our blogging community.
Along the same lines, Savoring Shreveport does restaurant reviews and does them very well.
These two blogs fill a great niche in the area.
While they feed the body, Darrell helps feed our spiritual side at My God’s been Good.
The Opinionated Catholic deals with both the spiritual and temporal, and does it well.
Donna at Opining Online does just that, and I always enjoy that opining. If you haven’t been reading, then start. You will enjoy it too.
Old Captain Salt has one of the newer blogs, The Captain’s Thoughts. If you share his very conservative (somewhere to the right of Atilla the Hun) views, then read him regularly. He’s a friend and knows I’m just kidding, really – it’s okay!
Alena at The Upside of Downs is another friend and blogs about her sweet Riley. This is a heartwarming read anytime and you always feel better when you leave. That is success in blogging.
I find that I seem to share some of Wheeler’s cynicism of some cultural and political institutions, and I always enjoy reading The Norla Blog. He is very much into cycling, running and physical fitness; we could all learn from his dedication to keeping his body (and mind) in top order.
Our radio guy Todd Nixon of KRMD is very entertaining, after all, that is his day job. The only fault I can find with Todd is that he needs to BLOG MORE. C’mon Todd!
Well, that concludes our little roundup. I want to encourage everyone to keep on blogging, and for those readers who have thought of blogging but haven’t started yet, get with it.

Weekly Blog Roundup 7-25-09

From lots of great pictures from the Global Wildlife Center at Thanks, Katrina to talk about blue dogs and puppy dogs at And So it Goes in Shreveport, the Louisiana blogosphere has been active this week.
“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
That’s from Alex at Alex Cenla’s Rants & Ravings. He also has some great pictures of Alexandria back in the day.
Joshua Delano at Bayou Perspective is blogging about Bobby Jindal’s latest effort to establish his niche as a frontrunner. FYI, Jindal will be on CBS Face the Nation tomorrow.
Darrell at My God’s Been Good is helping all of us to keep our feet on the ground and realize what is really important in life.
Todd is trying to insinuate, in a very meek manner, that his wife should have removed the wallet from his pants before washing. Todd may be doing some washing himself if he isn’t careful.
Louisiana has some great blogs. Take time to read them, you'll find them worthwhile.
Check the right sidebar for the best the state has to offer.

Weekly Blog Roundup 7-18-09

Time for a weekly roundup of the blogosphere.
From And so it Goes in Shreveport, Surprise, surprise – the Senate votes to exclude themselves from the Obama Health Care Plan.
Greg Aymond at Central La. Politics says that it’s time for a public option in healthcare.
Todd agrees with him.
Avman doesn’t think so at the Louisiana Conservative.
Neither does Red Stick Rant.
Alexandyr Kent at Louisiana Movies is blogging about, you guessed it, movies. If you are a movie buff, you don’t need to miss his blog.
Jeff Sadow has some thoughts about Mitch Landrieu’s ambitions and Bobby Jindal’s plans.
Sherri Talley is asking ‘Is it Y’all or Ya’ll?”
Appropriately, her colleague Gerry May is blogging on the death of Walter Cronkite, a giant in his field.
And that’s the way it is . . . .
