Happy Fourth of July
Celebrate the day. Give thanks for what our forefathers established for us in this country, and for the sacrifices made to keep it.
Listen to our official 'national march', The Stars and Stripes Forever, written by John Philip Sousa, who was appropriately enough the leader of the Marine Band.
He wrote the march in 1896 on Christmas day, on a ship headed back to the U.S. after a long European vacation. He said that he was homesick, and was thinking about the flag flying over the White House.

The Star Spangled Banner
Preparing for July 4th, just some facts.
The Star Spangled Banner was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and by President Wilson in 1916, but did not become our National Anthem until 1931. Hail Columbia usually was played at official functions before 1931, as well as My Country ‘Tis of Thee.
Here the National Anthem is performed by “The President’s Own”, the U. S. Marine Band. This is the way it should sound.
When it is sung, it should be sung like this. It is the National Anthem, not a song for various and sundry country, rock, rap & hip hop ‘artists’ to butcher.
Sing this song properly and with respect!

Independence!
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. — And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.
