Judge Bolin to retire

It is not a secret, although I’ve seen no official announcement, that Judge Bruce M. Bolin is retiring from the 26th JDC effective the end of January. Judge Bolin has served since 1991. He also served in the State Legislature from 1979 to 1990.
The governor must call a special election to replace him, in the meantime a temporary appointee will be named by the Supreme Court. Quite often a former judge is chosen, and the person chosen cannot run for the position in the subsequent election.
I don’t know when the special election will be held, but I am hearing that attorneys Mike Nerren and Whit Graves are interested in running.
The next election for judges is in 2014, and word is that Judge Stinson and possibly Judge Robinson will retire at that time.
Stay tuned for more when we get it.

  3. Mike Nerren will be good. I believe Whit's background as a defense attorney will hurt his chances. Whit is a good guy though.

  4. Whit was a state trooper too, that adds some balance. One thing for certain, the DA won't be backing him.

  5. I am sure that it will be another assistant DA who will be annointed to be the next judge and to rubberstamp whatever Marvin wants.

  6. Hope that it want be Larry Deen. That's all we need. It is a crime that no one has investigated the accounting department at the BPSO. I beleive that the employee withholding confusion is not the only wrong doing. What ever happened about the cars that his mama and sister were driving and had to return. I am sure the tax payers would like a full accounting before Whittington takes office.

  7. someone needs to keep tabs on larry Deen,s war chest. Just in case he plans to give it that church he started. another political scam in order to still be in control and have all that money that was donated at his disposal

  8. Whit Graves has a brilliant mind. Not only is he a defense attorney, but his experience also counts as a state trooper and an assistant prosecutor. One cannot get a broader spectrum than that. He is a good man, a good person, and I will be working on his campaign. My best to the BEST!!!!!!!!!

  9. Mike Nerren or Whit Graves? Can't go wrong either way.

  10. This should be very interesting secondary to one of the black assistant DA'S bragging about Marvin telling him "per his statements" that "if he played the game right he might just be the first black judge in Bossier Parish." (DH) This guy hasn't even been out of law school but a few years. This might be Marvin's next ploy to control the judges in BP. A Judge should have the experience of actually practicing law and race should not even be an issue.I think Whit or Mike would be great. To play the race card would really be lowdown and prove what this guy says is true.

  11. Whit is probably a good attorney, but he has the attitude of the grinch. He just is not friendly at all. Mike on the other hand is friendly with a demeanor one can stand. Its that simple for me. As for DH he could never carry bossier. His past will eat him alive.

  12. 8:35, you are either lying or you don't know Whit. I've always found Whit friendly and always willing to get involved in a conversation.
That's not taking anything away from Mike. He too is easy to converse with.

  13. 8:35, or there might be another reason, Whit doesn't like you.

  14. Yeah typical corput juducial system! Be waitng to go to court for over 2 years, now court is upon us and this shitty as judge is once again postponing the date. I'm sure that he is in no hurry! What a joke!

  15. Wasn't Whit Graves suspended from lawyering years ago while he was an asst. DA for lying to the Supreme Court? Or was that someone else?

  16. I still thing Jimmy Hall runs while the cry babies eat donuts.

  17. I don't think Jimmy Hall will run. He's the Boss Hogg of Bossier City. Why would he give up that lucrative gig. He'll be too much in the open ad jugde. Where he is now provides the cover a weasel likes.

  18. Jim,
With a new judge election coming up and all the acrimonious blogs last judge election, who was right and who was wrong? Have you done a mid-term check up on the newest judge "the DA's boy" to see how he has done? Are the "good ole boys" still on the throne.

  19. I think Mr. Schuyler has the overall rule on who the next judge will be dispite who votes. and Yes 9:00... The GOOD OLE BOYS are still on the throne.

  21. I heard that Judge John Slattery might run. I don't know if he will, but he would be a great candidate. As a city judge, former prosecutor, and lawyer, he has the most experience.
