Re-elect Judge Burchett

Judge Dewey Burchett has served the people of Bossier and Webster Parishes from the Bench for the last twenty years. He received a B. S. degree from LSU in Baton Rouge, after which he was a pilot and instructor pilot in the USAF from 1962 to 1967. Following his military service he graduated from LSU Law School.
Judge Burchett served as City Attorney for Bossier City and as Secretary/Attorney for the Bossier Levee Board. He currently teaches seminars on legal subjects to judges, lawyers and law enforcement officers.
Judge Burchett has been married for 41 years to his wife Pat. The Burchetts have two sons and a granddaughter.
In the early 1980’s he traveled to Washington, DC to lobby Congress for funding for the locks and dams on Red River. Although he could have garnered some hefty legal fees for this service, he didn’t charge a dime. Judge Burchett understands public service for what it should be. He is an upstanding individual, an extremely capable Judge, and is deserving of our support to continue in that capacity.
Re-elect Judge Burchett.

  1. I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF BEING A PROSECUTOR, DEFENSE ATTORNEY, PLAINTIFF ATTORNEY AND RESPONDENT ATTORNEY BEFORE JUDGE BURCHETT FOR 20 YEARS. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN PROFESSIONAL, WELL INFORMED AND WELL PREPARED FOR THE CASES BEFORE HIM. IT WILL BE A GREAT LOSS WHEN HE DOES RETIRE AND I HOPE VOTERS WILL KEEP HIM AS JUDGE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

  2. This guy does not care about the truth. He only wants to force you to accept his ridiculous compromises so he doesn't have to hear the case. After the case has been presented, he can't even remember what he is supposed to rule on because of his lack of interest during the case. HE REPRESENTS THE VERY WORST IN OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM AND HAS NO CONCERN FOR THE LIVES HE DAMAGES DURING HIS INCOMPLETE AND INCOHERENT RAMBLING DECISIONS.

    DO NOT VOTE FOR HIM!!!!!!!

  3. I have personally gone in front of this judge in a child support/visitation hearing. He did not care that the child has lived with the Father for over 11 years and the Mother hardly ever sees the child, has not paid anything toward to child’s well being, has not seen any school events or athletics, told the Father to come get the child at a very young age because, “she can’t deal with the child anymore”. Has never had a steady job or home. Has lived with numerous men. The child has seen her in situations that no child should ever see their parents in. He didn’t care that the child feels unsafe when in the presence of the Mother. All he cared about is she had a piece of paper saying the Father owes the Mother x amount of money for child support and she has domicile custody. He didn’t make his judgment fair to the child. Also didn’t make a judgment on all that he was supposed to. He focused on two things only. Money he says the Mother is owed for never being there for her child and visitation with the Mother in an unsafe environment. He never asked the child how she felt. He just demanded that she do this and that. Why should the responsible parent and the child be punished? I will not vote for this Man! You should think twice about it also. I believe in what’s right not what a piece of paper says.

  4. Did anyone else notice that his add doesn't really mention anything that qualifies him to be a judge? What do his church and his military service have to do with the job? This guy doesn't care about any of the issues before him. His only concern is concluding the issue as quickly as he can so it doesn't waste his time. In his other add, he talks about his "judicial temperament". Its more of a "everyone is wasting my time temperament".

  5. It is time to stand up and say enough. Mr. Burchett has been on the bench way too long and no longer cares about the issues or the lives of those involved. Anyone who has known or worked with his opponent, please post up so we can make an informed decision. I'm sure that whatever he has to offer will be better than the status quo.

  6. I've known Judge Burchett's opponent, Michael Craig, for several years. In business, he has always conducted himself in a very professional manner. He seems to be a very honest and decent person. I believe these are attributes we need and want in our elected officials.
    HE'S GOT MY VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. To our anonymous poster, I am sorry for your situation and do feel for you.
It is pretty much a given that any judge is going to incur the wrath of some of the people that he rules against.
I made my decision to support Judge Burchett and to endorse him on this blog for several reasons. The people in the system who work around him speak highly of him and his professional demeanor. I talked to a couple of lawyers who have been before him and they gave him passing marks. (This may not sound like a ringing endorsement, but attorneys are a tough bunch.) Since that time, you can add Mr. Graves' endorsment and that of several more attorneys.
I talked to 4 people in law enforcement who gave him very high marks. They aren't an easy crowd either.
All of that, combined with the fact that I like and respect the man, reinforce my decision.
I don't know Mr. Craig and certainly have nothing against him. At some point I could probably support him for office - but not for this one, and not against this man.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm sure they like him in criminal cases because he tends to lean toward the "guilty until proven innocent" side of things. I've only been in front of him for a civil matter and he was angry and beligerent through the entire process because a pretrial agreement could not be reached. When he finally ruled weeks later, he had left out the most critical issues, so it seems that he either does not care about the truth or can not remember what issues were before him. This is my only experience with our justice system and he is not a guy who needs to be on the bench now. Maybe years ago, but his time has come and gone.

I do not know Mr. Craig, but I do know that now is time for a change.

  9. I work for an attorney in Shreveport. My boss has been treated rudely by Burchett on numerous occasions. He practices all over and I have never heard him be critical of any other Judge

    ReplyDelete
  10. it is common knowledge amongst the legal community that Burchett gets reversed by the appeals court more than any other judge.

    ReplyDelete
  11. the article in the "inquisitor" is what does it for me. Burchett let an admitted child molester go with the absolute minimum sentence. this cannot be tolerated.

  13. The race for Bossier and Webster Parish District Judge is on and the incumbent, Judge Burchett, is long overdue to be replaced. He has demonstrated his lack of concern for determining the truth through his unprovoked ranting and his wandering, incoherent rulings that sometimes fail to even address the issues on which he was to rule. His ads speak of his judicial temperament, when in fact those who have appeared before him see that he is easily agitated and completely put out by having to listen to a case.

Since appearing before him in a civil matter, I have researched his background and found that his behavior in my particular case was not isolated and was in fact quite normal for him. He failed to pay attention to most of the arguments and at times seemed to either be asleep or in a trance. He didn't rule until weeks later, but then failed to address many of the key points in the case.

If you have not seen him in action, all I can say is do some research before casting a ballot for this man. Fairness and justice are not on the top of his priority list and we should all band together to make a change for the better.

  14. Look at Dewey's boy getting on here and defending him as if only one person is posting all this about his dad. I would have never found this little blog had he not sent me a message referencing it, so thanks for bringing me up to speed. DO NOT VOTE FOR DEWEY BURCHETT!!!

He is as out of touch as any individual could be and has no concern for the truth. To all of the anonymous posters, keep up the good work because the truth needs to be spoken so we can make a change for the better.

  20. I hope Ron's facts are straight because that is borderline slander. I do not know Mr. Craig, but I do know that Burchett is an intolerable and angry person with a total disregard for what is happening in the courtroom, at least during civil cases.

  22. Again, I'm not a lawyer. I have been in the courtroom while Burchett was on the bench and "total disregard" is putting it mildly, so slander it is not. I wish I knew the Clint you guys keep wanting me to be so I could let him know to drop in here and defend himself. Ya'll have that same lovely "judicial temperament" that everyone keeps referring to. I'm having a blast with you guys, but keep an eye on your blood pressure.

  30. By the way, I've been checking on Ron's info that all the judges are supporting him. From the inside, the word is that they do so openly just to prevent any trouble, but behind closed doors they know
Burchett needs to go. Along the way, more lawyers confirmed that he is totally unpredictable with his rulings and easily the most overturned judge around.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I talked to my source in the courthouse and she confirms that. all the other judges have been critical of burchett for years saying they wish he would retire and that he just causes problems up there. we need a change

    ReplyDelete
  32. Unfortunately, I can not disclose what I know to be true. Any comments that reflect any of the other judges are supporting Craig is riduculous. Sorry that I can't give you the details but thats just the way it is. How good liars you are though.(Anonymous and Unleashed). All I can say is that your gonna be seeing blue come OCT 4. and you can take that to the bank!!!! And about the part of Judge Burchett being reversed more than any other judge....well its been over 9 years. So you must have the best sources, are there names MR. X and Jon Doe?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I feel I can speak for myself and on behalf of alot of others in the legal community,(having worked in the 26th JDC for many years), when I say it is definitely time for a change.
I've never heard as much criticism about any other judge than I have about the current incumbent seeking to be re-elected.
I'm sure that his "public supporters" also know this to be true. Hopefully they will do what's best for our parishes when they step into the voting booth.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've been hearing rumors about a public official who is, allegedly, working behind the scenes to influence this election in favor of Judge Burchett's opponent. According to the rumor, he is doing this to advance his own agenda and consolidate his own power. As I said, it is just a rumor. If I get solid information on it, I will publish it.
If it is true, I don't know why he doesn't just come out in the open with it. The only thing in the middle of the road are dead skunks and yellow stripes.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ed gave up his credibility by throwing around false accusations, and now he wants to hand out his version of facts. The bulk of the courthouse is ready to see Burchett wave goodbye. As for him being overturned, this page would be overwhelmed if I started posting the Second Circuit's rulings overturning Burchett.

    ReplyDelete
  36. the reversal rate is most telling. If this guy can't make the correct decisions and gets reversed every time, why do we need him? don't we need someone who knows the law?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I researched back to the beginning of 2007. Jeff Cox was reversed 7 times, Judge Self 2 times, Judges Stinson & Bolin 1 time, and Judges Robinson & Burchett 3 times.
Ironically enough, one of Judge Burchetts reversals was Mike Craig's case, where he had ruled in favor of Craig and the Appeals Court overturned it.
Personally, I am not upset over any of these - it goes with the territory. The claims you are making, however, are untrue.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I know both Mike Craig and Judge Burchett. I am sure that Mike would do the job to the best of his abilities, and I think he is a very nice man, BUT, Judge Burchett is not just a judge, but has also been a spokesperson on behalf of the judges and several of the offices in the courthouse at different times. Judge Burchett is very strong in his opinions but this is a good thing because he is not easily influenced by others. I want a judge who makes his own decisions and can't be turned around by others. I would love to see Mike as a judge someday, just not this way. I do think that he has been pushed into this now by someone with the $ to back him and the power to apply some persuasion. . . not naming names. . . Also, I was told that Mike previously stated that he would not run against Judge Burchett, but would show his respect by running for judge when he retired, has anyone else heard this? If it was said, then why run now?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Unleashed, since your sources tell you that Burchett is "easily the most overturned judge around" and we now see that is obviously not the case-thanks to Jim's research, do you think we should value the other information your "sources" are providing? And Clint, you have "been in the courtroom" but you are not a lawyer? Very few men who are not lawyers get the chance to spend quality time watching the judges in an objective manner, unless they work for the DA or maybe the Sheriff ???

    ReplyDelete
  40. "DA or maybe the Sheriff ???"

    That's an interesting thought.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Does it matter who I work for? The fact is, anyone who's talking to people at the courthouse would know that Burchett is not very popular up there. My biggest point is that he is not very attentive in court and that is easily confirmed if any of you ever go in the courtroom. I know of cases where his rulings really don't match up with the questions before the court and it just gives the impression of a lack of concern on his part.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You can go to the Second Circuit's website and look through the cases. Jim missed a few, but I can't do anything about that other than to disagree and recommend that everyone does a little research before casting their ballots. The overturned cases are but a small portion of what is wrong with Burchett staying on the bench. I recommend talking to those who have been before him, even those who win, about his demeanor and attentiveness.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The only thing I missed (or rather did not list)were cases that were amended and affirmed, or cases where the verdict was affirmed and the sentence vacated. I did not list them for any of the judges. I stand by my findings, that Judge Burchett does not have an inordinate number of reversals.
Although you only mentioned it once you did say that he was "easily the most overturned judge around", and I believe that the honor unquestionably goes to Judge Cox. Again, that doesn't bother me. Jeff Cox is a good judge.

    ReplyDelete
  44. you need to check farther back than 2007 for his reversal rate. a westlaw search will show he gets reversed almost half the time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I stumbled across this blog last night after I googled Judge Burchett when I saw a tv ad that he gave a .25 cent fine to guy he found guilty of battery. Surely that is not true! If it is I will most certainly vote for this Mike Craig guy. Does anyone know this?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Could you be more specific as to the exact percentage of reversals? Since almost half could technically be from zero percent to less than 50 percent. That should be rather easy to figure out since you've already done the research. I will tell you this, that if your numbers are correct it would be unprecedented in the justice system at all levels. By the way, I heard that Judge Burchetts opponent has a lengthy civil and criminal record? Not exactly the type of guy you want to be a judge if its true. Maybe Jim could help us out on those fronts considering he knows how to get that type of info. Any such records on Judge Burchett, if any, would also be nice know about.

    ReplyDelete
  47. "a westlaw search will show he gets reversed almost half the time."
Why don't you share those stats with us?

"I saw a tv ad that he gave a .25 cent fine to guy he found guilty of battery."
And you saw this ad where?

"By the way, I heard that Judge Burchetts opponent has a lengthy civil and criminal record?"
I have no knowledge of Mike Craig having any criminal record, and think it highly unlikely that an assistant DA would have.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have an attorney friend that just confirmed it at the courthouse. There were six years of failure to pay state income taxes in which the state had to place a lien on him. There is also a DUI conviction and a failure to pay child support. Check it out for yourself Jim. Unbelievable, and this guy wants to be a judge?????

    ReplyDelete
  49. The recent posted comments from "Anonymous" and "Jim" concerning Michael Craig having a "lengthy civil and criminal record" is the biggest crock of "BS". I checked with the clerk myself and the "lengthy civil" record stems from a divorce/custody/support case with his ex-wife; and a civil suit filed against his previous accountant for tax issues which I am sure is what he had to get sorted out in filing and paying any taxes he owed. And the "lengthy criminal record" stems from a matter twenty years ago as a teenager.
I mean really guys -it seems you are pro Burchett and are really, really, reaching- I guess that is what you do when your fighting a loosing a battle and are desperate.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It looks like the DA's office will hire anyone down there.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Somebody needs to check your courthouse source. I understand that the DUI was when he was 19yrs old in college and that Judge Burchett actually rendered a judgment to dismiss the claim for non payment of child support because guess what? its was always paid.

    ReplyDelete
  52. "The recent posted comments from "Anonymous" and "Jim" concerning Michael Craig having a "lengthy civil and criminal record" is the biggest crock of "BS"."

You can correct that and take my name out of it or I will delete your post.

  53. "The recent posted comments from "Anonymous" and "Jim" concerning Michael Craig having a "lengthy civil and criminal record" is the biggest crock of "BS"."

    To clarify, I said:
"I have no knowledge of Mike Craig having any criminal record, and think it highly unlikely that an assistant DA would have."

Unless you think that is 'the biggest crock of BS', I'll ask you to correct what you said.

    ReplyDelete
  54. All right "Jim" I'll correct my previous comment and quote you correctly now and in the future. Thats if I decide to continue with this banter. Your comment was
"I have no knowledge of Mike Craig having any criminal record, and think it highly unlikely that an assistant DA would have."
I will now make it clear that people need to do their research before posting inaccurate information about parties subject to this important election. It must be quite empowering to be able to delete unfavorable comments.

    ReplyDelete
  55. We have done our research and it shows that Mike Craig is a deadbeat dad, deadbeat taxpayer and has a DUI and aint ever hit a lick at a snake and wants to be judge. Did I mention he went to Southern Law school with the rest of the DA's office because they couldn't get eccepted to LSU!! What a bunch of Rhodes Scholars we have at the DA's office.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Did you mean "accepted" since you are a Rhodes Scholar. I am sure that Mr. Craig would love for you to post your name and contact information since you have made several slanderous comments.

    ReplyDelete
  57. "It must be quite empowering to be able to delete unfavorable comments."

  59. "We have done our research and it shows that Mike Craig is a deadbeat dad, deadbeat taxpayer and has a DUI"

    1. Not a deadbeat dad. If you read the record it will show that is not true.
    2. He has an IRS lien. He also at one time sued a bookkeeper who didn't file his taxes after he gave her all his info. That one can be explained.
    3. I can find no record of a DUI.
    Let's keep it real.

    ReplyDelete
  60. No hostillity Jim.
    Love your blogs.
    It makes may day!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hey anonymous -
There is nothing wrong with going to Southern to get an education.
    Did you get yours?

    ReplyDelete
  62. First of all, I'm not running for Judge. So whether I graduated from Harvard or Southern means absolutely nothing. But what is important are the credentials of the two candidates. I do know this, that those who attend Southern University Law School are either minorities or just simply can't get accepted anywhere else in the state. Its just that simple.

    ReplyDelete
  63. And I never said there was anything wrong with going to Southern to get an education. I mean, I'd rather have a degree from Southern than no degree at all.

    ReplyDelete
  64. This anonymous must have received the same thing I got in the mail today from the Burchett campaign. It does indicate a DUI conviction along tax leins and being sued for child support. Its a pretty powerful letter. Has anyone else gotten one?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I wonder if those posting about where you get your law degree understand that everyone takes the same bar exam to get a law license so why does it matter where the degree came from. I got the mailer and it looked kind of desparate to me. He didn't mention that he was only a prosecutor for about 6 months but he was quick say Craig has been a prosecutor for 3 1/2 years. He failed to mention the DUI 21 yrs ago. He never mentioned what kind of law he practiced before he became a judge. I heard he did title work, does anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  66. True. Everyone does take the same bar exam. Thats typically what someone says when they go to Southern. But you don't see the reputable law firms lining up at the doors for Southern Law Grads do you?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hey anonymous - it seems pretty pathetic that you keep harping on where Mr. Craig received his law degree. Is that all you have?
From what I can tell and hear in the community is that Mr. Craig is running his campaign in a dignified manner, and not throwing aroung untrue slanderous remarks.
You should know voters are turned off by those tactics. You may be hurting his opponent more than helping. Or do you even care?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Lets see, Mayor Kip Holden of Baton Rouge, Former Gov. Mike Foster, Senator Rob Marrioneaux, D.A. Schuyler Marvin all graduated from Southern. Sounds like pretty good company to me.

    ReplyDelete
  69. it is obvious that burchet is desperate. the first rule is politics is don't throw mud unless you are losing. so he must have run a poll and confirmed that

    ReplyDelete
  70. Burchett leads 61-39. I think hes just going for the knockout punch. Negative advertising works. Thats why Mike Craig is doing it as well.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Some of the comments people are leaving are so extreme. Why all the hostility people? Neither of the candidates is perfect nor are they corrupt. What is seems to come down to is some think Burchett is a grouchy old coot who is set in his ways and some think Craig is irresponsible and not running the show on his own. The strong points are that Burchett is generally experienced and respected by the majority who work around him and Craig is a young, capable attorney and well liked in the community. People, voters need to make their decisions based on facts in black and white. All of this ridiculous conjecture and vague finger pointing is tiresome and annoying. If you have something important and factual to say about either of the candidates then back it up. Otherwise said, put up or shut up.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I guess the DA lets his employees openly support candidates? I thought that was a no-no for political offices? I am not trying to be sarcastic, just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Of course he lets them openly support Craig. Hes the underlying force behind all of this. He pushes all of his employees to go to all of Craigs functions. He needs a puppet up there because all of the judges dont bow down to him and put up with any of his crap.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I recently heard about this blog and thought I would see different opinions worth reading. It seems that the majority of the comments made are by people who would rather spout slanderous remarks about the candidates and not give any opinions of real substance or truth. I just hope that the best person for the job gets it. We all know of the latest corruption in Caddo's judicial system. We all can agree we don't want that for our parish.

    ReplyDelete
  75. "I saw a tv ad that he gave a .25 cent fine to guy he found guilty of battery. Surely that is not true!"

No, it's not. He did give a 25 cent fine on one occassion: for hunting in a baited field. He believed the charge was somewhat bogus, from what I understand.
Strange that I can't find that 'tv ad' anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  76. After reading Jim’s comments I became very concerned that this TV ad may be false information. After driving to the courthouse and doing a little research I found that the information given is correct. The docket number is 103,836 Burchett ruled on this Simple Battery charge he could pay 25 cents or spend 30 seconds in jail. Seems that 25 cent fines are not uncommon for this judge-

    ReplyDelete
  77. That does not suprise me at all. I know very few of you get the opportunity to sit in the courtroom, but this guy is constantly put out and agitated. He can't keep up with what is going on in his courtroom and makes random statements that have no relevance to the case. If anything is said that is not in line with his beliefs, he goes off on a tangent rant that is embarrassing to watch. Seeing is believing, but if that isn't an option for you just talk to as many people who have seen him as you possibly can. I honestly think that all of the three or four people that think he is a good judge are posting on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  78. i asked my attorney about burchett and he told me it is time for him to go. He is somewhat of a friend of his but still told me that. I trust my lawyer and will vote for Mike Craig

    ReplyDelete
  79. I see the DA's office is busy at work today.

    ReplyDelete
  80. JUDGE BURCHETT DEFINITELY SHOWS FAVORTISM. HE LIKES HIS MONEY.

Because the only witness, the person who was allegedly battered, refused to testify. Apparently the judge believed something was there and didn't want to dismiss the case.

Also, this 'tv ad' has been mentioned a couple of times, but I checked You Tube and Mr. Craig only has two videos posted, and they do not mention this. If it is a different ad, I'm not going to sit in front of the TV for hours hoping to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. "JUDGE BURCHETT DEFINITELY SHOWS FAVORTISM. HE LIKES HIS MONEY."

    That's despicable.

    ReplyDelete
  83. The question was if a case such as this exists and it does- the question was not why Burchett would make such a questionable ruling.

I have seen it on TV and I am not the one who mentioned it so that is at least two of us.

    ReplyDelete
  84. "The question was if a case such as this exists and it does".

It does, I was unaware of it. I do believe that the 'why' is important.
I still would like to see the ad. Maybe they'll update their You Tube channel (I'm big on You Tube, in case you can't tell).

  88. Hey "Jim",
I was watching the news on KTBS and saw the "25 cents" commercial, hopefully you did too!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hey "anonymous"
No, I've been watching the weather channel. If they ever update their You Tube channel, I'll watch it. Of course, I'm not encouraging that. Judge Burchett's vids on You Tube have over 1400 views while Craig only has barely 400.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I recently got Burchett's campaign mailout. It is the most misleading and untrue piece. I do not understand why a judge that has been on the bench for his amount of time feels it necessary to mislead the public about his opponent. Could it be that he and his campaign committee all know that it is time for him to go?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Mike's team must be out campaigning and knocking on doors while Burchett is working on You Tube.

Jim, there is also another new Craig commerical on TV- Saw it tonight at 5- looked just like the 25 cent add but was about a case in which Burchett let someone who sexually abused a child go without any jail time. Another good one Burchett!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Hey Jim,
You must stay on this blog 24/7! Is this your contribution to the Burchett campaign? Or maybe that's how Burchett has so many hits on YouTube...its really easy to keep punching the play button, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  93. "its really easy to keep punching the play button, huh?"

You've busted me. I've lived for 60+ years, brought up two kids, have six grandchildren to enjoy, but I sit here and play Dewey Burchett videos 24/7. I don't know how I manage to get my work done.

  95. i saw that commercial over the weekend about burchett giving the child molester probation. This is not right. he needs to retire ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I agree- It is time for him to go.

When deciding on who to vote for everyone needs to think what if that was their son, daughter, or grandchild that got raped and Burchett let them go free?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I just saw the commercial about the child molester. What was burchett thinking giving a guy like that probation?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jim, how can anyone support a judge that does that?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Give me a case number or a name and I will research it.

    ReplyDelete
  100. What is there to research?

If you think there is any good reason to give someone to has raped a child NO JAIL TIME then you need as much help as Burchett does.

    ReplyDelete
  101. What is there to research?

Whether or not this is true. There is no way that Judge Burchett released a child rapist without a sentence.
I defy you to show me the case.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Keep your TV on-

The docket number is on the commercial

    ReplyDelete
  103. Distorted truths and smoke and mirrors. Thats what the Craig campaign is all about. Its gonna be a tough 6 years for all the ill-prepared asst. DA's that step into any Bossier/Webster courtroom. Good luck all. And by the way, there will be NO new judgeships. Good night.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Jim, it has never been said that Burchett released a child rapist without a sentence, just that the sentence was probation NO JAIL TIME!! Mabey thats OK in your book but not mine.

    ReplyDelete
  105. "Keep your TV on- The docket number is on the commercial"

You're making the accusations. You keep your TV on, write down the number, and get it to me. Then we'll look at the case and find out what REALLY happened.

    ReplyDelete
  106. the docket nunmber is 72,027 webster parish clerk of court. they will read it to you. it is true. the defendants name is carl dollar.

    ReplyDelete
  107. to the anonymous poster who says that all of craig's supporters better be prepared to get treated differently in the courtroom if burchett wins, this means that burchett will not treat everyone fairly and equally. that is exactly the reason he needs to drop out of this race and retire. that is unethical.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Burchett doesn't care about ethics or the lingering effects of his lackadaisical decisions. If an individual cannot afford an appeal, his off the wall and often incorrect rulings can be devastating. I have read the examples of his bad decisions in criminal cases and have witnessed his lack of concern in civil matters. He represents the very worst of our legal system and lacks the fundamental qualities of a good judge. Let's make a change NOW!!!

    ReplyDelete
  109. The response "that all of craig's SUPPORTERS better be prepared to get treated differently in the courtroom if burchett...". What was written "Its gonna be a tough 6 years for all the ill-prepared asst. DA'S that step into any Bossier/Webster courtroom." Do you see the differences???? You only proved my point....distorted truth=smoke and mirrors. Keep it up, I see why you are considered incompetent. Right out of the courtroom yesterday...DA sais" Judge we can't win this case" Judge said "well thin drop the case" the DA "I can't". Judge "so you want to make me look bad?" DA "not my decision". Its like this every day in Benton and Webster.

    ReplyDelete
  110. i saw in the legal news where burchett's lawyer, john settle, got arrested for another DWI this weekend. can he still practice before him?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I thought this was a judges race? Sounds like someone is trying to create a little "smoke and mirrors" on the wrong issue. Lets stick to the issues at hand - Burchett needs to go!

    ReplyDelete
  112. What legal news did you see this in?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Congrats John Settle, DWI number 2 any chance we will see number 3 and some jail time? Dewey sure knows how to pick em!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I am posting this for my mom she says that if Mike Craig wanted to file a defamation suit he could subponea all of the IP addresses to se the tru identities of those calling him a deadbeat dad etc. I think Ms. Carlson's article (In the Forum Jim Pg 8&10) embarass Dewey's campaign crew Mike Collier the drunk and John Settle the stupid drunk. If that's Dewey's campaign team Robert Adley (yes him) better run for the hills. I like Craig's tag line HAVEN'T WE EXPERIENCED ENOUGH??

    ReplyDelete
  115. I like Marty Carlson and I agree with her on a lot of issues. I hope that she will also address the outrageous attacks on Judge Burchett by the Craig campaign.

  117. IF we're gonna keep hammering that Craig is supposedly a dead beat dad, I feel obliged to tell ya'll about a recent case before Burchett. The mother (plaintiff) gave up a child to the father (defendant) over 10 years ago and recently showed up out of nowhere and filed for back child support. Despite the father and child presenting evidence, medical and school records, that demonstrated she had been with the father and had minimal contact with the mother your less than honorable judge Burchett found it in the best interest of the child to award a absentee mother over 10,000 dollars in back support and force the child to begin visitation. The guy is a total nut case and can't see the forest for all of the trees. Get him outta here!!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Jim, Please describe the outrageous attacks on Burchett. Do you mean bringing to light actual cases supported by case documentation where he was VERY soft on CHILD MOLESTERS, because frankly I haven't seen anything brought out about Burchett's personal life which are common knowledge around north Bossier Parish. Burchett is mudslinging and Craig is stating fact. How is that outrageous.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I am sick and tired of reading these blogs from anonymous stating that Mike Craig is a "deadbeat dad".
You obviously don't know him and what you are talking about. I personally know Mike Craig, his exwife and both of his children since before the children were born. Everyone knows that the statements of him being a dead beat are so FALSE. HOW DARE YOU MAKE SUCH SLANDEROUS REMARKS. IT GETS OLD AFTER A WHILE HEARING THIS FROM YOU. I WISH YOU WOULD POST YOUR NAME SO I WILL NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE AND EXPENSE OF FINDING THIS OUT FOR MYSELF SO YOU CAN BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THIS WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN EVEN AFTER THIS ELECTION IS OVER AND MY FAMILY HAS THE MEANS TO PURSUE IT.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I guess the Burchett camp hates so called dead beat dads, but is okay with dead beat moms. I also heard about the case that anony at 8:33 is speaking of and it is just another of many bad decisions that Burchett has made.

    ReplyDelete
  121. "I also heard about the case that anony at 8:33"

    Unleashed,
Thanks. You gave me a good way to identify anons when I'm answering them!

    ReplyDelete
  122. No problem. I have always just addressed them by post times. If everyone used a name, it would sure be easier.

    ReplyDelete
  123. They probably should. Everyone seems to know who everyone else is anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  124. the .25 cent case in bossier was because the woman who filed the battery charge was trying to start a fight with her husband and kept getting in his face so he sprayed her with the little kitchen sink hose with water. i mean seriously. get ur facts straight before you guys start jumping on him. battery because of a water spray?! please!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Some further research needs to be done in the Webster Parish molestation case. The defendant may have been sentenced after pleading to a lesser charge. People seem to forget that the DA's office, not the judge, sets the sentences on most plea agreements.

    ReplyDelete
  126. i thought judges imposed sentences! I have never read a newspaper article where it said a DA sentenced someone

    ReplyDelete
  127. yeah, judges sentence people, not the da. anyway, it appears that it is true that burchett gave a child rapist probation. he does not deny that he did that and that says it all

    ReplyDelete
  128. I saw his campaign manager in the inquisitor this morning. He is on a roll is that who we want to keep on the bench?

    ReplyDelete
  129. the .25 cent fine case involved a guy who beat his wife with a telephone. it had nothing to do with a water hose. i know the victim in that case.

    ReplyDelete
  130. The desperation of the Craig campaign is relentless. Look at all of the lies these people are telling. Has anyone read the minutes??? Because if you had you wouldn't be telling all of these lies, or wait minute, thats what the Craig campaign is all about. Spreading lies and not stating the facts of the case. I suppose thats the only way they think they can win. And when did John Settle become the campaign manager? Not!! Shoot, I must have missed something. Please go post your BS somewhere else. 25 cents for beating his wife with a telephone is a rediculous lie as well. What happened was a man pulled his wife out of a car when she was intoxicated and trying to drive with his child. Child rapist probation. No, thats not true either. State some facts like, DUI conviction/bait and switch, dosn't pay his taxes, illegal campaign contributions/multiple ethics violations, failure to pay child support-the state had to sue him to collect. These are facts. Another fact worth stating is that Burchett leads in the latest poll done Wednesday 63-37. Too little too late for the political machine and propaganda of the Craig campagin. Its what you call a good Southern butt whippen. Oh and please state where Burchett admitted giving a child rapist probation. Last time I checked he gave a guy in Minden life plus forty.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I got a mailout from Burchett's campaign and it was in a envelope with John Settle's info as the return address. He may not be the manager, but is clearly a big part of the effort to keep a less than deserving man on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT POLL SHOWS A 63-37 LEAD IN FAVOR OF BURCHETT TAKEN WEDNESDAY, WHAT ARE YOU COUNTING THE 20 SIGNS IN ONE FIELD THAT HAS ONE OWNER OR REAL PEOPLE'S OPINIONS?

    ReplyDelete
  133. John Settle isn't his campaign manager but is his attorney. That shows me the kind of bad choices Burchett routinely makes.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Anyone who has ever worked for or had to deal with John Settle knows what kind of person he is. And that is not a compliment!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. HEY ANON:
"DUI conviction/bait and switch, dosn't pay his taxes, illegal campaign contributions/multiple ethics violations, failure to pay child support-the state had to sue him to collect".
CAN'T WAIT TO FIND OUT WHO YOU ARE!

    ReplyDelete
  136. HOW CAN ANYBODY BELIEVE THAT BURCHETT IS AHEAD OF CRAIG AFTER ALL THE CHILD MOLESTERS THAT HE HAS PUT BACK ON THE STREET. I DON'T BELIEVE ANY POLL NUMBERS UNTIL I SEE THE POLL ITSELF AND KNOW WHO TOOK THE POLL. WOULD EITHER CANDIDATE RELEASE TRUE NUMBERS. YOU CAN BET YOUR ASS THAT THE ONE WHO BRAGS MOST ABOUT THE NUMBERS IS THE ONE WHO IS BEHIND

    ReplyDelete
  137. Can't wait to find out who you are to!!

    ReplyDelete
  138. John Settle is not his campaign manager nor his attorney. Yea its the 20 signs in one field by one owner. Thats how polls are done these days. You want to know who I am????? Are you going to kick my butt like Norman Craig is going to. Of course that leaves it wide open cause hes gonna kick everybodys butt. By the way it appears Craig and company are going to have to move there trailor and sign again. Parked it somewhere without permission again. First it was Festervan that had to kick them out of Benton and now Walt Bigby is gonna get it off his lot in Bossier. And Mike Craig wants to be judge???? Evidently they had a good night destroying Judge Burchett's signs last night. Probably Norman himself. Hell, he did the same thing when his wife ran for city council. He was always bragging about how many signs he tore down while having coffee at Averys hardware.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Oh, I work at a local news station and John Settle was just in last week claiming to be Burchetts atty.

    ReplyDelete
  140. THEN SHOW PROOF OF THE POLL

    ReplyDelete
  141. Actually Jim, he has had 2 lately.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I am a law enforcement officer. I have been in the courtroom when Judge Burchett has gone into one of his tantrums, it was an embaressment to everyone in the judicial process. I have nothing personal against Judge Burchett but I think he has become to arragant to judge fairly. I have seen that he rules based on his personal beliefs instaed on the law the way he gives lectures in court. Some people including myself don't really care what he thinks about something.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I'm a law enforcment officer as well and I can tell you theres no other judge I respect more than Judge Burchett. My first experience in a courtroom 16 years ago happened to be in front of him. I do know this, that we better have our things in order before we appear or he will let us hear about it. But I have respect for that, I also spent time in the military and I beleive thats where he gets that from.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Jim, you are publishing things as a friend of the Burchett family does that make your comments unbelievable? John Settle purchased another ad in the Bossier Press about Craig today something about campaign finance and his dad co-signing a loan, hardly sounds sinister to me, buts seems clear he is working at the direction of Burchett and his slimey buddy Mike Collier who is the anon slandering Craig

    ReplyDelete
  145. "Jim, you are publishing things as a friend of the Burchett family"

I only know Judge Burchett from saying hello in the grocery store or in passing, and just met his wife. I have not met his sons, so I don't think that qualifies me as a 'friend of the family.'
I have not met Mike Craig and have nothing against him. I simply believe that Judge Burchett has done a good job and should continue.

    ReplyDelete
  146. " Bossier Press about Craig today something about campaign finance and his dad co-signing a loan, hardly sounds sinister to me"
Thats the problem with the Craig campaign and its supporters, you don't think you have to follow the law. Just because it dosn't sound sinister makes it alright I suppose. Is that the type of reasoning we need on the bench? These laws were written for a reason and the Burchett campaign has followed them meticulously!!

    ReplyDelete
  147. You have to feel a little bit sorry for a person who goes through life with the first name of Norman.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Burchett is a "good ole boy member", and in 2000 or 2001 he did fine a man 25 cents or 5 minutes in jail for battery. He was in the process of divorcing his spouse (the defendent). He knocked his ex-wife to the ground and slammed her cell phone in the cement.

    ReplyDelete
  149. No educated or informed voter could in good conscience cast a ballot for Burchett. He is openly beligerent and known to make decisions that cannot be justified by any legal precedent. I've read the accusations against Mr. Craig, but I'd rather see someone new on the bench that may do a great job than have someone there who has already proven their incompetence.

    ReplyDelete
  150. i have yet to hear from the burchett campaign (or him personally) explain how/why he sentenced a man to probation for raping a 10 year old boy. I have veriifed with the webster parish clerk of court that it is true. What are his reasons? Why would he do that? I personally think the defendant should recieve the death penalty! The public deserves an explanation, don't we?

    ReplyDelete
  151. I agree with the earlier poster. burchett needs to explain that. and don't tell me that the DA office agreed to it because i know that is not true.

    ReplyDelete
  152. By the way, Jim, why did all of Ed Burchett's accusatory comments that were very defamatory and false end up being deleted? I think his rampant lying does bring to light the whole method of operation of the Burchett campaign.

    ReplyDelete
  153. "By the way, Jim, why did all of Ed Burchett's accusatory comments that were very defamatory and false end up being deleted?"

Because Clint Black contacted me and told me that he was not the Clint who was posting. I told him that I would remove the posts. The only other post I removed was a pro-Burchett remark that made a derogatory remark about someone's Momma. We don't do that.
I have removed no pro-Craig posts.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Of course, you are assuming that "Ed" was Ed Burchett. I have no idea who "Ed" is.

    ReplyDelete
  155. It was Burchett because I was the one he messaged on youtube prior to me posting here. I just wondered what had happened. I don't blame Mr. Black for being upset. I told Ed repeatedly that I was not him but he insisted he had done some kind of research that led him back to Mr. Black, all of which was totally made up.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I think that Burchett having various law firms speaking out on his behalf is very telling. Everyone that watches his rulings knows that there are certain attorneys to which he shows great favoritism. Often, his cases that are overturned are the result of him finding in favor of his little group of friends despite what the rule of law would dictate.

    ReplyDelete
  157. If my sources close to the Burchett campaign are correct then there was a major discovery uncovered by them. It appears that Mike Craig was involved in another DUI this year back in February. According to my sources there is video evidence and a sworn affidavit of a Shreveport police officer soon to be made public. It is also my understanding that it was covered up pretty well but they were still able to get the video and a copy of the DUI log book. "Not sure what the log book is though." According to the sources and the affidavit, Schuyler Marvin is mentioned as the one who made some phone calls on Mike Craigs behalf to insure the paper work did not go through. So if this is true it will be real interesting to see what Schuyler has to say about this. Better lace up your boots folks things are about to get real interesting!!!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Anonymous....just which attorneys would that be???Please name just one thats contributed. And if you can, we will then cross reference it with with the cases in which he has been overturned. What everyone will see is that this post is BS. He wont be able to provide the info. Keep making rediculous accusations, and I'll keep shooting them full of holes.

    ReplyDelete
  159. It appears that most posters don't want people to know their identity. If it is posted by anonymous, is it really true?

    ReplyDelete
  163. I love this country. This is exactly how our system was meant to work. A guy like Burchett thinks he can do whatever he wants, but it finally catches up with him. The strong movement against him was due to his extremely condescending attitude and lack of concern for the effects of his off the wall rulings. GOODBYE BURCHETT!! DON'T LET THE DOORKNOB HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT.
