Do they Hate Obama?

Just as the Jeremiah Wright issue is quieting down for Barack Obama, Father Michael Pfleger steps into the pulpit to deliver the coup de gras. Obama's ex-pastor made some inflammatory statements that offended a lot of people.
Although his political foes tried to make the most of it, it didn't seem to do major damage to Obama. The Obama campaign realizes that they have a problem with white blue-collar voters, a traditional Democratic constituency and are attempting to address it.
Along comes Roman Catholic Father Pfleger as a guest speaker at Trinity United Church of Christ and delivers a huge gift to the Republican Party. You would assume that Father Pfleger is not a stupid man, and he claims to be an Obama supporter. He cannot be unaware that we live in a YouTube society and that his remarks would be sensationalized. He cannot be unaware that his remarks will be used against Obama. Perhaps he just wants his 15 minutes of fame.
As the old saying goes, with friends like these, you certainly don't need enemies.
UPDATE: Bayou Buzz has an article on this in which they point out that Fr. Pfleger was on Obama's Spiritual Advisory committee.

  1. Jesus Fucking Christ! Did you ever see anyone pandering more to a Black audience in your life? He did everything but crab his crotch and start screaming about “motherfuckers”! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…these Catholic priests ought to get laid once in a while or at least jack off. Being celebate causes you to just go freaking nuts!

  2. Harvey, I believe that he is wrong on so many levels. First of all, he is indeed trying to 'sound black'. I believe that is very degrading and condescending, whether intended or not.
Mocking Hillary Clinton with the fake crying just proves her point about sexism (which I haven't believed until I saw this).
This will do damage to Obama because he said that this church, which he attended for 20 years 'forged him'. I really had no problem with Jeremiah Wright, whether I agreed with him or not.
This guy is another story - he is bonkers, nuts, crazy. The 527 'swift boaters' will have a field day with this.
    What were they thinking?

  3. Jim, I could not find the article about Pfleger being Obama's spiritual advisr at Bayou Buzz.

Not having read that, it seems unfair to blame Obama for a guest preacher in his former church. However, that doesn't mean it won't be done.

For what it's worth, not a few folks in my territory are still calling Obama a Muslim. The whole Wright/Trinity controversy has passed them by.

  4. Mimi, I couldn't find the Bayou Buzz article either, I don't know why I didn't hyperlink the article itself.
I have researced enough to find out that Obama and Pfleger have known each other since 1985. Pfleger is also close to Louis Farrakhan and has had him speak at his church. That is not a good thing.
I agree that it is unfair to blame Obama for what a speaker at his church said, even a friend. By the time the 'swiftboaters', the 527's get on this it will be nasty.
The part I don't understand is, why, knowing what happened to Rev. Wright, did Fr. Pfleger come out with that speech last week. Surely he had to know the damage he would do, he is not a stupid man. I really question his motivation - did he just want some of that limelight?
This will really hurt Obama, more than a lot of people realize.
    Okay, I'm through!

  5. Jim, I agree. Pfleger is a buffoon and an embarrassment. There's nothing more pathetic than white folks who try to act black. I can't imagine what he was thinking, either, if he supports Obama. I really hate the Democrats bashing each other.
