Jane Smith appointed Deputy Director of Revenue for State

The Times is reporting that Jane Smith has been appointed to a job in the Jindal Administration.
Jane Smith, a Republican whose term as the District 8 member of the state House of Representatives ends Monday, is taking an appointment as deputy secretary of the Louisiana Revenue Department, it was announced today.
Smith will help Revenue Secretary Cynthia Bridges with administrative and legislative affairs, the department says.
I take this to mean that among other things, Mrs. Smith will be a de facto lobbyist for the Department.  She should be very effective, as she knows the legislature inside-out.
Smith was endorsed by the governor and the State Republican Party when she ran for State Senate last fall and lost to Barrow Peacock.

  1. A way of keeping friends on the payroll by our governor. Another example of wasting taxpayers money.

  2. i knew they would pull out a golden parachute for her...the state instead of the parish this time...louisiana will NEVER stand a chance...

  3. Come on now. Anyone out there really shocked? That's what they do.

  4. I say good! Does this mean she is out of the running for mayor!

  5. I hope so, but I bet this is just a way for her to stay in the political scene. I'm sure she is still going to run unless she thinks Mayor Is beneath her talents.

  6. This is no different than the Bossier Parish Police Jury making a position for Billy Montgomery.

  7. I'm not sure what she will lobby for on behalf of the Department of Revenue unless it is how to collect more taxes. I'm just glad that Jindal recognized her talents and hired her before some Fortune 500 company grabbed her.

  8. Jane has been a huge supporter of Bossier and it can/will only benefit Bossier if she stays connected within the Jindal Administration.

  9. The governor's appointment of Jane Smith smacks of cronyism, especially in view of the fact that the former is slashing so many areas of government at the same time that he is growing his own bureaucracy. Gov. Piyush Jindal's act is a thinly veiled hyprocrisy, and people are not comfortable with it. Is this an example of his ethics mantra?

  10. @1:33 AM - For more employees, more budget etc. All the departments in state government do it.

  11. You folks are so cynical! I have to agree with anon @ 9:19 AM - this will undoubtedly help Bossier. But so many folks on here think anyone that chooses public service is somehow evil. Shame on you all.

(unleash the evil comments towards me in 3...2...)

  12. Clint,
Benefiting Bossier over other parts of the state is the friggin' point. That's the whole damned problem in this country: Pork.
The money that is being sucked away from people in other parishes to benefit Bossier only is as wrong as money being sucked away from Bossier to benefit other parishes.
It's easier to spend money when it's not yours, and it has to stop.

  13. I agree with 2:55. When she school board superintendent, she spent every dime they had and basically left them bankrupt. She has done the same thing as a state representative. The problem with that is when you need money there is none so what happens is your taxes get raised. I too feel like it's time to stop all the frivolous spending these politicians do regardless who benefits from it. We the citizens will benefit the most if they would just stop. I bet Jane Smith or any other local politician would spend their own money the way they spend the taxpayers'. If they did the would in debt up the their noses. We as citizens should demand better. Understand Clint?

  14. It's no different than me going next door to my neighbor for money so he could "buy" me a really nice gift.

  15. I don't trust Jane Smith. My opinion is that she works mostly to aggrandize herself. It's easy to see. The night after she lost the election to Mr.Peacock, she vowed to continue public office in some other way. (No doubt waiting for Lorenz Walker to give her the green light to run for Mayor) She doesn't work to help the people she works to help herself; end of story.

  16. In the words of Gomer Pyle - "surprise, surprise, surprise." All Jane has ever done is drink from the government trough. I bet her former staff has some "position" with some government agency as well.

  17. With all her knowledge and qualifications, you would think some private company would offer her a job with a very lucrative paycheck but then she wouldn't be able to rape pillage and steal from the taxpayers.
A.J. You are right she is completely self-absorbed. As far as trusting her, Tim Larkin trusted her and you saw how quickly she threw him under the bus over the 3132 incident.

  18. If she runs for mayor which I don't think she will do, but if my choice is Lo Walker or Jane Smith, I'm afraid I will vote for Jane Smith. I won't be proud of myself but Bossier can't handle anymore Lo. I will vote then need a shower b/c of how dirty I will feel but what choice do we have? I haven't heard anymore names.

  19. Elect Jane. Maybe we can get some more $100k concession stands and leaking roofs built by her buddies

  20. A.J., For once I agree with what you've said.
Ever since I've become aware of Jane Smith I've realized she's an attention hound. She's never met a camera she's never like (although cameras haven't been kind to her.)
It's sad that self-important people have this idea the public needs them. What they don't realize is if you put your hand in a pile of horse dung you come out with more horse dung. They're nothing special.

  21. I'd like to know which employment agency Jane and Liz Swaine used in getting their jobs. Didn't know they were available until they were hired.

  22. It was either Hire-A-Bud or the Inside Connection Employment Agency.

  27. Jane Smith, like Adley a do nothing politician, has always fed off the govt. trough. She couldn't get and maintain a job in the private sector if her life depended on it. She got 52% of the vote in Bossier Parish against a guy who probably has never been to Bossier. She, like Adley, win elections by bullying and being vindictive against those that don't support them. It's a damn shame Adley didn't draw an opponent; he would've suffered the same fate!!! The good news - in four years, they're both gone but at a huge expense to taxpayers of Bossier Parish. Other than enrich themselves and their bank accounts, did they really do anything for us?

  28. Jane Smith is still living here and seen around town on numerous occasions. When does she start her job in Baton Rouge? Or is this just a "position" so she can draw a check while she runs for mayor?
