Pay Raise!

Great news, I got a 34% pay raise!
Oh wait, that's not me, it's the Bossier Parish Police Jury.  From $1,200 per month to $1,600 per month.
Yep, right after election.
No, not one of them discussed this during the election cycle.  I suppose they thought if they campaigned on a pay raise for Jurors that they would not be elected/re-elected.
They were right, better to do it on the DL.
Wow.

  1. I don't mind the pay raise, it's the percentage they're raising it to that angers me.

  2. Don't blame the BPPJ members! Blame yourself the voting public. The BPPJ members/schoolboard members/rest of elected officials know that most people in Bossier Parish won't protest anything that happens and won't hold the elected folks accountable. That's why we are last on the good lists and first on the bad lists. I am a native Lousianian, independant voter and am fed up. If we keep electing the same ole ones then we will keep getting the same on bad results. Reap what you have sown!

  3. When was the last pay raise and for how much?

  4. Jim - One member stated that this was only $9 an hour. Do they work 41.02 hours a week?

  5. I think it's hilarious. I wish they would have voted themselves a bigger pay raise. Several people should tried to warn voter but they were told to move to Shreveport. Also if you noticed the votes, the incumbents voted against it and the new ones voted for it. I'm pretty sure it was planned that way. Bossier city council will do that from time to time on controversial issues. They will figure out who has the least amount to lose and those 4 will vote for something while the other 3 vote against. I bet the ones who voted against the pay raise won't donate their portion to charity or something. They will accept it. It was all planned. Trust me.

  6. I went into my boss's office today and told him I voted myself a 34% pay raised. He laughed. Anyone hiring out there? Let me know. I could sure use a job.

  7. They went from 800.00 to 1200.00 12 years ago because 1200.00 was the maximum a juror could make. Now the max is 1600.00 per month and thats's what the raise was. Jimmy Cochran pushed for this raise. The new jurors aren't even sworn in yet so they didnt vote. This was all the old jurors. The bad thing is, it takes effect immediately. That law needs to be changed that you can't vote yourself a raise.

  8. I agree that no one should be allowed to vote themselves a pay raise but I am not sure how to fix this problem. An election to approve a raise would cost a lot of money. Also, some oversight is needed when creating a new position. Remember the PR person for the school board. It sure is easy to spent other people's money.

  9. Ask the Bossier Police, Bossier Fire, and City of Bossier when the employees received a pay raise? As a matter of fact, they have lost personnel and salary increases, as well as having specialized pay withdrawn.

I am very very very disappointed in Jimmy Cochran...I thought you were better than that!

Now then, any board member can refuse the raise and salary in whole! Let's see if any do that? I'm sure Mac Plummer needed the raise, to support his beverage habit!

But what do you expect? The board attorney is Jimmy Hall's partner, and buddy.

As usual in Bossier no one will stand up and say anything! I'm just a poor ole civil servant but I vote!

  10. If you don't like it move to Shreveport, because it looks like Shreveport is at least trying to get it together. I don't know what the hell Bossier is trying to do. Whatever it is it's shameful.

  11. 5:15,
Thanks for the information. So it was the lame ducks that voted for the pay raise while the re-elected ones voted against it. I still stick by my theory that it was all planned. Lame ducks have nothing to lose. It all makes even more sense now.

  12. Oh, kwitcherbitching, Bossier Parish is one of the wealthiest places in the world, and our officials should be the best paid in the world. Go to Shreveport and give your money to the criminals if you don't like it here. We have the best roads, the best sheriff's department, the best library system, the best school system, the best water systems, and soon the best sewer systems that can be found anywhere. This is just the most idyllic place imaginable to live, and you people are worried about those who help us maintain this way of life earning enough to make it worth their while. We are going to need some tax increases to make the schools and other services even better, but just look at our prosperity. Look at our great casinos and the Boardwalk. We don't have anything to complain about in Bossier Parish, and it is just a shame that there is a limit so we could not pay the policy jurors even more money.

  13. Yea, but they ony meet 2 times a month. $800.00 per meeting for about 3 hours is pretty good.

  14. How about the school board and the pay raises they voted for. Most of these people are card carrying CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS who are supposed to believe in limited government yet they vote opposite what they campaign on. To those of you who are reading this go ahead and accept that you are on the same team as OBAMA but at least he doesnt try to hide who he is.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You just have to understand, 8:59, that limited government is for when the Democrats are in power. We don't need limited government here because we are all Republicans and we have GOOD government. You don't try to limit that which is good, Republican government, you try to limit that which is bad, Democrat government. That should be simple to understand. Bossier Parish should be the premier model community for the nation. There are so few Democrats here, that they simply have no power at all. We are a world-class Republican community and our good Republican officials here deserve to be the best paid officials in the world. We should cooperate with them with all of the tax increases that they want, and let them make a showplace out of Bossier Parish to show the rest of the world how great life can be with totalitarian Republican government.

    ReplyDelete
  16. A bunch of Republican officials looking out only for their own needs? What a shock! I always thought they were for limited government and less spending! I'm so surprised!

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's not about democrat or republicans, big or small government. It's about power. They have it and will do anything to hold on to it.
A.J, your right basically friends taking care of each other. Dems and republicans both do it. It's reall all about character.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Interesting, but the Bossier Sheriff Deputies property taxes went up, they we're denied a pay raise that they were lead to believe would happen based on the property tax increases, and to top it off they actually ended up with a 2% pay CUT instead.

Glad to see that the police jury was taken care of!

    ReplyDelete
  19. It has NOTHING to do about Democrats or Republicans.
It use to be be you couldn't find a Republican around here when the only way to get elected was to be a Democrat. Now that it's basically the other way around all the rats have become Republicans and will change back to Democrats if necessary .
What it's all about is the party of Mr. William Altimus,
the party of Mr. Brad Cummings, the party of Mr. Rick Avery, the party of Mr. Jerome Darby, the Party of Ms. Wanda Bennett, the part Mr. Wayne Hammack, the party of Mr. Glenn Benton, the party of Mr. Winfred Johnston, the party of Mr. Barry Butler, the party Mr. Hank Meachum, the party ofMr. Jimmy Cochran, the party of Mr. Mac ("hic") Plummer.
But Bossier is getting EXACTLY what it deserves for voting into office the people they do.

And 5:53, when are people like you going to come up with something other than "If you don't like it move to Shreveport." That's about as old as the stain in your underwear and about as productive. There's plenty to complain about. If you would pull your head out of the dark, moist, warm place and see that there are problems in Bossier that needs to be addressed to keep the nice thing we have. Problems like a the Cyber Innovation Center and the wanting to build an addition, the parking garage at the Board Walk, the Bossier Parish Sheriff's tax fiasco. Yep, no problems in Bossier.

  20. I'm ready to give the school board members a raise too!! I hear that is coming next as they voted to give DC a raise. It's their turn.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Of course the School Board members deserve a raise to the highest salary allowed by state law. They have done a great job, we have a great school system, and they need to raise the taxes to build the new schools that have been proposed to make it even better. And they need to go ahead and raise the taxes to not only expand the CIC, but to develop the rest of the Cyber Research Park. If we build it, they will come. And the "they" is the best and brightest in the field of cyber research. Everybody knows what a wonderful life, free of the crime that plagues the rest of the nation, we have here in Bossier Parish, and of course the best and the brightest in the country will move here if we just provide them a place to do their research. Just look at how well we have done in the gambling industry. We in Bossier Parish have taken what other people consider a "vice" and have turned it into a glorious way of life. And you petty complainers don't believe that the politicians that are able to do that don't deserve to be the best paid politicians anywhere?

  22. Anon @ 3:15:

Are you being serious or sarcastic?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Now why would you think that he or she is being sarcastic? We've got a good thing going here, and yet people are on here complaining about the leaders being paid, and complaining about paying taxes to live in a virtual paradise the same as if they were paying the taxes to live in a horrible place like Shreveport or Baton Rouge or Atlanta or Detroit.

  24. Anyone hear about the shooting in Bossier yesterday? Look like 2012 is gonna be a repeat of 2011. Pat yourselves on the back mayor and city councilmen. Let's five them raise as well. They are doing a bang up job giving the police the manpower they need to keep us all safe. I love it here. Paradise I tell you.

  25. Just an isolated incident, 7:29, and it probably involved people who don't belong in Bossier anyway. Happened at apartments by Rusheon, but if you live in a real house in any of the subdivisions in Bossier Parish, and you would just be wasting your effort to lock your doors before going to bed. We just don't have anything to worry about in Bossier Parish except all the naysayers complaining about everything. Bossier Parish just stands out from the rest of the United States like a shining city on a hill, and if we were not Americans, we should bow down to our police jury, school board, the sheriff's department, the police, the fire department, and other first responders. And certainly they should all be paid very good salaries, just look how prosperous all the rest of us are in Bossier Parish.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's funny you mention Rusheon Middle school. I bet the school board would like us to forget about that little "black eye" on their list.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They have already solved the most recent shooting in Bossier City, Thank you. Bossier City Police Officer Griffith (former Detective) found an abundance of circumstantial evidence which proves copper head did it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 11:41, FYI, Rusheon, from my understanding, is on the chopping block. The sixth graders go back to perspective elementary schools, and seventh and eighth are to go to Bossier High and housed in the Lampkin Building. Rusheon, I heard, is to be transformed into a tech school like the one they have at Louisiana Technical College on North Market.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I heard that too. But if it was performing at an acceptable level then it wouldn't be on the chopping block. What was Bossier Parish School's overall grade? C or D?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Someone can call the PR person for the school board to see if closing the school is going to happen. I have seen no statements from her yet.

  31. I see where the Bossier Parish Police Jury is wanting to buy 40 acres in south Bossier to put in a park. The property belongs to the Lucky family. It looks like the project is being pushed by Police Juror Mac Plummer. Sounds like a good idea, because the people down that way need a park. BUT, because in Bossier nothing is done just because it needs to be, I wonder what are the stipulations and who gets what when the finances are finally settled. To put it bluntly, who much will the kickbacks be and who will get them?

  33. several years have passed but someone surely got some kickback!
Lucky (Sligo Farms) “donated” 20 acres at a Bossier Parish agreed value of $1,100,000. This breaks down to $55,000 per acre when the value per acre should have been about $1647 per acre. Think of the tax write off of $1.1 million vs the $33,000 that this land should have come in at; that is a $1,067,000 Write Off!
Lucky and the Parish then worked a deal where Lucky “sold” an additional 88 acres, Lucky & Bossier Parish averaged their MAI appraisals to $80,000 per acre, equating to a whopping appraised value of $7,040,000! Keep in mind that Lucky keeps the mineral rights!
Using today’s averaged values of approximately $1647 per acre, the total land value of the 88 acres should have been about $145,000. The difference between $7,040,000 and the $145,000 is $6,895,000!
