Sheriff to hold meeting on tax millage

Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Deen will hold a meeting at 10 tomorrow morning to get feedback and answer questions about his decision to increase the property tax millage from 12.17 mills to 13.51 mills.
In recent years the sheriff has rolled back the rate, but now says it is necessary to adjust it.
From a new training facility to new substations, the sheriff has grown his department in the past few years. Some people think this is good, some bad.
Deen is very popular with Bossier voters, however, having had no opposition in the last election.
Will you be there? What do you think?

  1. this guy has got to come to grips with reality - as you know - the sheriff's personal salary is set by statute and the only way he can increase his own salary is to cut out deductions. Are the citizens aware of Larry Deen's policy to pay both the employer and EMPLOYEE's portion of all retirement, health insurance, dentail and disability. That is absurd and the reason for the budget deficit, among other things - he needs to scale back - there is no reason for this largese.

  3. There is no way Larry Deen would do something like this - he knows it is political suicide to raise taxes in this political climate - if nothing else - he is a master politician and with the most recent problems he had with the War Wagon, and the ticket and all the issues in the inquisitor - he has got to understand that this is the nail that would be needed to unseat him. Bossier Parish has more Tea Party activists than any other place in the state - he is much too politically astute to make such a stupid political move.

  4. Taxed Enough AlreadyJune 16, 2010 at 6:40 PM

We are Taxed Enough Already! Of course law enforcement is important. All sorts of things that the government does is important. But it is like Ronald Reagan always said, "The problem is not that people are taxed too little, the problem is that government spends too much money." It seems like the police and firefighters keep silent when money is being spent on schools, libraries, and cybercenters, and then threaten us with cutbacks in police and fire protection. They ought to be shouting against government money being spent on anything else if they don't have everything they need. The government can take money from the less essential projects that they waste so much on, and beef up police and fire protection, but we are Taxed Enough Already.
