Chicken and a 40 at the Shreveport Council meeting

In which Joyce Bowman gets a little upset because someone at a forum criticized her leadership of the council, and in which Joe Shyne preached a sermon and visited the 'no-spin zone' - possibly for the first time.
City Council candidate Craig B. Lee attended the council meeting yesterday and brought Bryan Wooley a box of chicken and a 40 oz. malt liquor.
It takes a few minutes, but you really should watch it.

  1. LOL... I will say something when I finish laughing!! Wow.. Congrats for Wooley.. He has the support of a convicted felon who has been pardoned! Shreveport City Councilman Joe Shyne was convicted on federal bribery charges and pardoned by La. Gov. Foster. That speaks highly for you Wooley...

  2. While I dont agree with the race cards played by everyone on this - I gotta give Lee credit. His speech was good and he looked Wooley in the eyes. Awesome.

    Ad hominem.

    *yawn*

Wooley was wise not say anything.

Shyne has endorsed Burrell by the way.

According the Shyne, he's a fan of everyone.

  4. It is a shame that not only Louisiana politics but politics on a national level always seem to be driven toward the usage of slander, discrimination, and humiliation in an effort to obtain what one believes to be the upper hand in order to win an election. It is a shame that after so many years of fighting for the equal rights of all of our citizens, so many are eager to resort to a philosophy and ideology of a horrible past. It is a shame that we are still not judged by the content of our character but by the color of our skin. It is a shame.

One day, we will have an election where race will not be the issue, and we will elect a person on the content of their character. One day, we will have an election where the party affiliation will not matter, and we will elect a person on the position for which they stand. One day, we will have an election where God will not be thrown to the wayside, and we will stand up as one people, one nation under God, and we will be able to say we did all that we could do! One day!

  6. There are many reasons for this city and our state to be embarassed because of our politicians. Edwin Edwards, most anyone who is insurance comm., Joe Shyne, and most of all Barbara Norton. Whats worse is some are reelected time and time again.

  7. Louisiana will never gain respect if the citizens and politicians continue to allow this sort of shenanigans in public meetings. Shame on the city Council for letting him speak. Shame on security for letting him bring a 40oz in the room.

It's not cool, it's a disgrace. Do you even realize you're the laughing stock of modern civil society?

  9. That was pretty good political theatre by Mr. Lee. What someone should have called him on was his repeated use of the term "parity." What is this of "parity" which you speak, Mr Lee? Parity between whom? And what has your goal got to do with city government? We almost take for granted anymore that government's job is to be a social and economic leveler -- to "achieve parity." What a crock! Mr. Lee, one cannot be for freedom AND parity. They do not co-exist!

  11. What's even more amazing is that Bryan want's to bring more good businesses to that area. Not just liquor stores and loan shark companies, because these pray on the poor.

I think this guys ploy backfired, he is ill informed. He has the same views are the black panthers "don't come in my neighborhood trying to help" I would say this speech has more to do with besmerching the african americans in shreveport than the flyer put out by a business owner in a neglected part of the city.

Bryan is not of the generation of racism. he is from a new generation of leaders that don't see color first.

Rides to the polls have been done in the past by black candidates to beat white ones. Why is it wrong for a white person to do it?

  12. It's not "wrong" for a white person to do it, but you have to be a liberal democrat. I remember hearing a story about a black woman in Shreveport who was pissed at Mary Landrieu because Mary promised $25 and a ride to the polls. The woman got her ride, but still hadn't gotten her $25.
