So Facebook is down

Have you been getting this?
Facebook has been down for a couple of hours.  I'm a junkie, I can't deal with it.
People are tweeting about it.  That's fine, but Twitter just isn't . . Facebook!
WAFB WAFB
To all our Facebook friends: Currently #Facebook.com appears to be experiencing a "likely service disruption".

  1. Jim, do you really still use Internet Explorer?

    Really?

    Seriously?

You're yankin' our chain, aren't you?

Please tell me that you are.

I am about as behind the curve as anyone you'll ever meet, and I dropped IE years ago.

There's your trouble. No, Firefox seems to be working just fine with The Facebook. Of course, it has been several hours since I looked at the comprutuh, so it may have been giving the same messages earlier.

But, do you really still use IE?

    Really?

Nothing personal here...just concerned for a good friend.

  2. Hey Andy! I've never had a problem with IE. Facebook is up now, but was down.
What's wrong with IE? How is Firefox better?

  3. Jimbo, it's one of those things that you just have to experience for yourself.

I could try to 'splain why Firefox is so way much better, but it's kinda like driving an '88 Oldsmobile Delta, and having somebody hand you the keys to a 2010 Lexus. It's one of those deals like "Okay...the Olds gets me from point A to point B, but man, I didn't know you could get there like this.

It's one of those "ya' have to try it to understand" deals. Go try it. It's free. And, easy.

And, extremely user friendly. Like I say, you just have to monkey around with it yourself. When I heard about it a couple of years ago, I was suspicical. After about twelve minutes, I wondered why it took me so long to start using it. You just have to use it yourself to really know what I'm talking about.

You can always uninstall it if you don't like it. But, while accessing the web, g-mail, Globber, etc. it is smooth. Maybe I've just gotten used to it. I haven't used IE in so long that maybe it is better than it once was. Dunno.

But, as Shirley Q. Liquor always says, "To each they own! That's what it says in the Bible."

  4. The great thing about Firefox? Add-ons.

And it's more secure than IE.

  5. Are you out of blog ideas?

  6. Now, that's cold.

Matt is right. The add-ons, plug-ins, (whatever) are easy cheesy. One of my favorites is the screengrab. There a multiple multitudes of others. Like I said, it's just something you gotta drive for yourself to really KNOW the difference in your noodle.

Ask around. Ask higher technodudes than me. Seriously, do yourself a favor and don't rely on my experience.

And, Anonymous at 5:18 obviously does not understand how important The Facebook is.

    Just sayin'...

  7. No, I'm never out of blog ideas. I have just been trying to nail a big one for the last couple of days. There's a lid on it tighter than a pressure cooker!
Matt knows what I'm talking about!

  8. Uh-huh. Dat's right!

    My favorite firefox Add-ons:

    AddThis
    DownloadHelper (d/l YouTube vids)
    FireGestures
    FaviconizeTab
    MultiRowBookmarks
    ReadItLater
    Yoono
    ScreenGrab

Firefox turns "browsing" into a virtual contact sport.

  9. Okay, you younger guys (well, Andy's is only younger compared to me) say that it's good. I've been needing to clean up the computer some. This weekend after I do that I'll give Firefox a test run. If I don't like it, it's Andy and Matt's fault.

  10. Ive been blamed by more important people than you.

  11. Jimbo, you can go ahead on and blame me all you want. I've got thick skin. I am really old, and am used to the blame...not as old as you...but old.

But, Matt is right. So, lay the full blame on him when you come back with hat in hand exclaiming how wrong you were, and how right Matt is.

Seriously, I do not know much about IE anymore. It was virtual decades ago that I used it. I think I had 56k dial-up at the time (but don't quote me), and it was the best thing going.

Ask Two Dogs (oooops...Paul Mitchell) about it. He has probably moved on to Gooble Chrome, or some newfangled thing nobody has yet heard of. But, he's the expert on all things in the distant past in comprutuh usage.

Paul will give you the skinny. Don't worry about bothering him with qwertschuns. He lives to answer folks...he is independently wealthy, and his goal in life is to instruct folks as to how to make their virtual lives mo' better.

By the way...Are you out of blog ideas? Nyuk...

  12. I know how important facebook is. I am addicted to it but I really look forward to your good blogs. I can't wait for the one in the works.

  13. For years, Firefox was my main browser. It got bloated and slow. I tried IE again and it is much better now, but still irritating.

Chrome is my default browser, but there are a significant number of websites that Chrome doesn't render correctly. It has more difficulties with Java and Flash than IE.

But it's fast and I like that. I'll take a fast car over one with optional convenience every day of the week.
