So I read The Inquisitor this morning

Two or three thoughts on what is in The Inquisitor this morning.
First of all, I thought that the article on Sherb Sentell fairly represented what happened and what has been said so far.
I thought a comment by Minden Attorney Eric Johnson, who volunteered his and Ron Miciotto's services to represent Sentell, was bizarre and out of line.
After saying that "Officer Wells seems to have a very vivid imagination, Johnson said that "Sherb was pretty lucky in one respect". When asked "How is that", he laughed and said "Since Sherb was unarmed, he could have been shot four times in the lobby of the Horseshoe by the Bossier City officer." Apparently he was jokingly referring to the fatal shooting of Scott Gray last week. I believe that Mr. Johnson is the one who has a very vivid imagination, and I thought his statement was despicable.
In the case of that shooting, The Inquisitor is reporting that Schuyler Marvin will probably send the case to a grand jury for review.
There is also an interesting article by local attorney John Settle, Jr. You'll have to buy The Inquisitor to read that one - better hurry, I'll bet they are going to go fast today.

  1. Eric Johnson is a scumbag. He should know all about bad behavior with women, including the ones he's stalked and his disgusting talk about them!

He should recognize no one cares about HIS opinion.

  2. Regardless of how you feel about the BCPD comments like this are uncalled for. Citizens should be outraged.

  3. Wow, its like the mother of all cover-ups. Marvin actually suggested that Sentell when pushing his wife against the poll was trying to kiss her, and that is not against the law. SERIOUSLY??? Does this guy have any clue? How are we supposed to trust the DA's office with statements like these, when the evidence is crystal clear? If he says evidence is not there when it clearly is, does it mean he will claim evidence is there when there isn't any? is there any difference?

it sure is funny to me that marvin claims there was no public intimidation, however the actual allegations have ultimately manifested themselves with the firing and adm leave.

johnson's statement was pretty bold and perhaps imaginative if in fact he knows nothing to the contrary, but the evidence from witnesses contradict the officers. So my question is if that was the case, why weren't they fired?(or placed on leave)
Also remember that marvin stated in the times the shooting was either justifiable manslaughter or murder-that is a heck of a statement to make "murder"

  4. Glad he can find humor in police shootings.

  5. Yeah, Eric Johnson is a scumbag! But if I were facing any charges, I would hire Eric Johnson to represent me. He gets his clients off. Of course, and charges against me would be trumped-up, false charges.

Aren't they all, Realist? Good comment.

  9. I agree...shame on Johnson for making such a dispicable statement. I really hope Marvin doesn't think the voters of this parish are stupid enough to believe this "spin". I will certainly remember this and his office come election time. And, I will make sure the rest of the parish does also. Count on it.

  10. if the officers were fired, trust me, there was a reason. that reason appears to be that they lied in their police report. i dont think the cops should put something in the report that is simply made up.

  11. Or, it could be that Halphen so desperately wants Marvins endorsement in his quest for the Bossier sheriff's seat, that he's willing to discredit his own officers in order to get it. I think it's funny that they released the Horseshoe video ( that they had no control over) but haven't released the in car video under the guise of internal investigation. The officer fired was a reserve officer with no civil service protection. He and the officer transporting didn't know Sentell from Adam. Hell, the reserve officer volunteers and doesn't even get paid! I can't imagine what kind of "vendetta" Johnson could make up about him. This stinks, no matter how you spin it. Sure hope the Feds are watching. This is some corrupt stuff going on!

  12. Cops make up things and put them in their reports all the time. If there are multiple officers involved and there are major differences in their reports, somebody HAS to by lying, don't they?

It's sad when you can't offer up proof of their lies for fear of repercussions... and it looks like those fears are warranted.

Feds watching? Maybe. Maybe we should make sure they are. Mostly, we need to make sure the citizens are. WE are the true power in this country. Sometimes we just have to be reminded...

Haven't seen a bit of proof yet, they won't release the in-car video.

  14. Public officials should not call people, especially public servants liars until it is proven. It show a lack of character. Now that they have said this they "MUST" produce the evidence that proves it or then that makes them the liars and they need to be taken to task for that. I kinda think a public smear campaign against officers before any hearing has taken place makes them look like they don't have the evidence to back them up and maybe have a eeak case. I haven't seen the wife's side of the story. The way they have handled it makes their credibilty questionable. Jim, forgive me, the facts have not gone before a jury or anything like that and so for me there are some missing peices , so I will withhold judging who was right or wrong and pray for your family. But right now I am leaning in yalls direction just on the basis of how this is being handled. Sorry for the rambling.

  15. Darrell, thanks for your comment and for your prayers. The truth usually outs, and I feel that it will in this case. I think the DA would have better served his office and the people had he immediately recused himself and turned the investigation over to the Attorney General, even though legally he is not compelled to.

  16. Marvin immediately said that he would recuse himself, but he lied. He has gone about trying to clear Sentell by trying to smear the officers.

  17. Actually, the da, johnson, and lawler have made things worse for sherb....the one sherb owes a debt of gratitude to and so does his wife is the young officer who got fired...sherb has many fine qualities and those remain....his achilles heal is that he cannot see what a service this officer did for him...sherb was out of control and out of character...too much alcohlol can do that/////the man who got fired saw a beautiful lady in distress and he tried to help her....now Mrs. Sentell should be grateful for that....too much spin is taken on this when it is all too simple...in my humble opinion

  18. I have read almost every blog that has gone out and have to say that this whole thing is blowing my mind away. How can anyone who watched the news and have seen the video of this idiot grabbing his wife and yes physically abusing her by doing so in that manner, even have the nerve to post something about its human nature and it was no big deal. What happened to good old fasion standards and christian values that taught us to respect our wifes and to charish them and to PROTECT them from harm......not to HARM them and totally disrespect them. I am truely sorry for the families of the officers that have been either fired or put on leave for doing there job and hope they turn around and sue who ever they can for this. I hate the fact that there are lawyers out there every day looking to sue someone but in this case it is warranted in my eyes. This is truely showing the true colors of Bossier and I say that with deep regret....but its true!

  19. Thank you Don B. My sentiments exactly on the Christian values and the way we should treat our wives.

  20. In the apologia for Sentell and Marvin which she posted on nwlanews.com, Jana Ryan noted that "no slapping, hitting, punching, or extreme violence" is seen on the video. Well I don't know what Ms. Ryan will tolerate, but my wife would never have tolerated the treatment that Mrs. Sentell endured on that video. And I would hope that the police got me locked up before my father-in-law learned about it, if I were to ever push his daughter against a wall and yell into her face.

  21. What a pathetic excuse we have as a DA!!! He's doon after this term. Of corse we only need one third to recall.

  22. The public has not heard from Sentell since he sobered...he has never experienced being arrested before ....so give him some time...I think he will do the right thing .....by making a public apology first to his wife and then to the officers....he can come out smelling like a rose if he does this...people forgive easier when a public official admits their errors....what the public doesnt like and can see through is a coverup...this only makes matters worse....
